Introducing the horses for the race.
    Lauren L.

Loved this step back into time for a fun day at the races! Family fun and a great way to gather with friends or to make new ones!

    Hats, outfits and fabulous people!

Del Mar is always a delightful venue for races, food, and wine events. It's beautifully surrounded by greenery as well as fabulous people. Never a dull moment! One of the great things as well is that you're minutes away from Downtown Del Mar which is a must for dining, cocktails, and entertainment! Highly recommend!

Always fun! I have two friends who is a member of the turf club and always sends an invite every opening day or any other day of the races... it's always fun! I love their truffle fries, it's the best finger food to nibble while enjoying your drinks watching the race... we also ordered their cheeseboard and burgers, etc. Foods and drinks are expensive. One margarita drink is $30, for a glass of beer is $22 plus tip...pricey! But the race is fun! My favorite time to come is the opening day because everyone is on their best fit and lots of beautiful hats!

DEL MAR RACETRACK @ DEL MAR First time here at the Del Mar Racing! It is $10 for general parking and $30 for valet parking. There is A LOT of space, so you'll definitely get a spot. There is also a tram that takes you closer to the racing and or back to your parking lot section. I booked my tickets in advance for my friend and I, it was about $80 for both tickets. What's the worst part is that we found out College Day was FREE admissions for students!! I wish Del Mar racing had this more advertised. The place itself was huge, there were hundreds of people, and they had all sorts of bars and clubs that you could go to. The ambiance overall was clean, but did heavily smell like Horse. However, if you also know how to gamble, it is definitely an activity that would recommend! The horse names are extremely funny!

Pleasantly surprised on how easy it was to get a box online $23 a person per seat. You can bring a cooler with foods no alcohol . Sit back and enjoy and watch the races. The food at the concessions are still not up to my liking ... I feel they really should do individual charcuterie boards. People would love that. We did find a kettle corn vendor right before you go into the races and that was very nice . Drinks are $$$ I recommend spending your time in the shade if you can. GA is standing, 100% Sun All the folks that work at the Delmar racetrack are incredibly friendly .... Go! bet! Have fun!

Group in stretch run in the fall for a birthday celebration
    Allison L.

Opening weekend to the summer races we reserved 3 tables in the stretch run. We had a close up view of the track, table service, and plenty of shade. If you like the Turf Club but don't want to have to wear a suit the stretch run is the place to be. In the summer try to get a table in the shade. A hat is recommended if you are not in the shade. In the fall bring a jacket. It gets cold and windy. Colder than some might expect. Layers are your friend.

Delightful Saturday afternoon with friends in the Turf Club for drinks, lunch, and 11 races ... OK we missed the first two. Our table was directly over the Finish Line ... high enough to see the entire tracks, both dirt and turf. This was the last Saturday of the Bing Crosby Season (aka Fall Meet). Food was unremarkable; drinks were very good; service was good; betting windows very convenient with excellent/friendly cashiers. The overall experience was outstanding.

    Audrey L.

Came here this past weekend to watch the horse races! Although my betting skills can use some work, I still had a blast! We had a couple tables at the stretch run. The sun was intense, but being able to order at the table with a server was great. Our server Susie was on it! She checked in with us regularly and recommended some apps. The shrimp cocktail was delicious, but the pretzel bites were the star.

Del Mar is where the turf meets the surf -- beautiful seaside vibes and the energy of the races make it an unforgettable outing. We placed a few bets...and happily, we won! A great day of racing, cheering, and pure excitement. Highly recommend for a fun, spirited experience with friends.

Free and Easy Thursday is a great day to visit the track. Free admission if you have the Diamond Card (you can sign up at the racetrack)and then can use the card for 1/2 off Michelob ultra and discount on hotdogs. Friend got great reserved seats in the shade and steps to do your betting and not busy at all. Had a great 4th race which the winnings paid for my day at the track. Also great day to hangout with my buddy.

Vacationing in Del Mar, you have to go at least once even if horse racing is not your cup of tea. My friend and I and not gamblers. We went to the track for a "Taco and Tequila" event last August. We liked the track, inside was clean, we even placed a couple bets on a horse race which was fun to see. The actual Taco and Tequila festival was horrible $76.00 for 2 tickets, 1 stars at best. The tequila sampling were all pre-made out of the machines, way too sweet concoctions. They did have one tequila company there serving real samples with the longest line because they were the only company doing it. The taco truck "Big Boyz Tacos" was a joke, we waited in line to finally get up to the front place our order and paid for (2) 3 taco Combo (your choice of meats or potato) to be told when they were putting our orders together all they had left was the dried up pork which I didn't want. Mind you, this was midway through the event. We are glad we went to the race track to see once, disappointed on the event, would never go back.

DEL MAR Racetrack Opening Day 2024
    Henri V.

