I would steer clear of Martin unless you want to be disrespected when getting your hair done. He was unprofessional and rude. I asked for a simple ponytail updo for a wedding. He was polite in the beginning but when my hair looked more like a bun (not what I asked for?) I asked for just a regular ponytail. His attitude completely changed: he got angry, was aggressively combing / pulling at my hair, sticking pins in my hair painfully and making me feel like an inconvenience. Ultimately when it was done there were pieces of hair falling out of the updo and tons of little bumps on the top. It looked very messy when he fixed it, and he blamed me for not liking his first style. I have gotten several ponytail updos and never had issues until this time - very bizarre and unpleasant experience. read more

I came here for the Pretty City highlights promotion a while ago. Kara did a fabulous job with my hair--very natural, finely weaved highlights throughout. I didn't have to go through my usual spiel with her either about not bleaching my hair out first, which was a bonus. The only downside was that I had issues figuring out where the salon was located because there were no signs off the escalator directing me where to go. You actually have to wander through the Spaggia doors to get to the salon. Also, if you're only there to get highlights, you have to blowdry/style your own hair after your shampoo, which was a surprise for me. I'm used to having people style me before I leave a salon. FABULOUS experience here! I hear that their specialty is actually hair extensions but when I was in there today, everyone in there was getting hair color done. Marlene worked her magic on me and I LOVE the result of the highlights! Fabulous - from the very moment I stepped in and had a brown robe put on me to their friendly customer service - offering me drinks, snacks, and for those customers that were hungry and getting service done during their lunch break, they offered them the Spiagga menu to order from. Marlene was a pure delight to have work on my hair - she explained everything and was very attentive to what I wanted to have done. She patiently highlighted my whole head and somehow made it look even better than I had imagined. This review is about my colorist at Delle Amiche Salon. Gabriel Hernandez is my colorist. I have been seeing him for over a decade. My hair is naturally dull brown but he does the most amazing job coloring my hair. I get compliments on it all the time. People think it's my natural hair color. I used to have blonde highlights and he did a fantastic job with that as well. I am EXTREMELY picky about who touches my hair. Gabriel is truly an artist who knows what he is doing. I went to get my hair colored with a coupon offered for 50% off. As far as promotions go, you would think this salon would take the opportunity to develop a relationship with their new customer so that they become a RETURNING customer. That's the point of coupons, right? I received awful treatment at this salon back in Dec 08. No one greeted me when I walked in, and finally my colorist wandered over 20 minutes later. She barely spoke a word to me, and instead talked to a customer who was getting her hair done next to me. After coloring my hair, she was done with me. The assistant who proceeded to wash my hair paid a lot more attention to me and actually had a conversation with me. The fact that this colorist wanted nothing to do with me is unacceptable. Ann is a wonderful hairstylist. She is very attentive and makes sure I am happy with my cut every time. Ann also styles my hair after each cut and answers all my questions about how to do it myself -- most salons just include a blow-dry with a haircut. On top of all this, she's extremely personable. Redux from a previous salon review: "I HATE HATE HATE salons...I hate getting my hair cut. I hate paying out the wazz to have some cooler-than-thou, snotty-assed stylist condescend to me 'cause I speak up for myself, then walk out an hour and a half later with an overly-blown and product-heavy crappy cut, a lighter wallet, and a feeling like I was violated." After 4 blissful years of not having to worry about some petty-assed, bullshit thing like who's gonna give me a good haircut so I don't have to think about this every day, I had to break up with my stylist. I was just too pissed about the hack-job she did on me the day before my 40th birthday. In eight months time it grew out to a workable length so I set out to find a new "go-to" gal/guy. Trying to find a new stylist is an exercise in arbitrary decision-making and trial-and-error. As such, I only chose Delle Amiche because they were offering a 50% off cut and color services promotion through Style Chicago. Thank Goddess I didn't pay full price for this shit. Despite that fact, between the "discounted" service costs, tipping on pre-promotion pricing and paying for parking, I still feel pretty ripped-off. I was assigned to Paul for the cut. I brought in 2 pictures of what I wanted my hair to look like, explaining that I was trying to grow it out but needed it to look good without massive amounts of daily styling. Apparently to Paul, "I want to grow my hair out" translates as "give me a bowl cut". My head looked like a fucking mushroom and he'd cut off all length that existed to the shortest in an effort to "even everything out". THE PICTURE I BROUGHT IN WAS IS A SHORT LAYERED CUT. By the time he'd cut the layers out of the "mushroom", 8 months of growing my hair out (more...it's even shorter now) had fallen to the floor at his incompetent