This food truck frequently comes to my job. I have visited it a time or two and have been satisfied with my selections each time. During my most recent visit, I have the Shrimp Po'boy with a side of fries. The flavors were great and the fries were nice and crispy. My other complaint is the costs....the menu items are a bit pricey compared to the portion sizes. Other than that, this is a solid food truck! read more

My bf bought me the crawfish etouffe. The food was beyond bland. I tried to add creole seasoning, old bay, & garlic powder. The food was still not good even after adding different seasonings. I'm upset that I forced myself to keep eating the food. I will not eat from the food truck again. Side note my bf did enjoy the jerk wings. read more

Meaux meaux would roll in her grave if she had this. It was the worst gumbo I have ever paid for. I am confident that it came out of a box and there was nothing to it other than a very small amount of meat and thin "broth". No onions, celery, or peppers. It was bland as bland could be. Calling this food truck Cajun is a scam, and I doubt they know what a roux even is. It was edible and I'm sure counted as a meal but I think your average high school cafeteria could whip up something better. Worst 17$ I've ever spent at a food truck. read more

It was just ok. Visited this food truck during the Severna Park Tuesday nigh event. Ordered two shrimp po boys. I'm giving it three stars for the plump shrimp but it just wasn't worth the money IMO. $13 each and the bread was meh..Just nothing special. I will go back and try the gumbo, maybe. Or, the shrimp and grits. They should offer an oyster po' boy. read more

Deja Roux - Food truck photo - Food Trucks Near Me - Gambrills, Maryland

Went here yesterday for the Odenton Fire House Food Truck Thursday, the staff was very kind. However, we got gumbo and jambalaya. I wish I would have taken a picture of the jambalaya. It looked like mushy, reheated rice and meat. It tasted horribly, like it was reheated and not fresh; no seasoning or flavor. Unfortunately, Zataran's boxed jambalaya was much better than this jambalaya. Then, we tasted the gumbo and the base taste was horrendous, where it tasted almost like Sherry wine and plastic. All this to say, we spent $30.00 and the food was practically inedible. We just threw it away. Very disappointed. read more

Been trying to get some Deja Roux for about a year and a half now. It just wasn't happening for me. Fortunately I was driving on 175 and saw the food trucks set up at the fire house. I got out my car and made a dash straight to Deja Roux. Sad to say that I got hyped for a true dud. You look at the reviews on Yelp, and you're like how can this not be good. The food looks absolutely amazing. Sad thing is that you can't taste looks. The shrimp and grits were pretty average, though they look like they'd be the bomb. The gumbo didn't have much flavor and why don't they serve any seafood gumbo? I actually took some food home to my mother who loves, loves, loves creole cuisine, and she got upset with me and acted as if I had completely wasted her time... She got hyped for a dud too... The people running the truck were really nice, and just everything about the experience was terrific, until it came to eating the food. Now let me say that the food was not terrible, but rather bland for my taste. From my experience with Loiusiana they never come short on taste down there. This is just my personal opinion though, because there are people who like this place. I'd just be careful about how loosely we throw around the word authentic... read more

(This visit is from October of 2021) - Deja Roux is almost always at the Food Truck Friday spot at the Farmer's Market in Annapolis. After a recommendation from one of the customers at the market, my dad and I decided to place an order. While we were looking at the menu, my dad mentioned he hadn't had red beans and rice for years. The man inside the truck gave us a sample, which was nice. We both enjoyed it. I decided to order the red beans and rice with sausage. My dad opted for a shrimp po' boy. The man in the truck said he wasn't open yet (it was about 10 minutes before the market officially opened) but that he would take our order anyway. The truck opened about 25 minutes late. There was a group of three women who came to the truck two or three times to order and eventually went to another truck because they still weren't open. It took another 20 minutes to get our food. I don't know what kind of issues they were having, but the man did apologize for the wait and gave us a peach cobbler on the house. I enjoyed my red beans and rice. The sausage had a bit of a kick and I enjoyed the seasonings and flavors. My dad thought the po' boy was just okay. It tasted fine, but said he wouldn't get it again. The bread was soft and had some lettuce, pickles, and sauce. The toppings were fresh. There were four decent sized shrimp total (two on each half). The shrimp had a lot of breading, which isn't my dad's favorite. Neither of my parents cared for the peach cobbler. I do appreciate them giving it to us on the house. They also offer cornbread, cajun fries, gumbo (chicken and sausage), shrimp and grits, shrimp etouffee, and jambalaya. Overall, I would certainly return for the red beans and rice. read more

Deja Roux's presentation is on-point. Staff is friendly and organized. However, the food is very bland--other than a crazy amount of spice (heat not flavor). It doesn't make for an enjoyable experience; and, therefore, is overpriced. read more

