I found this studio on Groupon and didn't do full…read moreresearch on it beforehand so that part is on me, but starting a class with a prayer and ending with gospel music stretching was.... quite an experience as a non-religious person with a Jewish upbringing! What a time. I did see after the fact that their website mentions this practice, but it doesn't exactly make it welcoming to non-religious customers. The adult tap class I tried was challenging in new ways and definitely more focused on classical tap with a hint of Irish dancing, which isn't my favorite but I know that is studio dependent. The teacher was knowledgeable but didn't really explain steps fully to the whole class, and the woman next to me was asking me questions throughout about how to break down a movement when the teacher herself kept messing it up, even though I was brand new. They have tape on the floor to mark distance but the teacher stated she didn't know how to maintain distance yet during class and many of the students were right next to one another. Only I and one other student wore a mask in a class of 8-10 people. My biggest disappointment was the lack of acknowledgement and following of the mask mandate. Aside from a couple of people I saw inside and plexiglass at the front desk, it was like entering a pre-COVID world. Staff and customers alike did not wear masks, and yet there were crowds of kids moving about the studio and adults all very close to one another, maskless and without distancing. They had only 1 sign on the front door asking people to distance. Religion will not protect you from a pandemic or a state mandate.

The staff is very welcoming and professional, and the facility is clean and beautiful. They even have special air filtration systems in place for the safety of their students! They go above any beyond with even having someone man the door so that we don't have to open or close it while coming in and leaving! (At least on the day we are there they do.) The foyer is never packed because they clearly communicate with their families as to how to drop off and pick up their kiddos. I am so thankful my children can have some normality during what's been a mentally challenging time. Not only children, but parents too, need to have outlets of community and lighthouse is a safe place for it. My children get excited for dance days, and I do too. Thank you Lighthouse Dance for offering a safe, professional, and encouraging place in Loveland.

However, the studio owner and office operations are an absolute mess. There is barely any communication from the office, class times are often not updated or accurate on the website, holiday closures are not clearly communicated (or communicated at all before the closure), and the end of year show and costume process are equally disorganized. Having been to more than 5 other dance studios throughout my life in different states and worked for years as an office assistant at a very large studio, it's clear to me that the logistics here are the worst of anywhere I've attended. There is no flexibility to change class times year to year - a huge frustration especially for adult classes, as we got stuck on Sunday mornings with no alternative option in the evening, because the owner refuses to move any kid class times. If your main teacher is out, good luck getting a substitute - as adults we were often left to ourselves if the teacher was out, which was often. After one summer break, I started getting auto-billed for monthly classes without having attending any classes, signed any agreement for them to continue using my credit card information, or communicated with me at all. It was resolved after I complained, but that it happened at all is extremely concerning. The studio is small and "cozy," but lots of mismatched decor. The classes are affordable, but I've found another studio in Loveland to offer similar quality classes with incredible organization and communication.

When it's time to vote for best CF gym in Foco, they will hound you about it. They will call you out in class to make sure you have voted. One time I had 2 lacrosse balls that were taped together to roll out my back. The owner was walking by and had a single lacrosse ball. I asked him if I could toss mine and trade him. He asked me "why did you move the ball like that?" mimicking a blow job motion with his hands. I was nervous to ask questions in front of the class because the owner will make fun of you, or in his words it's just "bantering". I asked if there was a way to modify an exercise so it didn't hurt my back. His reaction made me feel stupid and ashamed. His response "well then don't hurt your back". The whole class laughed and then was like "ya Rindi don't mess up". He never helped me. Another member was called "bitch" multiple times by one of the coaches. The words pussy, dick, balls, bitch are used many times by some coaches and one of the owners. I did personal training with him. You never knew what kind of mood you were gonna get with him. I shared with him pictures from one of the gym gatherings and he thought it would be funny to delete me out of the picture. He also did this to a different member of the gym. He laughed about it and showed everyone. He would make racists jokes and try to get others to also laugh along. He always had to win at conversations and would legit argue with you that you're wrong and look it up, even if the facts showed he was wrong. One time I was up late with our sick kiddo and had a 7:30am session and said how tired I was, to which he made a snarky remark that these are the consequences to my actions of choosing to have a child. I can recall multiple others who also had bad experiences. Young girls and high school teams workout at this gym. You would get scolded at if you put equipment back in the wrong place or made a mess. He threatened multiple times to take away the chalk buckets. One day I asked if I could open up the door for some air as we were all over heating. The coach told me how he is going to get yelled at by the owner. There are no windows or working fans. The owner would always complain to everyone about the high electric bill. Even when the owner wasn't physically there, people would comment how he is probably still watching us on the cameras in the gym. He would tell me how he doesn't even like CF for multiple reasons. I confronted the owner about how I was feeling. The owner was giving me a hard time saying how I was in such a bad mood. I told him that he makes me feel uncomfortable and unsupported in the gym. He got defensive at first and then asked me to step outside to talk. I felt threatened and said I would prefer to stay in the gym to talk. He stood outside and kept telling me to come outside to talk. I stayed where I felt safe inside the gym with others present. He took it very well in the moment. At one point he was in tears apologizing. He said he values us at the gym and he loves my son. He said he will do better. He said that the only reason he banters with me and gives me such a hard time is because he likes me and I'm in his bubble. The conversation left on good terms. A couple days later I get an email saying I've been suspended indefinitely with working with him for personal training to protect himself and the coaches. He said to not directly contact him again. I requested a refund for my membership. I paid for a year in advance. I got a discounted rate since I paid for a year in advance and so I told him he can just refund me back at the non-discounted rate. He said a members decision not to utilize the membership does not constitute grounds for a refund. I'm choosing not to go because I was consistently harassed. This gym has left me burnt out, anxious, gaslit and over $800 short.

I attended an after hours event at CrossFit 970 this Friday. It's over an hour away from where I…read morelive, so not convenient for a workout location (or for anything other than special events). It's fairly easy to get to, not too far from 25. As I was there for a special event, parking in the lot was not possible. They had someone out front directing us to an overflow parking area. Walking in I was impressed how comfortable the area was. A front desk and general waiting area, that led right into the main workout area. There was seating set up to accommodate a large crowd. They definitely made good use of the space. Not doing CrossFit myself, I wasn't familiar with all of the setup. On the left side of the room (when you walk in) they had lots of metal structures for pull ups and chin ups, and also had a lot of hanging pull up handles too. Looking around the room I saw ropes hanging from the ceiling, and lots of weights, ropes, and other equipment. It wasn't until I went to leave I saw all the weight equipment in the back corner. Everything looked in good working order (if not a bit intimidating ).
