Money-saving tip: Skip the expensive excursions and take the Juneau Capital Transit bus from downtown to Dredge Lake Rd., which is the closest bus stop to Mendenhall. From there, it's about a 1.7-mile walk to the Visitor Center, followed by an easy 1.5-mile hike to Nugget Falls. The trail is well maintained and suitable for most people. The bus costs just $2 each way. Be sure to bring exact change or download the Token Transit app from the App Store to pay your fare. The bus system was easy to navigate, and we had no trouble figuring it out. In my opinion, this is one of the best values in Juneau. You get the same incredible glacier views and unforgettable experience that many people pay hundreds of dollars for on organized excursions. If you're comfortable walking a few miles, this is absolutely the way to do it!

Visitor center has an elevator to the 2nd floor that provides insight, views, and toilets. If in Juneau via a cruise ship you can access the park via both shore excursions and tour operators. No real complications on May 5, on that clear dry day, though 5 cruise ships were in port making the park entrance busy with both tourists and transports. It was a nice way to see a glacier, but the initial park area was crowded, so do not expect to escape from the bustle of tourists unless you explore deeper into the park.

This shop had some items at a good price some items at a high price a lot of items at average prices and well a typical staff from what I found traipsing all over in Alaska. Definitely a place that I stopped at right away when I got off of my cruise to check prices at and returned to get a couple of items at the end of the day that were cheaper here than elsewhere. Unlike some other reviewers I had no problem with the staff whatsoever. In fact I was given appropriate help with a smile so I am not sure what their issues were. I would stop here again, but only if I needed certain products and they had them at the right price for me. But swag shops are swag shops and they did have a huge selection here. So keep that in mind if you are Cruising the inside passage.

The girl at the counter, showed a lack of consideration being that the tourist is what's helping their livelihood. Here's the kicker, my wife left her camera (Canon T6i) on the counter. The girl didn't say anything, we got back on the ship; no camera. we tried and the Cruise ship tried to help to no resolution. I would suggest, be careful take your sweet time while shopping. Do not allow anyone pressure you into moving any faster than you need. Just be careful, it wasn't a good experience shopping at this location.

I first came across these unique pins at Elliott Bay Books, in Seattle, and immediately fell in love with their quirky designs. Sure, they have the usual flowers and birds for your grandma... but they also have body parts and organs, syringes and beakers, deck chairs and masted tallships, skeletons and whiskey bottles! The pins are intricately patterned and made by hand. You really have to see them up close to appreciate the detail, but these aren't shoddy made-in-China tie tacks. The high-quality craftsmanship is obvious, and I get tons of compliments on mine. Most of the designs also come as zipper pulls if you're not a pin person. Their website is no-frills, but easy to browse and purchase from, and each item has a funny description - you can tell they are serious about their work but have a sense of humor. And the pins are amazingly affordable - most are about $12 and I didn't see anything over $20! You'd pay just as much for some mass-produced trash at a chain store. Shipping is a flat $3 per order and it's FAST. I even got a follow-up email from the company thanking me for my purchase! Even if you're not headed to Alaska anytime soon, if you like fun, unique jewelry with a slightly dark sense of humor, check out William Spear's awesome stuff.