Size was SMALL... no value for $17.07. no sides, nothing but a napkin. Asked for hot sauce Saving grace was it tasted great. Utter failure in the one cup and 1/4 portion sizes (yes, I measured). Six small to medium shrimp. But $17.07 for 1 1/4 cup of food? Not again. Other reviews stated they got corn bread; when I asked, I was told no. read more

Deja Roux is a Cajun & Creole food truck offering a taste of Louisiana, based on their signage. They have a lot of New Orleans favorites: jambalaya, gumbo, and whatnot. My wife always has a hankering for Red Beans and Rice, and it is a good barometer of any Southern place's entire menu. The Red Beans & Rice had a very pronounced spicy burn, but no real flavor. It wasn't a deal breaker for me, although I think it was not helped that the beans were laid on top of a bed of plain white rice. My wife did not like them at all, though. Her favorite version still comes from a fast food chain that also has a French Connection, so maybe DR makes the mistake of actually caring about their customers' health and takes it easy on the salt and lard. Unfortunately, I think their Cornbread falls in that same boat. It definitely needs a boatload more butter or lard to keep it from being so dry (or maybe it sat for a long time, but it was dry and crumbly.) Napkins and utensils aren't automatically offered, and fortunately we checked our order before leaving and asked for a fork. I mention this because we also ordered a Boudin, a traditional Cajun sausage which was the star of the meal. The meat was incredibly soft but super spicy in a way that leapt out at you without hiding the flavor of the meat, and a bunch of those would have been amazing. The casing was far too tough and chewy, though. A knife would have helped to slice it up, as it is we had to tear it open with a fork to get at the meat as taking bites off the sausage was impossible. read more

I always know it's going to be a good day when I have the pleasure of stopping at this amazing gem! The service is amazing and the food is outstanding I love this place! I usually get the gumbo, shrimp and grits, boudin, or crawfish etouffe. The poboys are amazing but I'm trying to stay away from fried foods haha. Seriously just eat here and stop thinking about it read more

Deja Roux doesn't even deserve one star. The jambalaya was boxed Uncle Ben's at best. No self proclaimed creole style chef would leave out the cajun holy trinity (onions, bell pepper and fresh garlic) it's a creole MUST, yet they did. To say I was disappointed is an understatement, if I wanted a boxed food experience I would buy 99 cent rice at the grocery store. Don't forget the side dish of canned "No Seasoned" green beans I received with the lack luster rice. Cajun food should be served hot, bold, fresh and pack a punch to the taste buds and Deja Roux fell short on all fronts. read more

New Location: 923 Annapolis Rd, Gambrills, MD Deja Roux is a new, high quality, food truck that opened up on Annapolis Rd directly across from Ft Meade. They have a wide assortment of items including gumbo, jambalaya, and po'boys, all of which are served in large portions. You can even buy boiled crawfish by the pound, which goes well with a home crab boil. In two visits we tried the red beans and rice, jambalaya, and crawfish étouffée. The étouffée had great flavor with just enough kick to be spicy but not too hot for many people. The gumbo is served with the rice separated so that you can mix to your preferred level and similarly has a great taste with a bit of spice. The same can be said of the jambalaya. Each was difficult to stop eating, a personal worry as each dish was well portioned. On further visits we tried the shrimp po'boy which had a great creole mayo mixture, and the macque choux shrimp and grits that has become our new favorite. The food truck is located outside of Gambrills, MD. All dishes are served to-go, though there is a sitting area under a canopy. read more

I stood in line for 40 minutes and waited about 17 minutes just to get this tiny cup of shrimp and grits and corn bread (hahaha). My fiancé and I saw that Food Truck Thursday's have just started in our area, and this was a local one that I'd been wanting to try. It was definitely the most popular one out of all the food trucks as the line went from the truck, halfway into the parking lot of food trucks. I must say, It was the greatest shrimp and grits I've ever tasted! However, for the size of the shrimp and grits up, I feel that it was over priced (I think I paid about $12-$13). The shrimp were a good size (not like the tiny frozen shrimp you find at the super market). The cornbread was also a good size (and it was $1, I got 2). I love that it is a black owned business. The owner was very nice and told me to come back on Saturdays to try the po-boys that she makes (I can't remember where she said the truck is ok Saturday so if someone can let me know that'd be great!). But the shrimp and grits were delicious. Next time I'm going to try to get there at exactly 4:00 though to avoid the line; I didn't get there until about 6:30 and by the time I got my food it was almost over (8:00). read more

Okay I was very sad when my husband and I went looking for this food truck in Odenton a few weeks ago and couldn't find it. But I played detective and figured out where it was on Thursdays. Man oh man am I glad we did! I had shrimp and grits and cornbread my husband the Gumbo. My husband loves it so much he just left to hurry and go get more before they close! Yaaaay I'm so glad I found you. Shrimp and grits were cooked well and the consistency was perfect as well as the flavor. So if you should come across Deja Roux... do yourself a favor and stop and get something yummy for your tummy! read more