feet. Seriously, dude, you're old enough to have been doing hair for a long time...what part of "I want my hair to look like the picture" is so hard to understand? The picture choice wasn't arbitrary. I spent 2 freakin' hours poring over styles to find one that I liked AND would work with what I HAD. HAD. Thanks for setting me back another 8 months, Paul. I just LOVE looking like fucking Julie Andrews in "The Sound of Music". *SIGH* So the second star is for Tatum who did my color. It's OK. She tried. But I'm still gonna have to punch it up on my own. I could probably go back and have her do it, but a) I really don't want to set foot in that place again and b) I certainly don't want to pay $26 for parking again. I love going to this salon. Not only do they make you feel at home, MyLinh Truong is the girl you want to go see. She does an outstanding job with hair. I had extensions put it by her and they looked amazing!!! They look so real and they last about 5 months. (This depends on how fast your hair grows). She really takes her time and makes sure that you understand everything about the process and makes sure you are satisfied. I also get my hair colored by her and love everything that she does. I met Colleen 12 years ago and she changed my life! She was able to tame this thick head of hair I have been blessed with. I used to think I was cursed with the hair I was given until I met Colleen. I have known Colleen Mortag for over 10 years now. She has been my hair stylist since then when she was working at another salon. She is so great at what she does and she has a passion for it that I had to follow her when she moved to Delle Amiche. She will work with any type of hair. My hair, in particular, is thick and has a lot of texture. I like changing hair styles almost every year from short to long and viceversa, and she always manages to give me the perfect hair style whether I want to wear it short or long. She makes me love my hair even more every time she styles it. The fact that she loves and enjoys what she does makes her be up to date about the newest styles and trends in fashion. He took me from my deep chocolate brown hair to the exact icy blonde I wanted in just 2 sessions-something nobody else has been able to successfully do! He also couldn't have been more accommodating or attentive with my comfort throughout the whole thing (adjusted the water temperature, got me something to drink & snacks, made sure my neck wasn't being strained, etc.) That is all before I got my hair cut by Dorota, who is a magician with scissors. I had appointment with Pascal last summer, who is FABULOUS!!!!!!!!!!!! I have naturally curly hair, and have been getting it cut at high end salons for years, but never could make it look good on my own in real life... I loved my hair as soon as Pascal did it, however, the best part was the following day (and everyday since) when I did my hair on my own, and it looked gorgeous. I don't know how he did it, but all I need to do is put a little gel in my hair, and the curls are fabulous, making my whole hairstyle look great (if you call it a style that is, I have medium-long hair and dont' do much to it besides the 2 minutes of gel) As I said before, I've been to a lot of high esteemed hairstylists in the past, but no one has ever been able to do what Pascal has done with my hair (I didn't even think it was possible to get my curls to look good by myself) The Salon was also great as a whole! read more

Carolyn, I don't know where you got the story from about my nails and how I plan to get it refunded. It must be one of your other clients you've confused me with. I didn't get my nails done until July 2nd at Spa Emilia (after I went to Delle Amiche), who I couldn't rave about more. They are the perfect example of quality and professional services from a salon, unlike your salon, Delle Amiche. The reason why I made an appt for Tuesday and then cancelled was because by Monday evening, my eyelids weren't as puffy so, I thought it wasn't the eyelashes that was irritating me. I tried to give the lashes the benefit of the doubt and not have to remove them if they weren't the cause of my irritated eyes. I mean, I love to have long lashes and after spending the time and money getting them put in, I didn't want to have to take them off. But by Tuesday morning, my eyes were red and swollen again. I did not make threats or try to blackmail to get you to refund the lash extensions. I said I would be more than happy to give a great review of Mylinh's services if your salon actually took care of me when I complained about irritated and swollen eyelids from the extensions. Instead of taking care of your client and concern for my eyes, all you cared about was keeping the measly $250. As if I cared about the $250!! Now, it's all about the principal. The fact that your salon refused to return my call and refused to remove the lashes for me is completely unprofessional. They had caller id and did not pick up when they saw my cell phone number, but picked up right away when I called on my office number. When Mylinh said you would call back, I expected that courtesy, instead of the immature phone games your salon was playing. I said to Mylinh that this is not a matter that needs to be brought to the courts, but you took that to mean that I want to sue you. Apparently, you must hear that alot from your clients to have to jump to that conclusion. I just feel that your salon did not deserve to be paid if you did not give the service requested. Mylinh never asked me to come in so she could look at my eyes. As