She helped clarify some questions I had like is the Swiss cheese on the Paris Special, American Swiss or Emmental since Swiss cheese is only an American thing. It is American Swiss for those asking. When in Rome I guess. The Paris Special is diced ham, eggs, and Swiss cheese on a croissant. I also ordered the diced potatoes with onion. The sandwich was good. Eggs were cooked perfectly, ham was diced out of a bag by the texture of it... it was fine. The croissant was very buttery, but I felt it was so buttery, it lost some exterior texture a fresh croissant may have. The potatoes were very tasty, but were dripping in oil on the plate. One thing that seemed to surprise me was me was the unsweetened iced tea. I felt it had black currant in it. That was lovely! Overall, this place is good. The price was not so great. But it is definitely cheaper than a trip to Paris.

I also tried a Ginger cookie which was a good size and very soft and fresh. The surrounding grounds are so peaceful and beautiful. There are walking trails, beautiful buildings, and outdoor market, and even a duck, chicken, and goat pen. I was thoroughly impressed by this gorgeous property nestled in the back of a neighborhood. We recently took home one of their frozen Shepards Pies and while the crust was great and it had plenty of meat filling there was way, way too much salt in the recipe. I will almost always pick black coffee over lattes, cappuccinos, and other classic combinations that would potentially mask the flavor notes of good quality coffee. The exceptions are specialty coffee drinks that have some unique combination of ingredients (aside from just different syrup flavors). But even then, I admit I'm a bit wary of having tried many cafes where these specialty drinks end up being too sweet. I've passed by Cherry & Coffee Cafe many times in Hawthorn mall in the past without giving it a second thought because of the very thing I mentioned above - likening it to cafes with overly sweet drinks. On this particular day, which happened to be Father's Day, I was in the area and looking for something caffeinated in the afternoon. I happened to glance at Cherry & Coffee Cafe's menu on google and saw something called "Black Forest Coffee", which was described as being made with chocolate syrup and maraschino cherries. This sounded intriguing enough that I ventured over to give it a shot. It somehow didn't click in my mind that this wasn't black coffee (I had interpreted/misread the description as having notes of chocolate and cherry). It finally hit me when I was ordering my drink and the barista asked me which milk I wanted (it's also quite possible I got confused because "coffee" was in the name instead of "latte"). Two tacos came on a small plate and rice on a separate plate. I don't know why this place doesn't invest in bigger plates to hold all the food as all the separate plates take up a lot of space on the table. One person got fajitas and she had five plates. FIVE. PLATES. Seriously, WTH?! And of course, I had lettuce on my tacos and they were drowning. And before I knew I had to give my chicken and steak tacos life preservers, I had already added verde sauce. So imagine my seriously wet tacos now being infused with more liquid. They were gross. But let's go back to the time before I had my dinner. Our group took up four tables. Our table was the second one to order, but our food never came out. To give a reference, one couple arrived about 20 minutes after we ordered. They then placed their own order and received it before we received ours. So the main waitress apologized profusely and said she'd bring more chops and salsa, but she'd also bring over chips and guac. Which she did do. She brought chips (no salsa) and chips and guac. Then finally our meals came. I mean my meal and the two other people at our table. Well, sort of. One person never received the side of chips and guac. Just the one for the table for the unplaced order. My wife's meal took another ten minutes to arrive. However, a server who seemed perturbed brought her an al pastor (pork) taco. She said she'd bring ordered chicken. The server got upset and then quickly turned on her heel to bring the wrong plate back to the kitchen. She almost hit me in the head with the plate. Thankfully, I saw what she was doing and turned away just in time. So she was finally brought almost the right meal by the owner who had to make four trips as he kept forgetting to bring her everything she ordered. When the bill came, we were charged for the chips and guac. The one that was brought to the table as an apology, not the one that was actually ordered. It was quickly removed from the bill. The owner thanked us for our patience and then said that they were sorry about everything but didn't know they'd be so slammed due to homecoming. Um, we made our reservation weeks in advance. They were just understaffed for the evening and the kitchen doesn't seem to know that after you rinse the lettuce, you drain the water and maybe dab it with a towel to remove all the excess water. I'll say this: there are plenty of Mexican restaurants around that we'll never return here.
