We have been loyal Alaska flyers for 20 years. My wife and I booked a flight to Cancun in 2019 with Delta and you changed our minds. Better planes and better service made the decision easy. We have been flying Delta since. HOWEVER, this trip to San Diego was frustrating. We booked our whole family for a quick trip and brought our youngest grandchild with us. We booked our first class tickets with seats aligned so we could help our daughter travel with her baby for the first time. The cool part was how flexible your customers were.  The downside was ALL 4 of our flights had changed our seat arrangements! Why this happened is beyond me but we thought you should know.  Kevin and Sherrie Ferguson  Show quoted text

This particular pilot actually stood in front of the passengers and started the trip off with an introduction of himself and his crew. Then followed up with informing us on how he anticipated the flight would go, which he had anticipated rougher winds than normal apparently. He then ended with an estimated time of arrival to our destination. As for the flight, it was actually a very smooth flight. Upon landing & docking, the pilot asked the flight attendant to escort our five-year-old son to the cockpit if he'd like to go see them, which he did. The pilot was beyond accommodating and aware of not only his primary job, flying the plane and getting the passengers safely to their destination, but aware that flying is not an everyday occurrence for people. He made this particular trip extremely memorable and very enjoyable. Our son now emphasizes this profession and pretends to be a pilot because of this particular pilots behavior.

Yuck filth right on top of the seat handles

Easy, comfortable seats, non-stop flights (now) to Spokane to see my mom in CDA. And they just expanded with their own brand new wing. They are one of the only airlines still serve drinks and snacks for free, focusing on Pacific Northwest vendors. Drinks for free in premium. That's where I learned about Straightaway old fashions. Tiny can, huge punch! Free wifi, texting, and movies. AND, they almost always land EARLY and have the bags out by the time you get to baggage claim...no waiting. Only complaint is that their first class needs an update for the extra cost, it's not really worth it on certain planes. This trip I did fly first class and pre-ordered the pulled pork baked potato which was pretty good for airplane food. Tip: preorder because there are way more options and I noticed by the time they got to the last row the 3 choices were down to one. Wish they had TV screens and seat tray, rather than tray coming out of armrest. Honestly, I refuse to fly any other airline, unless I have to. That's how much I love Alaska!

The customer service team who manages the Alaska Lounge membership is also top-notch and responsive. Just recently, they resolved a special request that I had and handled my situation with empathy and courtesy. Thank you Len Stockman and the Alaska Lounge Team! Other positive factors to note: I have the Alaska credit card and the points and perks make earning/saving easy. And while I do wish there are more far-reaching non-stop flights out of Spokane (I usually have to connect), the Alaska terminal at Spokane is the newest and nicest in that airport.

Rental car pickup and return are especially easy, making the arrival and departure process much less stressful. TSA can look pretty backed up because there isn't much room for the lines, but in our experience, it usually moves faster than it appears. The TSA agents have also been consistently friendly, which is a nice contrast to some larger airports. My biggest complaint is the food selection. There used to be a Quiznos, but now the options are more limited, with a gastropub, a juice bar, and a coffee shop. I'd personally rather have a simple fast-food option, especially when looking for something less sugary. There also isn't much seating near the gates, so when flights are busy, you may end up standing until boarding starts.

Rental cars are conveniently located at the end of the corridor, and you can walk from the terminal to your car in just a couple of minutes. Drop-off is even easier. I can not tell you how much i appreciate this as someone who missed flights twice in my life and both were due to long rental car drop off processes. The whole airport follows a simple, straightforward flow--you basically move from one checkpoint to the next without much confusion. There is TSA PreCheck, although the process feels a little old-school. Instead of a clearly separated experience throughout, they hand you the classic blue card while you're in the TSA line to indicate PreCheck. Once through security, there's a small, circular food court with a few options, including coffee and a juice spot. From there, the airport continues with the same wonderfully simple layout, branching into two hallways for the A and B gates. Nothing fancy or overwhelming here--and that's exactly why I like it. Small, convenient, easy rental-car access, and you can get from one end to the other without wasting time. One of those airports that makes traveling just a little less stressful.