Opening Day 2024 at the Del Mar race track in Del Mar was the event not to miss. Tickets were sold out but I was among the lucky ones to get an invite entry into the Turf Club, where the dress code is enforced, jackets required for men! And if you're like me and don't want to put more miles on your Louboutins, Valet parking was available for a fee of course. It was my third time at Del Mar race track but my first time at Opening Day, which is the first race on the season. Del Mar race track is beautiful, with the beach nearby, the weather was cooler with marine layer clouds, perfect for the horses. The racing guide and other reading programs with expert's daily picks can help you decide on which horses to place your bet on. Betting combinations always fascinated me: Exactas, Boxed, Trifectas, Win, Place, Show, Quinella and Superfecta are just examples, but there are more exotic wagering combinations lol Make sure you walk down to the area known as the paddock, where the horses, trainers and staffers prep the horses before the jockeys mount the horse. You can admire the horses closer and notice any unique qualities that can sway you into wagering a bet on that horse. When I see a horse make eye contact with Me and actually wink at Me, I will place a bet on that horse to win, lol...sometimes I actually win! Other times, I take into consideration many factors: the horse's winning track record, who the trainer is, whether it will have a winning jockey, and whether I like the colors the horse and jockey are sporting. The point is, there is No exact formula to chose a winner, anything is possible, even Long shots with unfavorable odds can take the win. It's fun to see the spectacular Hat Contest. Hats are creatively designed and decorated flamboyantly with colors and materials to match the wearer's personality. There are many areas that serve food and drinks. The Turf Club and The Club House are both restaurant style with servers. There are other areas that are food stands that offer casual food and drinks. On big events like Opening Day, it was so crowded everywhere and service was a tad slow even at the turf club :( Once we got our food and drinks, Laissez les Bons Temps Rouler!! Whether is Opening Day or not, a day at the Del Mar Racetrack is worth a visit. Recommend!

Upon walking in for derby day ladies were given a rose and seated in front of a ton of screens where one can check out races from all over. Being from the Bay I get super excited about seeing races at Golden Gate Fields where my dad would take me as a kid. Food took awhile but it was pretty good. They have surprisingly huge salads that made me wish I had ordered one! Being exceedingly annoying AND a veggie I was happy when our waitress was able to wrangle up a veggie burger for me! I ended up eating way too much. Drinks are basic but why are you ordering that piña collada with muddled chocolate mint at such a place anyway? Save that habit for people like me... Unknown amongst the younger set I can see this spot being a fun place to do up the races in a style that is as authentic as it is interesting. Just think twice before inviting Camilla the Yelping Hen, she is not so great at losing. I forgot to mention the super cool Yelp Booth and thank Trish. It was something I would not have done without Yelp and I am thankful for the chance!

Fairgoers are obviously not…read moregoing to be getting anything out of here other than a parking lot, so ignore those reviews if you're interested in the park itself. Del Mar Horse Park recently reopened in 2023 after an overhaul and remodel, and now it's easily one of the prettiest and nicest showground venues in SoCal. It's not necessarily massive, but it hosts a grand-prix grass arena used in big jumper classes, and around eight smaller outdoor dirt/sand arenas for anything else. There's also a very nice covered arena right next to everything else, which makes rain season easy to deal with for riders and spectators. The viewing areas are really nice and well-placed, though you're welcome to bring your own chairs or picnic blankets to watch shows on the grass field if you're not feeling the chairs and stands they have. Parking is really nice and everywhere around the grounds, and trailer parking is near the stall blocks on both ends of the park, so unloading horses is quick. As for the stalls themselves, they're nice and usually even at big shows there are surplus empty stalls. Rooms are provided on the stall blocks for dressing rooms/tack rooms, and outdoor washing cross ties are scattered around the place near the blocks. Pretty much everywhere you go there will be either a nice bathroom or a shockingly well kept porta-potty + hand washing station, many of which are situated right next to stall blocks so that stable teams always have access regardless of spectators. There's a nice little cafe area that serves good food and good drinks pretty much all day during show season, and it's right next to the grand prix arena and primary stable blocks. Pretty affordable and very easy, with seating. Usually during show season there will also be booths and trailers set up along the walkway with vendors of tack and apparel, and during bigger shows you'll sometimes see the showground crew hosting community events, like mural painting. Obviously, the showgrounds are going to be pretty inactive during the winter season aside from a few dressage competitions, and during the summer when the fair is going most horse shows will be held at the fair's horse park, hence why visitors seem to think the place is empty, lol. Most shows are held in the late summer to early winter season, and the most activity will happen in the fall. Almost every show is entirely free to attend, including some of the grand prix events, which is pretty insane for how good of a view spectators can get of everything. Spectators are welcome to walk around the grounds and watch any of the arenas, regardless of how much you know of equestrianism. Most of us at the shows will be happy to talk about our sports and our horses with any visitors looking to spend a day at the show :).

This is what it is a big dirt lot with a few old stables and plenty of places to park I really can't see any other reason for this other then it's a place to park as if I had a horse I sure would not keep them here! If your planning on coming here for the fair you can also catch the shuttle to the fair as it's usually a school bus or a double decker bus for you to ride on that takes you straight to the front gate! The bus's can be a bit of a mission to find if you haven't been here before so just follow others and they will take you to where you get picked up! Fair employees get priority boarding and get to cut the line as this shuttle is for them anyway so if you work at the fair definitely take advantage of that just show your badge. Overall the fair is almost over and then this spot will be forgotten about but until then I'm parking in the horse park!