an update, when I went to Roque Salon and spent another $90 to get my lashes removed, the technician there was very sympathtic and they were use to removing badly applied lash extensions from other salons. As he removed my lashes, he told me that at first he thought the glue was probably the cause of the irritaion, but when he removed the lashes he saw that the lashes were applied too close to the eyelids and that was why they were poking me and causing the irritation. The false lashes should never touch the eyelids, they should only rest on your lashes. Also, Mylinh didn't wait long enough for the glue to dry so each of my lash had clumps of 2 or 3 lashes, adding to the weight and irritation of my eyes. I was surprised that Mylinh only took 1 hour to put on my lashes - a full set!! When I had Flutter lashes done by Roque about 2 years ago (flutter is only 70-80 lashes) they took about 2 hours. No wonder it was only an hour, she rushed it and the glue did not set properly and the clumped together making my lashes look all sparse and spidery and felt like porcupines. When Roque did the Flutter, even though it was fewer lashes, my lashes still looked full and lush and so soft I couldn't stop touching them. I should have spent the extra $50 and went to Roque to begin with and not have to deal with a hair colorist masquarading as a lash technician. BEWARE people!! Go to Roque for your lash extensions!! Ask for Brian!! He was so sweet and caring when he took off those horrid lashes. Also, isn't it funny how Delle Amiche got someone to write up a positive review on 7/18? I'm never one to write reviews, good or bad, but this salon is so horrible I feel it is my duty as a consumer to warn people. read more

I am a 68 year young woman who goes to Ward for color. Normally I hate going to salons, I hate when the 30 something ass-hole- know-it-all stylists/colorists tell me how wrong my color, cut, personality, attitude, etc are so so passé. Ward is a breath of fresh air plus genius. Never pretentious, presumptive, or superior in attitude. He is like the boy next door, my grandson, or my sister's adorable, funny, smart, talented son. Always your interest is his best interest. He puts one at ease right off the bat because his voice is calming without being condescending, and he actually listens to you....and if you are too shy to say what you want or don't even know what you want (all salon-phobic 68 year olds see me), he just glides you gently through the options/choices/suggestions. Beside being a top-notch colorist ( and I am still trying to hang on to my red hair and he makes it happen) he is a gentlemen's gentleman with class, aplomb, humor. Ugh! It makes me so sad to leave this review but I was really really letdown by what happened here. I was very nervous to get a haircut bc last cut was traumatic and I'm growing my hair out now. I went to a stylist that was specifically recommended to me and she said she would only cut an inch. She cut 4 and my hair is so much visibly shorter that even my brother commented on it and was like "wow, short hair! I like it" which of course spiraled me into tears. It really upsets me when stylists don't listen to their clients. I don't know why it happens so often but it stinks and doesn't seem fair. I have been working hard to grow my hair out and she just chopped it off and I'm back where I started a year ago. Also I should mention the trim was pretty expensive ($120) and the salon wasn't very nice. It's very small, feels a little dirty/outdated. I can't say better things about Delle Amiche and my stylist MyLinh. Everytime I go to the salon she is always so nice and extremely professional and the staff is always so helpful as well. I have been having my hair colored and styled by MyLinh since 2003. I always get some many compliments and about my hair style and color. I would follow her anywhere she goes! I have recommended numerous friends to the salon and all of them have gone back! I just got married on July 4th, 2009. MyLinh discussed placing eyelash extensions for me for my special day and I agreed. I already have pretty long eyelashes but the result was amazing and the process was so easy! Mylinh was extremely gentle and during all the stress of wedding planning, it was so nice to kick back and relax for a few hours. Like she said, I just laid back and went to sleep. I didn't even feel a thing. Everyone noticed my eyelashes and commented about about how great they look. It is 2 weeks now after I have had my lashes placed and they still look amazing. Mylinh followed up with me after the lashes were placed and asked how I was doing after the placement of the lashes since it was my first time. And they were wonderful! I would recommended Mylinh and getting lash extensions placed to anyone! She is so diligent and pays so much attention to detail. I recently visited the upscale Delle Amiche salon for a haircut and allover color and I can't stop raving over the services I received! Tatum did my allover color and listened to every concern I had about my hair. She also made helpful suggestions when I was in doubt. For my haircut I got matched with Colleen who also did an equally fabulous job. I am one of those people who does not like cutting my hair for the fear of having all my long hair cut off! This was definitely not the case with Colleen. She really lightened my heavy hair and worked with my round face shape creating a nice balance. I will definitely be visiting Delle Amiche in the future. I also received 50% off my rather expensive services for being a first time customer!
