How lucky were we?!? If you're in the market for any flooring work, it is worth reading on to find out. Jim and Andrea were the last company to give us a quote for a fairly complex floor refinish/install and thank goodness for our perseverance. Our pre-finished builder grade Bruce hardwood had a pretty good bevel, multiple spots on the floors were worn through the finish from previous owners' dogs, there was some inconsistency with the install that occurred 20 years ago when the house was built, not to mention water damage and we wanted to add hardwood where there was carpet in the family room. We were beginning to lose hope with previous 4 quotes ranging from "we can do it, but..." to a disheartening quote from a well known local company that is considered high standard in this area. I'll name drop simply because others feel compelled to name drop on their critical reviews. My quote from Ziggy's consisted of Ziggy wandering into my open garage and knocking not at my front door, but at my garage door. It was him coming in and basically saying I can't do anything you're asking for. He said, "you can't sand that bevel out, you'll end up with uneven finish and splinters, it will splinter. I've been doing this for 30 years and I teach this stuff. You can't sand out that bevel." He said this even as the other three quotes to this point indicated it was absolutely possible. "You won't be able to make the new floors look like they belong with the old floors." Also not true. Aside from spending half of the quote touting his credentials, Ziggy was also very dismissive of anything we had in mind and simply told us what he envisioned with our floors; it felt as though he didn't listen at all and was only quoting us for what he was willing to do. 10 min after his arrival, he was gone and we were on to the next...we were frustrated because we were being told by one professional who had good ratings that it was impossible to complete this job and then by three other companies that they wouldn't be able to do what we were asking...but could do it half ass for x amount. Boy, were they ALL wrong. Jim and Andrea came into our home with a keen eye and plenty of recommendations for a perfect finish and they quoted us to ensure the floor was done correctly. They were here for about 45 minutes to really get a feel for what it was we wanted to accomplish and to visualize it with us. It wasn't a matter of IF we wanted it done correctly or knew enough to ensure we asked about having it done correctly, they simply said "we can do anything you want, but this is how you do what you're asking for." They were very reassuring that our situation was not unique as others had made us feel. Jim, who I learned is a MASTER in his field and actively trains his peers (he received multiple phone calls while on our job from other flooring professionals with text pictures asking how he would properly complete a job and he even lent tools to another peer who had a tool break in the field) in this field, not simply high school wood shop. He did a GREAT job explaining the process both before and during the refinishing/install process. I also found that although he doesn't like to brag about his education and training, he has more cumulative hours on very specific finishing methods than most do on flooring in general (upwards of 16k hours). Couple all of this expertise with the fact that we didn't have to move out of our house for a week or more and we couldn't have asked for a better experience. Our floors have been finished for over a month now and I have recommended Jim and Andrea by mouth to close friends in the market for floor refinishing. It took them coming over once to see our floors to convince them to give Jim and Andrea a call. If you're getting frustrated with quotes that you've been given or you've had a bad experience with a nightmare refinish, give them a call! I can't recommend them highly enough. Jim (business owner) and his team are very professional and do truly beautiful and clean work. Our 30 yr old floors in the home we just bought now look brand new, And we couldn't be happier! Response time from our initial contact was same day, and the work was done the following week. The dustless system they use is really amazing and true to its title. I expected a thin layer of dust and big clean up job for us when they were finished, but I barely had to wipe down a banister. Everything was pretty much spotless. The scratches from previous owners are gone, the water stains disappeared too. Jim recommended a range of colors that would look best on the type of wood we had and the amount of natural light in our home. The stain application is a rich natural even color and we can now see the beautiful grain of the wood. If you are searching for a company to refinish or repair/restore your existing hardwood, don't hesitate. DO NOT hire these people. They don't show up when they are suppose to. That should have raised a red flag. They then came out several times and we picked what we wanted and needed an estimate for the work, Waited a few days and received a partial estimate - told us the rest of the estimate would be sent the next day it was not. About a week later after contacting them several times they finally sent it. It was still incomplete. Another red flag ! When we asked if we were still on schedule with the day they gave us - we were told no because we didn't sign the contract in time we were now 2 - 3 months out. How do you sign and incomplete contract??? We were then told that they didn't want our job cause something bigger came along. It was a blessing in disguise - we decided to go with Ziggy's and got the most beautiful floor ever with no hassles ! read more

Delaware Valley Hardwood did a refinish on our dining room floor and stair treads. The owner, Jim and his team, did such a great job. We were highly impressed with the product and the professionalism they carried throughout the process that we requested them to come back for a new install in our living room. We initially hired Delaware Valley Hardwoods from a referral. They showed up, gave an estimate and did a good job....but they forgot to finish under the refrigerator door so every time it was opened there was an unfinished section of flooring. obviously it was a simple mistake, but It was like pulling teeth to get Jim (the owner) to call us back let alone finish the job. They did eventually get back to finish it months later, but used the wrong finish and then it went back to pulling teeth again for them to come back out to correct the job. In the end, it did get fixed but was so-so and not worth arguing about. We are now three years after the floors have been finished and with heavy use and kids we thought it would be wise to get the floor touched up (for a fee obviously). Looking to stay with the same company, we called Jim multiple times and left messages and yet no response. My warning would be if you want a quick inexpensive job than give them a call. If you want a company who is responsive and there after the job or down the road I would move on and call someone else. read more
