We've been bringing our cars - including a 28yo Jeep plus newer vehicles - here for several years. Most times, it's been routine maintenance but sometimes it's been more significant. DMCC has always taken the time to explain issues they've discovered and the repairs they recommend. And the work is always done carefully, thoroughly, and properly. I stopped in on a Tuesday afternoon (with an appointment) I was told they book out at least a week usually on the phone. They were very busy, but helped me right away and took my car in to have the alignment done. They finished with my car within about 30-40 minutes. Shawn went over and reviews everything with me regarding my car's alignment and other issues noticed during the process. Where do I start they overcharge, don't fix the problem, are rude on the phone and don't want to be bothered to explain why they are charging thousands to fix your car that is not really fixed when you get it back. Incredibly rude when a simple question is asked they just want to be paid. Which is usually thousands. I took it here so many times and finally took it to the dealership to get my car fixed properly after getting ripped off to the tune of over $10,000 without fixing the problems it had and I definitely won't go back. We have been using Del Mar Car Care since the early 2000s--throughout that time we have had six different cars. Every step of the way, Del Mar Car Care has provided excellent service, advice, and insight at affordable prices. Most of the work we have done has been basic maintenance, but inevitably there will be problems that crop up. Our most recent issue was representative of the sound advice DM Car Care gives us, as well as their integrity. A known defect in our engine (but no recall initiated) required a very expensive repair. DM Car Care spent a lot of time figuring this out and ultimately suggested we take the car to the dealer because it was 6 months out of warranty but only had 23,000 miles. They advised us to see if the manufacturer would provide a goodwill repair. The manufacturer did indeed give us a good deal on the repair. At all times, Del Mar Car Care went the extra mile to give us the information we needed, provide insight and support, and work in our best interest. Highly recommend! read more

Was referred to this shop to repair a damaged wheel stud from a recent visit to Discount Tire in Carmel Mountain. When I called the shop initially they were very busy and the person who sets appointments was unavailable so they took my phone number to call me back. About 15min later I receive a call back as promised and was able set the earliest appointment available on a day that fit my busy schedule. I arrived promptly for my appointment and discovered that customer parking is extremely limited. I managed to park in the dirt area to the left of the shop. The shop's office is closed due to COVID-19 precautions. They open an office window when staff is available to speak with customers. Customers complete a form on the front of an envelope and place their keys inside. A mail slot is located at the corner of the office and is used to drop off the envelopes as a safety precaution for staff. It's a creative way to keep everyone separated and safe. If you are getting your car serviced here it should be noted that there is no place for customers to wait since the office is closed. Thankfully I had already decided I would walk to nearby Torrey Pines State Preserve for a bit of exercise. There are also hiking trails nearby should walking along the beach not be your thing. I was called once my repair was completed and walked up to the open office window to receive my keys AFTER my car was wiped down for added safety. I was given a detailed receipt and even spoke with a mechanic who explained all of the additional findings noted and recommended. Overall I am impressed, not only with the safety precautions taken by this shop, but their efficiency and detailed work. I plan calling them soon to get a quote for some of the recommendations made. read more

We were on a long road trip back home to LA when our skid plate suddenly came loose on the freeway and started dragging on the ground (scary!). We happened to drive by Del Mar Car Care and stopped in -- even though all the mechanics were busy, the owner was kind enough to use his one available lift to take a look under our car. He graciously advised us on what we should do next and removed the broken plate for us at no charge so that we could safely drive home. I stopped in to their office to see if they could use their check engine device on my car. Three workers were inside and not one greeted me. When one man finally looked up from his cell phone I asked if he could help me. " Not today, I'm busy closing up shop checking on my workers." It was 3pm. I asked if I could borrow their device, easy enough to use. Met with an angry " I'm not going to let you use our $12, 000.00 machine". I said I didn't know they don't use the popular handheld device. If they own a 12k check engine device my first thought was how many customers were overcharged to pay for it. I used this place many times for 25plus years but with the previous owner. DMCC was recommended after another shop indicated the car I had just bought needed an entirely new engine. For only $150, they confirmed the same thing. I totally forgot about this place, but I'm waiting for my car to be worked on elsewhere and looking back, around 1000 dollars to get brake pads and rotors changed in 2017 on a 2004 Jetta probably wasn't a great deal. Have been going there for years. They are honest and back their work up. Example: radiator had to be replaced. New one developed a leak. Replaced with no problems. Another time after a service I had asked for new windshield blades. On invoice they didn't charge. When brought to their attention: no charge- your a good customer. Like these people! read more

In looking for a new shop for preventative maintenance and (as needed) repairs, I was able to directly dialog with Shaun about transitioning my 10 year old vehicle to his care. While the dealer did a fine job throughout the years, I felt it was time to have my needs serviced by a shop where there is a sense that my automobile will be serviced with a fine tooth comb. The experience I had at Del Mar Car Care the other day not only restored my faith in auto repair shops, but in all of humanity! Last November I bought new tires for my car and went to Del Mar Car Care for an alignment. Recently in July, I went to the dealership were I bought my car (not mentioning the name) for a 30k service and they told me that my car was out of alignment, said they could do it for me. I told them I just had it done 7 months ago and have been really careful with it. Well, they said, we show it's way out of alignment. I told them to hold off (thankfully), and made an appointment with Del Mar Car Care where Bill said he'd put it up on the rack and check it. I figured there's no way they're going to put it up on the rack and not charge me for another alignment. I sat outside at Del Mar Car Care while they put it up on the rack feeling like they had me by the short hairs. Then Bill comes walking out smiling with the computer read out showing my car was still in the same perfect alignment that they put it in 7 months ago. NO CHARGE!
