What a strange experience as a non-Christian... I found this studio on Groupon and didn't do full…read moreresearch on it beforehand so that part is on me, but starting a class with a prayer and ending with gospel music stretching was.... quite an experience as a non-religious person with a Jewish upbringing! What a time. I did see after the fact that their website mentions this practice, but it doesn't exactly make it welcoming to non-religious customers. The adult tap class I tried was challenging in new ways and definitely more focused on classical tap with a hint of Irish dancing, which isn't my favorite but I know that is studio dependent. The teacher was knowledgeable but didn't really explain steps fully to the whole class, and the woman next to me was asking me questions throughout about how to break down a movement when the teacher herself kept messing it up, even though I was brand new. They have tape on the floor to mark distance but the teacher stated she didn't know how to maintain distance yet during class and many of the students were right next to one another. Only I and one other student wore a mask in a class of 8-10 people. My biggest disappointment was the lack of acknowledgement and following of the mask mandate. Aside from a couple of people I saw inside and plexiglass at the front desk, it was like entering a pre-COVID world. Staff and customers alike did not wear masks, and yet there were crowds of kids moving about the studio and adults all very close to one another, maskless and without distancing. They had only 1 sign on the front door asking people to distance. Religion will not protect you from a pandemic or a state mandate.

The staff is very welcoming and professional, and the facility is clean and beautiful. They even have special air filtration systems in place for the safety of their students! They go above any beyond with even having someone man the door so that we don't have to open or close it while coming in and leaving! (At least on the day we are there they do.) The foyer is never packed because they clearly communicate with their families as to how to drop off and pick up their kiddos. I am so thankful my children can have some normality during what's been a mentally challenging time. Not only children, but parents too, need to have outlets of community and lighthouse is a safe place for it. My children get excited for dance days, and I do too. Thank you Lighthouse Dance for offering a safe, professional, and encouraging place in Loveland.

However, the studio owner and office operations are an absolute mess. There is barely any communication from the office, class times are often not updated or accurate on the website, holiday closures are not clearly communicated (or communicated at all before the closure), and the end of year show and costume process are equally disorganized. Having been to more than 5 other dance studios throughout my life in different states and worked for years as an office assistant at a very large studio, it's clear to me that the logistics here are the worst of anywhere I've attended. There is no flexibility to change class times year to year - a huge frustration especially for adult classes, as we got stuck on Sunday mornings with no alternative option in the evening, because the owner refuses to move any kid class times. If your main teacher is out, good luck getting a substitute - as adults we were often left to ourselves if the teacher was out, which was often. After one summer break, I started getting auto-billed for monthly classes without having attending any classes, signed any agreement for them to continue using my credit card information, or communicated with me at all. It was resolved after I complained, but that it happened at all is extremely concerning. The studio is small and "cozy," but lots of mismatched decor. The classes are affordable, but I've found another studio in Loveland to offer similar quality classes with incredible organization and communication.

But I didn't have the opportunity to pursue that dream.) As an adult, most options were barred by my work schedule, the price-tag, or prerequisite experience. There were a few exceptions--times when I've slipped into ballet shoes and into an adult dance class. But, despite my desire to learn, I'd fall behind, feeling like an outsider in a club for the more experienced. Thankfully, since moving to Loveland last year, I noticed SlapStep Studio online. The location (near King Soopers on E 29th St), and the price-tag ($25 two week trial), made it convenient to try. I jumped into 4 classes the first week, and returned to two classes the second week. I found all the instructors to be helpful and insightful, reminding me of some of my favorite yoga instructors, as they highlight muscles used for each move. Bonnie's Lyrical dance on Thursdays is emotive, and unites the entire body for poetic, fluid motions. In Vixen or other classes, Marlene's dance expertise and care is evident in her smile and elegant display of each glide and gesture. You don't need to have prior experience to join beginner classes, and instructors and fellow students are encouraging and positive. Marlene's classes especially draw dancers from a span of ages--from twenty-something to retired. In every class, including Flora's Pound Fit on Friday, there were ecstatic moments where all levels and ages danced together harmoniously. Thanks for making dance classes for grown ups of all levels, and for the introductory offer of $25 for two weeks. (Also, I should be able to afford the $55 for 4 classes a month, but I'm searching for a job right now.) Hope this studio and its students are around for a long time!

