The canvas is a creamy white frosting, the base wrapped with flowing grass icing and white and yellow flower fondant. A classic whimsical Winnie and Piglet are nestled in the grass. As you make your way to the top of the cake, there's a "Hunny" jar with overflowing honey icing spilling over the side, and little fondant bees enjoying the bountiful honey. Perched at the top next to the honey jar is a chocolate yellow honeycomb, a perfect touch to this artful cake. The cake was an absolute hit with guests, and a perfect centerpiece. Then it came time to cut the cake... which felt so wrong but also so so right. The cake cut smoothly and was impeccably moist. Inside was a chocolate cake with a chocolate mousse filling. It was as lovely and delicious on the inside as it appeared on the outside. Infinity out of 10, can't recommend Marvel Cake enough! Great communication with Maryam, on-time pickup the morning of our event, and the price was very reasonable. If you're in the Campbell / San Jose area and looking for a custom cake, look no further! Same fluffy cake, same very fragrant guava flavor, same bright old-school appearance. To me, it tastes surprisingly natural and close to real fruit. I've had plenty of guava desserts where you immediately get that artificial syrup/flavoring impression. I don't get that here. The guava is strong and fragrant, the cake itself is very light and fluffy, and the mousse and glossy guava topping give you that fruit flavor in almost every bite. This is definitely an old-school cake. It's not trying to be Lady M or some modern Instagram dessert. And that's fine. A good traditional cake is still a good cake. Usually I'm buying the whole cake to bring to someone's house, so I've watched a lot of first-timers try it over the years. Guava is guava - some people think it's on the sweet side, others love how fragrant it is. But somehow this is the one guava cake I've brought around that pretty much everybody ends up liking. And one comment I hear a lot is how natural the guava flavor tastes. It's around $70 for a whole cake now, which definitely isn't cheap. But if I'm paying that much for cake, at least give me something I can actually remember the next day. This one I can. If I'm planning to pick one up around 4 or 5 PM, I normally order earlier in the day. I've learned not to conduct unnecessary cake-inventory experiments. (They would also do delivery with an additional cost.) An hour before our meeting time, she sent a text with the make/model/color of their car, as well as, some dessert care instructions. They arrived on time. The cake was carefully packaged and included a "Happy Birthday" paper topper. The cake was really good. It was fresh and airy; the black sesame taste really stood out; the blueberry jam was delicious and not too sweet; the hojicha fresh cream was light and flavorful. While we all really enjoyed the cake, it's very pricey, and it's a 20-min drive from home to pick it up at one of the two time choices.
