Should have known better. Was so excited that this Del taco opened a few years ago in Lawrenceville. Every time I got off 316 I would stop here. Unfortunately, the service has gotten worse and worse. Today is a Saturday evening before 6 PM. There was only one car in front of me so I thought, what the heck I'll stop and grab something. Took about a minute for the drive-through person to acknowledge my existence through the speaker. I ordered three of the same items, she said too. I said no three, I even said it in Spanish in case she had a difficult time comprehending English. No big deal. Pulled up to the drive-in window. And waited. And waited. And waited. Even shut off my engine because it was taking so long. Thank goodness we have cell phones. Went on Facebook for a few, got caught up with reading and scrolling. Went through a few rabbit holes and realized I'm sitting in a drive-through waiting for food. I can't tell you how many minutes went by and the guy in front of me hasn't moved. I started my engine and went around him. He too was on his phone scrolling through. Man, fast food is not like it used to be. I honestly could've sat down in a good restaurant and then served before this. I think I'm done with this place. Going back to Suwanee to get some real Mexican food. Sure I'll pay a few dollars more for a sit down place, but I will be served and I won't have to question being fed today. Special thanks to the Del taco manager that runs this joint. Well I tried it and I'm not impressed. I signed up for the app and received 2 free tacos with any purchase. So I decided to try their new burrito which has melted cheese, chicken or steak and fries in it . It was very good. I would say that's what helped get them 4 stars. I went thru the drive thru on a Tuesday afternoon. The lady on the register was nice. She appeared to be the manager. She gave me my food and I was on my way. I got home and tried the burrito first. On Friday 9/8/2023 around 11:42 am we were at the drive through getting food after I paid for the food the cashier stood at the drive thru window with her hands fold as if she was angry with the customers and did not like her job. We went in to report it and the employee said she was one of the managers. What I picked up from it every time is it's always Hispanics working there and do not associating with other races. This has happened on multiple occasions and definitely is unacceptable to the customers. If she doesn't like people or her job she shouldn't work with the public. I tried Del Taco for the first time (ever) a couple months ago, and it wasn't bad at all. I'd say it is a little pricey for what you get, and the "combo" doesn't come with any sides, only a drink. I tried the Cali Steak & Guac burrito, and my boyfriend tried the Carne Asada Burrito. We both agreed the meat was pretty tasty, and they were pretty thick. Only wish is it came with maybe some chips and salsa? or some fries. Another thing is we decided to order from the Drive Thru, and they took forever. We were the only ones in line and it them took about 15 min for 2 burritos. Everything was fresh, and hot, but still seems kinda excessive for a fast food place. A friend and I hit the Golds about 1.5 week ago across the street. They were literally one of the few gyms open in the ENTIRE metro area during this Covid mayhem. When we left, he grabbed Del Taco and was bragging about how good it was. A few of my Cali friends often talk about it, so I figured what the hell... Now, the restaurant does appear quite trendy and well kept so that's a plus. For a Del Taco Virgin, It has an appearance of perhaps a more "authentic" fast food taco. When I drove to the drive thru I had to wait a good 2 minutes before I decided to say, "Hello", and somebody responded and told me to "Hold On". No biggie.... "Coronavirus!" .... I ordered (2) Fish Tacos and upgraded the fries to Queso Loaded. I got a Cherry Coke to drink and the bill came to about $12. Quite Pricey if you ask me.... The wait for the food was quite long. Def waited not quite 10 minutes but close to it. Remember, I already waited at the speaker and now the window. I was the only car in the drive-thru ,may I add..... When the food arrived I got my Cherry Coke which wasn't filled to the rim. I thought of getting it filled up but didn't wanna be petty but honestly really thought about it.... She apologized for the wait and said there was an extra taco in the bag! I smiled and said Thanks. That made up for the drink being 3/4 full ... When I got home I was disappointed. The food was COLD?!? So what was the wait about??? Also, the taste just wasn't there. The fish in the tacos are not as plump and the tortilla is corn. I prefer flour. Not sure If I could have changed that, but It gave it a distinct taste. The taco does come with a lime wedge, so that adds some flavor while eating. The "free" taco she gave me was very delicious. Even while typing this It seems like this is the type of place where you stick to the basics...Anything outside a taco or burrito will be a FAIL.... The loaded fries were good as well. Coated properly with Queso meat and Jalapeno. Again, served cold.... But I did microwave for about 20 seconds and that did the trick. In all, I will visit again and try more basic items... ground beef or chicken tacos/burritos. Those items may taste ALOT better. The fish taco was pleasantly good flavor and texture wise. I do not like their "beef" Del Taco because it was overloaded with "cheese" and the meat as well as the cheese tasted insanely artificial. I have mixed feelings, I love Del Taco and was a regular stop when I lived in California so I was ecstatic when they opened this location. However, they have not lived up to their name. When they first opened they were painstakingly slow. So bad so I could have went to a Mex restaurant and had a sit down service faster but figured they'd improve with time. And OMG whatever you do don't ask for any +/- to something their POS system is not setup for that, for instance I asked for my 10 tacos with out the special sauce and order taker looked like they had to reprogram the system (according to the server they have to go into each taco and add the request to each one ‍), I stopped asking because it was such an ordeal every time and most of the time they'd put the sauce on then anyway. So, between the long wait and the consultant mistakes I'd often skipped them and go elsewhere. This visit I was really wanting some Del Taco and went through the drive-through expecting the typical long wait, but to my surprise they were very quick; I thought they must have finally fixed some things, but when I got home they tacos were so so so sloppy, a lump of cheese on one end, lump of meat in the middle and all the sauce on the other end, and so inconsistently made. If I wanted sloppy, messy slapped together crap, I would of gone to Taco Bell! This place has squandered a great opportunity with fantastic location, so disappointing! We have in the past liked the quick dash they've the drive through to get tacos, and they've been delicious, but since Christmas the Google and Bing maps websites say they're open, but they're dark when you drive by, so they're simply not taking responsibility to update the maps or leave a notice on them stating what's going on. This Del Taco recently opened up, previously it was the pollo tropical. I understand it's new but the service here is horrible most of the time. I have gave it a chance multiple times but I still prefer Taco Bell. The employees will leave the cash register unattended and you can hear employees saying "who's working the register? This location is newly opened. Ive visited two other locations in Atlanta and expected the same here, which was accurate. Since they are newly opened there was alot of activity and employees having to assist each other bit they were getting things done. I even threw them a curve as I usually special order something (make a chili cheese burrito out of bean and cheese by dropping beans and add chilI). Took them a little more time to find it on their computer terminal but was able to do it. The service was fast and polite and the food was good as usual. The Del is much better than the Bell. The service and food is so much better and the bean burrito is larger and open at the end and about 10 inches long whereas at the Bell they close each end leaving you with a 5 or 6 inch burrito with mostly tortilla to eat. I am not sure what is up with this building but from day one this building is plagued with horrible customer service and this Del Taco is no exception. They lock their doors and apparently only doing drive thru. I work in the complex and decided to walk instead of drive the 100 feet for lunch. Doors are locked tight and no signs stating why. OMG!!! I am absolutely in love with this place! Because absolutely beautiful since it's brand spanking new. The Duluth Hwy location has some of the friendliest staff and best manager I've ever met in a fast food location. The service and how they dote on you when you enter also blew me away!