The classes that I tried with their 2-week unlimited class deal were fun, very well taught, and in a clean, bright, spacious studio with a beautiful sprung wood dance floor. Everything was very professional, yet personalized, so that I have been really excited to go back and try more classes! Marlene's Vixen class really got my heart pumping, yet was slow enough for me to learn the dance steps, easily, and it was jazzy! Flora's PoundFit class with the drum sticks is unique, and a great workout, followed by revitalizing relaxation techniques! I am so happy to find this wonderful, new dance studio! It's a great way to have fun while getting fit! There is plenty of parking in the Orchard Shopping Center, too!

Waiting for a serious surgery I was looking for a community that could inspire me to hold faith for a better life. Kate welcomed me into the community with open arms and gave me the option of trading services for classes because I was unable to work and had little income at the time. I started by attending yin yoga classes and being a spectator at aerial events... Watching what others were able to achieve gave me the strength and support I needed to mentally and physically make it through a very trying time until I was able to have the surgery I'd been waiting for. After surgery I went back to classes and worked my way back to fully enjoy my body and life again. Attending classes, events and volunteering at Live Beyond Limit as well as my relationship with Kate took me in one year from not being able to see my self worth or recognize much reason for continuing my then difficult life to fully embracing and embodying the wonderfu, dynamic and successful person that I am and have always been. There are few words that can express my profound gratitude for this studio, the peace, joy, acceptance and love that is freely given by the teachers, performers, students, Kate and the community she facilitates. She held onto it for me because I didn't have anywhere to put it since I was sleeping out of my car at the time. She said someone bought it, but she never paid me for it, so who knows what happened. A few years ago, I would regularly go to classes and it was enjoyable. There were a couple experiences where it gave me a uncomfortable feeling about her. We did a hiking session together. Nobody showed up but me, so she and I went. I thought it was nice, but noticed that when she wanted to take a picture with me, it was just for her socials so her image would look good. Then not too long after that, there was a art event at the studio which I paid and went to. I figured it was just an art show but there was more to it. At the time, I struggled a lot more when it came to crowds. I wanted to get out of my comfort zone, have fun, and to see what it was all about. I brought my sketch book to draw and I also joined in the audience to watch the aerial show (I think it was) even though I thought it was an art show. I got intense anxiety and overwhelm (probably from the energy from being in a crowd or certain people), so I left and cried in the car. I had texted Kate and told her what happened, but she didn't care. Kept my money too. Was only there for 15 or 20 minutes. So overall, these experiences showed me how greedy and fake she was. I start going back in November because I'm getting back into shape and I wanted to try the aerial classes again, but I can't afford very much, so I go with the 5 class plan for $59. My mom is the one that even helped me and I told her that. I completed the classes (except for one which I was not feeling that day, but I already showed up, so no sense in trying to get another class). I was not planning on going again (a couple of people including an instructor found that out by asking me questions) because I wanted to continue at a gym since my main focus ended up being working out/exercising. The gym is what is beneficial for me. I felt aerial yoga wasn't. Besides this reason, I didn't feel fully welcome and the instructors were not patient (my coordination is poor) except for one, but I forgot her name, I'm sorry. I came to find this past Tuesday night that my account was charged by the studio and my account was at 97 cents. I texted Kate personally. You can see the whole conversation plus more in the screenshot photos for yourselves. Which includes her trying to offer a partial refund through Venmo which is outside of her business. If she can offer that, then she could've just given me my refund. Acted fake by throwing in "we've enjoyed having you here" to again be careful as a business owner and her reputation. I emailed her because I kept checking my account on the studio website, since it kept saying my plan wasn't canceled yet and it had already been a whole day. So I told her to close my account and to refund me, or I'm going to report her and THEN she finally decided to cancel it. She also told me she would refund my original payment, but she only did a partial refund of $38 out of $59. She lied and is clearly greedy. Making it into a whole complex mess, when it couldve just been played out smoothly. She blocked me after I told her to not respond back to my text or she did after my email, I'm not sure, but I'll be spreading all this information around everywhere. I made a post about it on my Facebook and someone mentioned that they've heard of this situation happening a lot at this studio and what happened to one of their clients, so that didn't surprise me.

Neither of us had ever done any latin dancing, but we had a blast and spent the summer going to latin dancing social gathering and events, it was so much fun! Fast forward a few years to when we were planning a wedding. We wanted to reminisce with Maya learn some steps for our first dance. She was amazing and took the time out of her busy schedule to meet with us and help us choreograph a beautiful first dance to Dancing with a Smile by Bruno Mars & Lady Gaga. Not salsa or bachata in the slightest, but that's just a testament to how great of a teacher Maya is. Highly recommend and would love to go back again and again!
