I recently started patronizing Deli Beer & Wine because it was highly recommended by my adult son. He specifically recommended their Italian Cold Cut Sub. I tried it and now I am hooked...it's delicious! I later tried their French Fries and found them to also be quite delicious (they are like steak fries and decent sized). They carry all manner of things to drink as well...they had some sodas I had never seen anywhere else that were also a hit with me. The older lady that greets you when you come in is very grumpy and does not seem to understand English. Not sure why she's taking orders. When I asked about their soup she just stared at me and then walked away. Luckily another woman came up to the counter and took my order. I was impressed that their chicken noodle soup is homemade until I ate it. Not impressed. I also ordered the fish filet and this thing looked like something you'd buy from Walmart in their frozen food section. And then to add insult to injury it was 13 dollars for this nonsense AND No bathroom for customers??? I didn't think a restaurant could have more than two tables and not be required to provide a bathroom to their patrons. Not sure why this place gets such great reviews. No more beer runs. Now, I can beer walk. First of all, one star automatically goes directly towards convenience. A deli, beer and wine within a 5 minute walk from my residence? Cha-ching! Just what a twenty-something, single needs. Apparently this deli has been here for a really long time. My mom recalls that it has been around since she first came to the United States 30-errr...or so, years ago. This is truly a neighborhood deli. Although small, there is such a variety of menu options (hot and cold sandwiches, sides, salads, soups) as well as beverages of the alcoholic and non-alcoholic variety. This past weekend, I stopped by here and ordered a roast beef and turkey sandwich on wheat bread ($6.50) with a side of fries and a medium drink (+2.95.) There was just enough meat on it in proportion to the thin,wheat bread used to make the sandwich. The fries were good as well - thinly cut potato, with just enough salt. They also sell Twisted Tea here and forties. I know you probably don't care about either of those offerings, but Twisted Tea holds a special place in my heart because it was the first alcoholic beverage that ever touched my lips. The forties just seemed random and reminded me of a time in college that we tried to play Edward Forty Hands. Epic fail. Epic loser. Anyway, if you stop by make sure you don't come too late. Good sandwich in a mostly take out kind of place. Not much ambiance but good clean place to eat if you want to.

This place is a hidden gem! It might not look aesthetically pretty but the food is delicious and affordable! They have quite a selection of sandwiches and different combos as well. Would recommend the steak and cheese sub, gyro and spicy chicken. Breadwise, not a huge fan of their "bun" but their "soft sub roll" is delicious, soft and mildly sweet. The deli hours for weekdays are till 8pm and 6pm on Saturday but the store is open till 9pm Mon to Sat. They have a couple of tables to sit and eat but probably not suitable for a large group, more like a grab and go place. The soups they have are chicken noodle, lentil soup and split pea soup. Lentil and split pea are on the saltier side but made fresh every morning. The guy at the counter gives great customer service while the lady gives just alright service. This place is great and SUPER convenient if you live in downtown Silver Spring. The sweet potato pie is FAR beyond what I would expect from a neighborhood deli. It is REALLY good! Today I had the spicy chicken sandwich combo for a change (for a while I had been getting the cheeseburger combo), and this chicken sandwich was OFF THE CHAIN! For real!!! Very Tasty! I needed a break from bringing my lunch and decided to try this little deli. It's just what it says... Beer/Wine & Deli. I suppose the availability of beer and wine is nice, but, prices are marked up about $3-4 over grocery pricing. They have a variety of hot and cold sandwiches - average price of about $7. Add fries and medium fountain drink for $3.25 more. The chicken strips and fries were good. Big portion! And, they have Old Bay on the tables. Nice MD touch! This place is unbelievably excellent and convenient in you live in the building, but otherwise, there are better places to get food and booze around the area. That said - I love this place - because of it's convenience. I just hop downstairs when I need a snack or run out of beer, and I can grab it right here! It has your standard deli fare, as well as some kebabs you can munch on, and a pretty decent selection of wine and beer, considering it's small size. Prices are also very reasonable, and the serving sizes are large. The hours it's open can be an issue, unless you are a septuagenarian eating dinner at 4PM so you can make it back to your home in time to watch Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune. It always closes before 9PM, so if are in the middle of tying one off and you run out of beer, you may be SOL if you try to run to this place to restock your supplies. Similarly, it opens a little later in the mornings - so if you want to grab a bagel on the way to work, it also may not be open. I'll definitely be back - in fact, I find myself here quite a bit, However, I can't say I would recommend coming too far out of your way to get some grub here. read more

The food here is amazing! Any time I am craving a cheeseburger this is my first pick in the downtown Silver Spring area. It's super close to my apartment so it's very convenient and I don't ever think twice about needing to go somewhere else for my burger and fries. Food service is also super quick. I call in my order and it is ready as soon as I arrive to pick it up. I had family visiting and staying in the hotel across the street. I always thought this place was sketchy (maybe cause I pass it at night?), but I stopped by based on a recommendation from a coworker AND my hairdresser. They weren't kidding! It's great! I ordered the gyro pita which came in at about $6.50. Fries would have costed an extra $3. It was quickly made and so fresh. Delicious! The owner was also very kind and personable. This is a decent place hidden behind a nail salon. The food is kinda pricey but it's very good for a corner store. Their cheesesteak and fries are very good. Only con is the older hispanic lady behind the register is kinda racist towards black people as the few times I visited I've seen her throw an attitude or ignore black customers including a coworker I went to eat lunch with here. I live in the apartment building located above the deli, so I eat here semi-regularly...I've never been disappointed by anything that I've ordered and the man who owns the shop is always extremely friendly and personable. On top of that, they sell beer and wine-- it's a little more expensive than it would be at the liquor store further downtown but not much more and it's completely worth it on days where you're feeling lazy or are short on time and need to grab something quickly. Certainly there is a convenience factor for those of us living in the neighborhood as it is just as easy to walk to as it is to drive (if you are within a 3-4 block radius). It's a no frills beer & wine/sandwich shop. The owner and staff remember repeat customers and always have a friendly word to say. Also, they have a pretty decent wine selection that is reasonably priced. However, you can always get better deals at the Class-6 shoppette on base/post. Lastly, they are open until 10:00 most nights, which is a convenience factor as I am always forgetting to pick up the wine when I'm grocery shopping. read more

This place is across the street from the Sheraton so it is convenient. It's a weird little beer/wine, sandwich, lottery place. You feel exposed and vulnerable when you walk in, but strangely interested in knowing more about the owner and who exactly is behind that wall making the sandwiches. The gyro was the worst I ever had. It was overcooked Sysco gyro meat on a round pita that broke apart into many pieces when I tried to pick it up and eat it like a real gyro. The fries on the the other hand, were some of the best I've had in a long time. I wish I was staying in the area longer so that I could try more items and learn why the place is named Deli Beer Wine. After scanning over their thorough menu, from breakfast sandwiches to the classic Italian and Ruben subs, I chose to get my o-so-favorite Italian for around $7. I thought it was fair since the usual deli I stop by sells the same sub for around $8-9. I was extremely pleased with my choice. They offered additions such has various condiments and hot peppers, allowing you to make the sub the way you like it. Once I decided on my sandwich it took no more than 5 minutes for me to receive the sub and walk out the door. Being in the area, I continuously come back here for their great prices and variety of meal options. Overall, the food doesn't blow you away but it pleases your taste buds and your wallet.
