Boarded train 7 at 7:40pm in East Glacier Car attendant Rico says the bathroom outside our room doesn't work. Car 731 smells of human waste. Rico nicely says he has no idea what smells but 'they' gave him air freshener. No other rooms available. Been sick twice. How can this be that Amtrak has had knowledge at lesst since East Glacier. By attendants word, he knew about it before we even boarded. Customet service no.help Reservations no help Amtrak police contacted at 12:20 am thinking I was calling a complaint number. Train is due in Spokane, why hasn't amtrak made arrangements to switch cars in spokane. As of 12:30. No word. No help. No call back. Trip was for 10 year wedding anniversary. never again would i ride dirty ,broken amtrak. rode from spokane,wa to minot ,nd ,trying to get to wisconsi. de,ls ,wi. train was mega dirty,broken seats ,ect. windows in observation car were filthy. bathrooms were filthy. the train would go 40 to 5o miles a hour. stopped over and over to let bnsf freight run. it took from 1:00 am to 11:40 next night , 25 hours to go spokane to minot. not so on way back. left minot to spokane to 20.2 hours. why, you wonder.. i found out from conducter that if train is running ahead of schedule, they run lower speeds andlet other trains pass them. instead of going to sit at station ,which customers wouldnt like obvious delay.. so by minot, i had enough. it was another 9 hours to minneapolis. i was not unaware of riding amtrak, i did lot of research. on the empire builder goes out of white fish mt, you will not have wifi, and if its dark, nothing to look out windows. hours and hours of shear bordom.. food costs: cafe wasnt to bad, little steep fot a 5 oz coffee for $2.50. but meals in dinner, $15.00 breafast, $25 lunch , $45 dinner for quantity was a rip off.. drunks on train: quite a few drunk people acting up/ rowdy was a problem. one the had to kick off. yet they served him till he was that drunk.. yes amtrak has beer,wine and mixed drinks. coach car was mega hot and they said they would turn up ac, but never did. simply, terrible experience. amtrak not be bad for a under 8 hour trip, not on bnsf's high line and no wifi. but for me never again. i'd much rather fly. j u st dusgusting... read more

I survived the train trip surprisingly. Booking dates/times for arrival and departure to and from destinations cannot be changed once the vacation package is selected. Check out time at a hotel might be 11AM but the train won't be arriving at the station until 7PM. You'll be stuck with nothing to do for several hours. read more

I have been riding Amtrak all over America the past 10 years. Love it. Never an issue. I rode this past weekend from Spokane to Seattle to see family. The train leaving was four hours late. I have no issue with that as it more often then not on that route. When I got on the train there was nobody else sitting there. The train was full and they said take any seat. After I was seated a extremely large lady returned to her seat beside me. She took up her seat and half of mine as well. There was no place to move. I was in pain the whole time. To top it off there was a dirty adult diaper under my seat. I paid for a full seat yet got half. I called customer service to complain. They said they are so sorry the will give me 10.00 for future use on Amtrak. I got half a seat on the trip yet paid full. After loving the train for so long, not sure I will ride again. It is cheaper and faster to fly. read more

If I could leave zero stars I would. Ok! Here's my problem. I booked a train ticket. Get to the train station and was told I was on a garbage Northwest trailways. And because I was traveling with a firearm locked in a case. This subpar bus service wouldn't let me board. The agent for this low budget bus company did t have anyway to secure the weapon. Which brings me back to the bait and switch garbage train service had been straight forward I wouldn't have had to book a 330.00 airline ticket. read more

Okay this was our first experience with Amtrak and it was great! My husband and I will be using the train a lot more often and my husband said he may never fly again. Tips - great prices if you plan ahead... Under $100 for a round trip from Everett, WA to Spokane, WA without sacrificing comfort. We took the Empire Builder from Shelby, Montana to Portland, Oregon. The train was eight hours late! We were supposed to get on at 6pm but it didn't arrive in Shelby until 2am. The seats we had were decent for sleeping but I woke up with a stiff neck. My son and I ate breakfast in the dining car which stayed with us until Spokane, Washington. It was expensive for how small the portions were. The only other food on the train were some microwavable hamburgers. Since the train was delayed so much the crew got us some complimentary KFC at one of the stops in Oregon. The viewing lounge was amazing so we spent most of our time there. It was wonderful to get a good view of Glacier National Park in Montana and the Columbia River Gorge in Oregon. After our trip was over we called to complain about the delay so Amtrak gave us a $250 voucher to use on another trip this year. I will definitely bring a comfortable pillow and my own food if we go on another trip. read more

Amtrak adventure was disappointing; coach seats were very uncomfortable,we traveled from St Paul to Spokane, when we were traveling back to St Paul we stopped into the depot to see if we could check our baggage, but the baggage counter was closed, we parked in the parking lot and when we came out,we had a $46 ticket on our rental car! We were literally parked for less than 5 minutes! There was an outdated board to pay but no place that we could see to put money in. I am very disappointed with my reservation. My initial call with the booking showed the red flags, but I did not see them in time. The Glacier National Park tour only had one room left and the same issue with having a private room on the train. Then I was told there were issues with the Glacier National Park tour. But then it all got resolved, and we were supposed to be good. Then I was told the trip protection would cover any issues, and I could cancel for any reason and get a refund. Now today, I got an e-mail that the tour package was canceled. After waiting on hold for 35 minutes, I tried to cancel my trip for this reason, and I was told that trip protection does not give refunds but future travel vouchers. My issue is we are making quick decisions over the phone with an agent and not understanding the details better. (Shame on me for this). I feel I was misled, so my trip was changed leaving on Wednesday versus a Thursday now. The most upsetting part is the sale of the trip protection was misleading. I'm not sure what I am going to do now, but scheduling a future trip with Amtrak is probably not the answer. read more

Always fun to take the train ! It's a fun adventure for the family. I always took the train as a child with my mom to get up north from California. I always had fond memories as a child,. As an adult, still fun but they only get three stars from me because as an adult I can never remember the train ever being on time. read more

As I booked my ticket the money was taken from my bank but Amtrak wouldn't accept it and now I am stranded in Spokane, Washington and I am very very upset. Calling Amtrak was no help at all either, I will NOT be using them again. read more
