Swings, picnic table, and caterpillar climbing structure
Marissa C.

We enjoy day visits to the beach here at Delaware State Park during warm weather. There have been some nice updates to the beach area. In addition to a nice expanse of sand along the water, which we always find freshly combed when we arrive in the mornings, there are some nice new amenities, including a very nice playground area. One side of the beach retained the older set of swings and caterpillar climbing structure, which is very cute, while the other now has a larger playset with a honeycomb climbing area, baby and traditional swings, several slides, a rock-like climbing area, and the like. There is also a nice sized shelterhouse with picnic tables, while additional benches, picnic tables, and trash cans are distributed across the area. There is also a small restroom area available, plus a nice large parking lot. The new amenities are a welcome addition for an enjoyable beach visit!

I lived in the Columbus area for four years, and of course knew about this park's popular "cousin," Alum Creek, but strangely never realized this lesser known (to me, any way...) gem was "just up the road!!" Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area, which we were this beautiful fall weekend, as we explore camping options in the area. Off-season means uncrowded campsites, and there's PLENTY to do here, from the smaller, more manageable waterway to the less crowded hiking trails and other facilities. I also noticed trains passing by pretty regularly in the distance, but they didn't seem like a deal breaker. Beautiful, peaceful spot. We'll be back, hopefully SOON!!

Delaware State Park is good for a weekend of camping. It has a beautiful lake in the middle. This is where people spend most time. It has several trails around the lake. There's a few camping areas with picnic shelters. It's not as popular as Alum Creek. It doesn't have as good of a beach, but here the water is an improvement. The lake looks really clean, so it's good for swimming. It would be nice if the beach was better. There's a lot of litter and it looks kind of trashy. It has several hiking trails, which could use some clearing. The parking lot that's close to the lake has a big shelterhouse. It also is located next to a disc golf course. The best thing is still the lake though. It can be hard to get a spot for camping. It always seems to fill up fast. You can book a spot on the website.

Ice and snow covered trees on the drive into the campground. Near 3 mile drive through winding roads and beautiful foliage.

Locates in a forest around 20 minutes North of Columbus is a rare gem. The Delaware state park has hot showers, laundry facility and brand new pavement. They just finished putting asphalt through the entire park. All camping pads are freshly paved and wider than before, fitting 2 vehicles side by side now. Once you turn off route 23 I to the park, it's a 3.4 mile drive through winding roads with beautiful foliage and wildlife around many corners. Their winter camping season is very peaceful and beautiful. My dog loves being able to run around, the camping areas are tucked into heavily wooded areas with new fire pits. Nice amount of space between camp sites. The yurts are closed for the season, so there are only 3 sites in the loop near them. Feels like I have the place to myself and really enjoying the park.

We've been camping here once or twice a year for about 25 years. Its one of the many nice campgrounds as part of the Ohio State DNR system. The facilities are a little rustic, but clean and well maintained. Lots of nice events on weekends and its quiet during the week. I really love the fact that in the past few years, they have upgraded their web presence and reserving a spot on the web is easy. It makes it not a rush to get there right away and get your spot.

At the beach I'm not finding any places to walk no paths? On a trip with my little buddy aka dog. A lot of trees cut down branches everywhere cannot walk around. Beach is more like dirt not sand. Parking seems controversial; this is more like a pit stop then really a nice decent Beach. Make it one of those area rest.

At Alum Creek you have to wait in a line just for the other boats to finish loading not here, it's as simple as 1, 2, 3 and your out.

The trail system is small within the park, and includes two approximately 1/2 mile trails, the Woodland Ridge Trail that stays in the forest, and the Pinegrove Trail, which takes you through more woods and some meadow-like sections. It also offers a wildlife blind to view a blind, with birds, turtles, and more wildlife to see. You can easily combine the two trails by crossing the bridge located over the ravine, which is an extremely popular location for pictures. Near the parking area is a nature center, which has a lovely garden out front. The staff is extremely friendly and will chat and provide information. On our most recent visit, we got a heads-up about a pair of active ospreys viewable from the Alum Creek Osprey Overlook just up the road, which can be hiked/biked from Hogback Ridge if you want to extend your hike/jog/ride. This is normally a very quiet preserve, but we found a big cycling event going on during our most recent visit that seemed to be running out of the park. We still found parking and everyone was very friendly - a couple of the cyclists made sure we knew about the ospreys. Great place to visit!

We reserved one of the full hookup sites online and stayed at the end of September 2025. The online…read morereservation site has all the details on lot size, electricity info, distance to showers, etc. However, it's limited in showing different dates, which is frustrating. Anyway, the check-in time is 3pm and check-out is 1pm. We paid fifty-three dollars per night for two adults and one dog, with a six fifty reservation charge. Check-in was easy, and the attendant was helpful; you just drive up to the office, check-in and go on your way. The layout is similar to a subdivision with cul-de-sacs and each spot having its own little yard, making it feel somewhat like camping in the woods. Our neighbors were quiet and most vehicles drove slowly. Everyone we met was pleasant and friendly. The camp itself was clean and easy to hook up. Bathrooms and showers were clean and there was plenty of toilet paper. Large trash bins were available along with gray water stations. The only thing I'd suggest is for the site identifiers to be repainted, as several had faded over time. We visited the beach, but didn't go swimming, given the temperature. The pond is catch and release and seemed maintained and not stagnant. The budget limitations need to be considered before passing judgment. We used bug spray every day and that seemed to help keep the bugs away. The site we booked had a level surface and plenty of room to back in. The water and electrical were easily accessible and worked fine. A lot of campers used an inline water filter. The water quality report is on the park website for anyone interested. The grass was well trodden, making a camp rug a must-have. There was also a fire pit with a grill attached, but we didn't use it to cook. Also, at the time, there wasn't a burn ban. Overall it was an enjoyable experience and we'll definitely return. It was fun to walk down the aisles and see all the setups and decorations and note future camp site options. How many campers are long-timers, it's hard to tell. But we were pleased and our dog loved exploring on our walks.

There were a few different food trucks lined up as well. I'll likely bring swim shoes next time because I didn't enjoy feeling the bottom of the creek, but I had a fun time floating around and lounging on the shore.