Tried Deja Roux for the first time yesterday. The line was long and the food took forever. I waited 20 minutes in line and 33 minutes for one order of Shrimp and Grits. There was a layer of grease on the top of the container but the shrimp nor grits had any taste. The corn provided texture but that was the only good thing about the dish. The shrimp were grilled but tasteless no seasoning. The dish lacked seasoning. Definitely not worth $15. I've made better shrimp and grits at home read more

Down home Louisiana cooking is hard to find. This truck is on point! The crawfish etouffee is soooooo good! Perfect amount of heat and tons of tender crawfish tails. Perfect! And the cornbread is a must. Love it. Can't wait to try everything else on the menu! read more

Y'all. Let me be real with you. It is 103 degrees outside right now. I am hot, I am sweating, all I can think about is jumping in ice cold pool with a delicious drink. When I drove by and seen the food truck with that creole inside, y'all know I had to pull over. If you know me, you know that I know and love Creole and Cajun cooking. It has a very dear place in my heart. It's hard to find someone out here who knows what they're doin, so today was my lucky day. I heard Zydeco coming from the speakers that greeted me like an old friend and the owner was out back shucking corn. I knew then I'd made the right decision. I ordered their signature dish: Maque Choux Shrimp and Grits. Heat and humidity be damned! She told me she keeps the bacon out of the Maque Choux for people who are vegetarian. The corn was sweet, the grits were lovely and of perfect consistency and the shrimp was cooked just right. Not spicy at all if any of y'alls wondering. I chatted with her briefly to find out that she's from Lafayette, LA and would be goin back home soon to pick up some sausage. Again... I patted myself on the back for pulling over. I'm now sitting here with a tummy ache from being so greedy, sweating, listening to BeauSoleil and 100% satisfied! Can't wait to try the chicken andouille gumbo next. Bon Appétite! read more

Great food, clean and professional looking truck, and a friendly staff. I tried the crawfish etoufee. Good portion and flavor with plenty of crawfish. It comes with a side of cornbread as well. I was tempted to try one of their pies, but I will save it for next time. Gumbo and jambalaya start at $10 and the crawfish nears $14. Although this is more than I would like to spend for lunch, the satisfaction that comes after eating made it worth it. read more

We're from Louisiana and this is the first really authentic Louisiana food we've had in this area. I had the red beans and rice and jambalaya with grilled vegetables. Both dishes very spicy and delicious. I felt like I was back home - a sunny day eating Louisiana food. I will follow this truck. By the way, someone gave this truck a fair review and mentioned the boudin. Boudin is not a sausage. It is a mix of rice and meat and spices in a casing. You open the casing and eat what is inside. You don't eat the casing. The 'burned' taste in the red beans is the smoky flavor from the sausage. You have understand the food and it's origins in order to fully enjoy it. Expect spicy and a little different than Maryland food. read more

I ordered the gumbo. It was the worst gumbo in the history of gumbos. It had no consistency, it was watery and thin. No veggies with the meat(i.e celery, stewed tomatos, onion, green pepper, you know...gumbo). It was supposed to be chicken, shrimp, sausage and crabmeat. It had chicken, shrimp and sausage floating around in brown water. It was some things in it that look like chicken gizzards. I didnt eat that part. I threw most of it out. Sad part is, I was starving and I could not enjoy this. Usually anything is good when your stomach is gnawing on your backbone. Terrible, terrible gumbo, just take it off the menu. read more

We went by the food truck festival at Kinder Park today and were sadly misled by the term "Gumbo" at your foodtruck. No ochre, no pepper, no veg, and no flavor whatsoever. Bland white rice and unseasoned proteins with a basic beef stock culminating in a watery 10oz $13 BS-bucket, self-ordered from an iPad! Engage your customers, FFS! They offered Crystal Extra Hot Sauce to cover up their lack of effort, but it was just sad. The corn bread was decent, so hallelujah, I guess? Next time, I'll save my money and buy a box of Zatarain's for $1.50 and cook it at home. read more

I was excited to see this food truck but ended up feeling cheated. First of all, $12 for a cup of gumbo is highway robbery, no matter how good it is. Unfortunately, this gumbo was very underwhelming for that price. I had the same problem as a previous reviewer that said the gumbo was thin and had very suspect pieces of chicken in it. I understand that organ meat can add flavor but why am I paying $12 for gizzard broth? There was regular chicken meat but only a couple pieces, and with scant chopped shrimp and a little sausage. The overall taste wasn't bad but the other components made it disappointing. Maybe their other offerings are better, but I won't be back to see. read more

The shrimp and grits are well-seasoned and cooked perfectly. I made "the face." If you love flavorful creole/cajun food, you need to stop at this food truck.
