i have never been here before but was lucky enough to be treated to comped entrance, a private table and lunch! what a sweet treat...i even had a plus one who apparently has "lived" at the track since she was old enough. Seriously everyone in there seemed to know her! So since i had no clue how to bet or even read the racing papers...she gave me a run down...this could get really addicting! we bet on a couple races ...lost them both, but it was fun! i had a giant cobb salad as my lunch...it was ridiculously big! but it was oh so yummy! had a couple cocktails..first a vodka press...yum...goes down like water for me...then i had to try a mint Julep...mmmm it was tasty but way too sweet for me. i'm sure i could request it to be less sweet now that i've tried one. totally chill day with a whole new scenery for me. good times! hope to be back soon

I had been to the Del Mar races before, however my first time.at the Surfside Race Place was an even better option for checking out the races. When you walk in you are surrounded by TV's and tables. Great for individuals and for groups. I happened to be part of a group of 10. And this easily is a place to accommodate us. Our server Karen was GREAT! Not only were we able to watch the Breeders Cup, place some bets. But we also enjoyed watching some football on the TVs. Enjoyed a good amount of food at a reasonable price. The prices ranged around $8-15 with the portion sizes being fairly large. Drink prices were also reasonable. I had a handy guide given to me on the ways to bet..and a list of horses. The betting was done easily enough. Surrounded by TV's = check Awesome food= check Reasonable Prices = check Good Customer Service = check This place is definitely worth checking out when going to Del Mar and not just for the horse races They offer a fantastic venue to watch sports on multiple TVs. And I saw a sign that they even host a Bingo night!! My inner B I N G O wants to scream out and grab a dabber to blot out some Bingo numbers! I am totally coming back to this place now that I have been introduced to this place. Thanks Trish S for introducing me to this place!

I have been to Del Mar before but have never been here to watch the horse races. Today i was able to be a part of a CMYE event for the Breeders Cup. Apparently it is the Super Bowl of horse racing. It was quite entertaining to be able to sit at a table and watch all the different horse races going on as well as the cheering of the crowd when the race was happening and then the silence when they were getting ready for another race. I'm so happy that i was given a card slider thing that told you how to place your bets and what each bet meant. This made it easy to go up to the window and place your bet and then wait to see if the horse won. We had quick and friendly service from Karen who took really good care of our table. The food was delicious with large portions and reasonable prices. I will definitely be back to the Surfside Race Place and try my luck again. Thanks to Trish for putting a lovely afternoon together with great conversation and to the staff for making it a fun Saturday.

Great place to watch the races off season. I wouldn't be hanging here when the track was in session though. All you need here, great bartenders, bars and tons of TV's. Decent food. Great patio where you can watch horses. Best of all, you can bet on all the races all over the country as well as watch the races.. My girlfriend had a cobb salad she loved and I can attest, it looked amazing. It was huge too. We went as guest for a Yelp event. They hosted us a large table in front of about 5 tv screens and fed us lunch. The cocktails we took care of. I had a vodka press that was good. People at our table had the mint juleps which in my opinion I'd skip. They are more nostalgic for the races as opposed to being really yummy. My friends were out on the patio smoking cigars and betting, and more friends inside betting. A great gathering place. All good for off season!

We love going to the Surfside race place. I would recommend going to the Saddleclub they have such good service and excellent waitresses and bartenders. The food is excellent. Also the staff at the betting windows are very helpful and courteous. Be sure to join the diamond club to get lots of bonuses.

I was one of the lucky 10 that got invited by Trish for the CMYE event for the Breeders Cup! It was my first time in the Surfside building and it was so great! It was cool Vegas style betting with screens at every turn! Gambling people are a special kind of people. The energy is buzzing and people are cheering when they win, cursing when they are loosing and drinking all the way in between! Our hostess/waitress was so nice and made sure that our needs were met with drinks and food which is always appreciated. They will be closing for a bit to remodel and gave us tickets to come back so I am super stoked to go back on December 3rd and check out the new digs.

