They also give you a trio of dips, red sauce, the dark sauce and cheese dip with a basket of chips that's complimentary and they charge for a refill. The 4 of us loved that and made quick work of eating it up! We were celebrating 3 birthdays but I was the only one that had signed up on Toast and I received a $15 coupon and a free new hat! Our server was fabulous and I think he's been there since the beginning and seen many changes. Since it's so close to my house I've seen the changes too. I ordered shredded beef flautas. One flauta had no meat, and the other flauata had only one piece of shredded beef that was barely big enough to be considered more than a taste. The chicken quesadilla my husband had was fine. When I ordered on line, I was told the restaurant would contact me when they received my order, no one contacted me that they had my order until it was time to pick up. I love coming here. Been several times over the years. I may have had an "off" experience once but for the most part they're great. Visited earlier this week & had a good server. Attentive with the chips (as was the manager who was walking through checking on tables) & with our refills. Everyone enjoyed their food. The food has no taste. It is almost hospital food. I ordered Carnitas Michoacán and my wife Shrimp Fajita. We also ordered two beef soups. Everything tasted bland. I am almost sure that instead of frying, they just boiled the pork for my dish. On the positive side, the place is very clean and the staff is very nice. The only thing about this place is that I never really feel super comfortable with the service. No one has ever truly treated us bad nor have they been super rude but I feel like the hostesses up front are always more concentrated in their personal conversation than the people. I've eaten at several of the Fronteras. We just moved to the Lawrenceville area and decided to try the one there. Very disappointed. The wait staff was not attentive, we never got refills of salsa and he only half attended to us at all. He seemed very unfamiliar with the cocktails we ordered and we had to repeat them to him several times and point to the menu for him to understand. I ordered the pick 3 with refried beans. The beans were clumpy, dry and tasted soured. My cheese enchiladas barely had cheese in them and of course were sitting in the bad beans. The only good thing was my drink, the smoked margarita. Wow. We decided to go to Frontera after having a few less-than-ideal experiences at the local On The Borders (our normal sit-down/fast-food/chain mexican standby). Frontera IS a chain, we knew that and set our expectations accordingly, but what we ended up with was just an awful lunch experience that we won't ever repeat. First, they sit us at an unclean booth. The table was slightly on the grungy side and the bench was ... well ... "wet" when I sat down. I'm not sure what it was wet with, but I brushed it (and the table) off with some napkins. Next, they messed up one of my friend's orders - she asked for soft tacos, they brought out two hard shell tacos. She sent them back and ten minutes later brought out the proper replacements - but these tacos had been ... I'm not sure ... emptied. They had about half the filling of the previous tacos and had no cheese, lettuce or anything other than a tablespoon of beef in each one. My other friend ordered a "MY QUESADILLA". I'll quote the menu description from their website for you: "Flour tortilla quesadilla stuffed with cheese & chicken served with lettuce, sour cream, guacamole & pico de gallo." Really sounds quite nice for a simple lunch if you're just looking for a light quesadilla. Here's what we got -- two flour tortillas, an ice cream scoop shaped bunch of shredded chicken plopped dead center -- no cheese (we're not sure what was holding the tortilla's together) and the other fixings were in a little bowl placed on top. I concur with my friend's opinion that the chicken came out of a jar ... it had that saline taste to it. So to sum up - unclean setting, messed up order, bad tasting food and the general consensus that the most pleasant part of the meal was the opening chips and salsa. read more

Frontera is a welcome change from chain Mexican restaurants. You don't get such hefty portions as you'd receive at Moe's but, the food tastes so authentic (or what I assume is authentic). It's so good! The dish to eat if you're really hungry is "Burrito Al Carbon". The thing is HUGE! I usually stick with the taco. Basically, anything you choose here will satisfy your palate.
