Half cooked crust (raw dough on one side) and seasoned with OREGANO instead of basil. Tip: Order from the "Wildkarte" menu of classic Swiss dishes. Done well. The selection of classic Swiss dishes impresses. The rehschnitzel AKA venison escalope with cream sauce, cowberry, red cabbage dressed with chestnuts and apples and butterspaetzli, solid. Tender pieces of perfectly cooked venison tenderloin enrobed in a rich cream sauce (venison demi and rich heavy cream). The pronounced gamey notes are well matched by the tart red cabbage. Chestnuts add the Autumn flavors and a baked apple filled with tangy cowberry compote to round out the dish. The only weak spot, the butter fried spaetzili. Gummy and rubbery. Totally unnecessary with a nutty, burnt butter flavor that didn't belong. Friendly, touristy service. English spoken with English and Chinese menus. Very limited wine list but still featuring a few wines of Luzern. It just goes to show, you can't suppress a chef's desire to make the food of his home well. It is actually part of a tennis club but open to the public. We arrived at our appointed time and were worried when our online reservation (go to their website) couldn't be found. When I pulled up my email confirmation we discovered I had booked that date....but for a year from now! (A bit surprised an online reservation would allow submitting a rsvp request that far in advance). Luckily for us they had one table left. A group of 44-all the remaining seats-were expected at 7 so we hustled with our ordering. We started with a charcuterie platter then all got the special, grilled white fish (which was really good). Interestingly, the fish came atop mixed fall vegetables (tasty) then in addition, they bring fries and a pasta salad plus three sauces all served family style to the table-so plenty of food. Loved the bernaise with the fries. To their credit despite the presence of the large group, we never felt neglected or ignored. It was fascinating to watch the precision of the small staff in plating and serving the group given the very small open kitchen. A truly hidden gem off the beaten track and well worth taking the train to dine here.