At the racetrack, celebrating my birthday.

Del Mar Racetrack is a must when visiting San Diego and is such a fun experience. My friends and I usually take the Amtrak train from Orange County to Del Mar station, they have shuttles to take you from the train to the venue for free which is nice. Dress to impress as well, they have a dress code but not too many people follow it. Some people go all out with suits, dresses and fancy dress wear. Tickets are affordable and they have a variety of ticket packages to choose from, we usually sit in GA area. As for the venue itself, its beautiful from the outside and the track is well maintained. If you look from the balcony, you can see the ocean! It's pretty confusing in my opinion to navigate each floor and where to find food concessions. They need to upgrade the building and rennovate the interior. The food here isn't too good but Tanner's Prime Burgers is a must. Betting is also confusing so I would recommend looking up a Youtube vid or ask some people around the stadium on how to do it. When in doubt, hammer Fresu, Rispoli, Berrios or Hernandez!

Fairgoers are obviously not…read moregoing to be getting anything out of here other than a parking lot, so ignore those reviews if you're interested in the park itself. Del Mar Horse Park recently reopened in 2023 after an overhaul and remodel, and now it's easily one of the prettiest and nicest showground venues in SoCal. It's not necessarily massive, but it hosts a grand-prix grass arena used in big jumper classes, and around eight smaller outdoor dirt/sand arenas for anything else. There's also a very nice covered arena right next to everything else, which makes rain season easy to deal with for riders and spectators. The viewing areas are really nice and well-placed, though you're welcome to bring your own chairs or picnic blankets to watch shows on the grass field if you're not feeling the chairs and stands they have. Parking is really nice and everywhere around the grounds, and trailer parking is near the stall blocks on both ends of the park, so unloading horses is quick. As for the stalls themselves, they're nice and usually even at big shows there are surplus empty stalls. Rooms are provided on the stall blocks for dressing rooms/tack rooms, and outdoor washing cross ties are scattered around the place near the blocks. Pretty much everywhere you go there will be either a nice bathroom or a shockingly well kept porta-potty + hand washing station, many of which are situated right next to stall blocks so that stable teams always have access regardless of spectators. There's a nice little cafe area that serves good food and good drinks pretty much all day during show season, and it's right next to the grand prix arena and primary stable blocks. Pretty affordable and very easy, with seating. Usually during show season there will also be booths and trailers set up along the walkway with vendors of tack and apparel, and during bigger shows you'll sometimes see the showground crew hosting community events, like mural painting. Obviously, the showgrounds are going to be pretty inactive during the winter season aside from a few dressage competitions, and during the summer when the fair is going most horse shows will be held at the fair's horse park, hence why visitors seem to think the place is empty, lol. Most shows are held in the late summer to early winter season, and the most activity will happen in the fall. Almost every show is entirely free to attend, including some of the grand prix events, which is pretty insane for how good of a view spectators can get of everything. Spectators are welcome to walk around the grounds and watch any of the arenas, regardless of how much you know of equestrianism. Most of us at the shows will be happy to talk about our sports and our horses with any visitors looking to spend a day at the show :).

Not much more than a big dirt parking lot use it to avoid paying a fee to park at the fair!…read more They make the employees park here too but it seems like everyone just parks here to avoid paying one extra parking fee which I totally get as I would do the same thing! This is what it is a big dirt lot with a few old stables and plenty of places to park I really can't see any other reason for this other then it's a place to park as if I had a horse I sure would not keep them here! If your planning on coming here for the fair you can also catch the shuttle to the fair as it's usually a school bus or a double decker bus for you to ride on that takes you straight to the front gate! The bus's can be a bit of a mission to find if you haven't been here before so just follow others and they will take you to where you get picked up! Fair employees get priority boarding and get to cut the line as this shuttle is for them anyway so if you work at the fair definitely take advantage of that just show your badge. Overall the fair is almost over and then this spot will be forgotten about but until then I'm parking in the horse park!
