Overpriced We paid $870. for the driving school program. My daughter completed all the online classes and the drives but was told that she needed to redo the last drive. The school locks their website so that you can not just sign up for another drive until you have paid an $87 reschedule fee. Most of the time you have to call their office to handle the situation and this means that if you work during normal working hours, you can not easily call them to get the account paid and schedule more drives. So any time you are late, have to cancel, have been flunked, you pay an extra $87 fee for that drive. DONT THINK THIS CLASS COSTS $600. YOU WILL GET CHARGED FOR EVERY LITTLE THING. Additionally, there is a hard deadline by which all the classes have to be scheduled. If this deadline is exceeded there is ANOTHER FEE to extend the ability to schedule make-up drives. At the end of the day. We paid $870 to this group and did not get the outcome of a child who can safely and legally drive a car. We had a very frustrating time communicating with the staff who pretty much made this situation our problem and I was told that we should have known better and that my child was the problem, not their policies. So I suppose that if you have the type of family where your child is perfect and your family can easily get through a program without the need of any modifications, changes, or timeline extenstions than this is a great program for you. But if your family is not of this sort .... Just keep shopping around. Also the response from the owner that they understand about how hard it is to fit driver's ed around school and work and scheduling other commitments is not true because if she did, then she wouldn't have such strict policies that buckle and dime families. There would be one price for a service provided, and no matter what they would work with those families to make sure that the end product of a child who safely knows how to drive a car and can legally operate a vehicle in the state of Washington would be obtain This is clearly not the case read more

Unreal. During the written test, the proctor talked the whole time about his bicycling and weight lifting. While the kids were taking the test. They were looking up at him - he was in the front of the room pacing back and forth and talking. I got caught by him at the beginning and was trapped for 15 minutes listening to him prattle on about bicycling, how fast he was compared to the young kids, and how much weight he can lift. My son ended up taking three drive tests there. The first two were administered by cranky, rude, terse, mean instructors who clearly didn't want to be there. Both were very tricky circumstances. During he first one he was told to back around the corner and keep backing up straight until the instructor said stop. He never said stop. My son was nervous, and he slowed down because there was a car he was going to hit if he kept going, but he is a rule follower and kept going until he gently nudged the car. Fail. Ok. That is somewhat legit. You can't hit a car during your drive test. But the guy was a jerk and my son was nervous. Really not a great setup for success. Second test. My son does great. He had a different instructor - same rudeness, terseness and clearly he didn't want to be there either. This guy seemed angry at my son during the whole test. Sounds fun doesn't it? This time, the guy takes him through the intersection of Lincoln and Caldart in Poulsbo, where there is a separate turn lane and no signage (see pic below). It seems like a yield situation (confirmed by his driver's ed instructor later), but according to the instructor, my son ran a red light. He did look to see if any cars were coming, and SLOWLY rolled through. Fail number two. Now we're $160 in the whole. Another $80 and we get Dave the owner as his drive instructor. Nice guy. Relaxed. My son passes with a 94 with no issues. You tell me. Does this seem right? I am trying to be impartial - I'm not asking for a refund. I'm not trying to be overprotective of my teen. He was quite resilient actually. I offered to help find somewhere else to go. He was determined to show them he could pass the test. Find somewhere else to go get your testing done for your teen's driver's license. This place is depressing and the people are not competent. You do NOT want your teens in the car with them. read more

Defensive Driving School - Driving Schools Near Me - Poulsbo, Washington

Great place! super easy to understand and a great way to learn! Definitely recommended and having the web classes are super great for people who live farther away! read more

Switch your instructor if you get Paul. He isn't friendly, did not greet or even look up from his clipboard when I arrived. His attitude comes off like this is the last thing he wants to be doing. It's slightly nerve racking taking your first drivers test and he puts 0 effort into helping his students feel somewhat comfortable through out the entire experience. read more

Defensive Driving School was awesome. Just what we needed to get prepared for the driving test. David, the instructor was fantastic! Every time we got him it was a positive and fun experience for my daughter. Highly recommend him! read more

I had a great experience here! David was my instructor and was very friendly and helpful. I had an hour lesson before my test and I am a better driver thanks to him! I was very anxious and he talked me through it. I definitely recommend this place and David as your instructor! Thanks! read more

We found Defensive Driving School after having a bad experience with another local driving school. Our older children had also attended two different driving schools in the area and DDS was by far our best experience! DDS was a great place for our son to learn the rules and mechanics of driving. He enjoyed the instructor and the class time and the drives were very helpful in increasing his confidence on the road. The only reason we are giving 4 stars instead of 5 is that it would be more helpful if the final drive and the final test counted toward getting his license like the other local schools. However, it is a small price to pay for the quality of instruction our son received. Thank you! read more

Great experience David was my instructor super nice and friendly really helpful with directions and instructions, was super nervous for my test but once I was in the car it was a breeze, definitely better then some other driving schools read more

Overall: Six stars for Greg (the instructor), minus two stars for inflexible rescheduling policy. Okay, so I'm a guy in my late 20s who had never had a driver's license. I was scared of driving and when I attempted to drive I was not very good. I started taking lessons from Greg (the drive instructor). He is very patient and great at explaining things. He compliments you the whole time so your confidence builds up. In just nine hours of lessons (plus ~20 hours outside of class), Greg turned me into a confident, safe driver. The end result was a 93 on my driving test!!! (6 stars!) HOWEVER, they have a policy that you must cancel your drives two full business days in advance or you have to pay for the entire lesson even though you didn't drive. I get it, you don't want kids signing up and then not showing up because that is wasted time. I think that if I pay $900 for 10 lessons, you can give me a break if I am sick and call you the minute your office opens. They disagree and told me I should have called two days ago, when I was feeling fine. (-2 stars) read more

The way they do attendance is absurd. After a technical issue one of my attendance polls was not properly submitted i was marked absent even after submitting the two other polls. When i emailed the school telling them there was a mistake, i had to retake the class anyway. The person directing my driving test was also extremely unhelpful. The instructor that was teaching my class on zoom also made a racist comment. read more

I agree with the review below, 6 stars for Greg (the instructor). I am 37 and had very little driving experience when I found Defensive Driving. After 8 lessons and roughly 30-60 mins of practice during the week I had my licence. Passed my test on the first try. Greg is an exceptional teacher, put me at ease and also just a pleasure to spend 90min a week with! read more

The classes seem to be good. But the scheduling website is absolutely horrible. They wont let you schedule drives until your previous one was at least 7 days ago. I found this irritating and plainly stupid. Otherwise this school deserves a 3 star read more

I would absolutely not recommend Defensive Driving School. We had two experiences with them. The first, my daughter signed up for a driving skills test. When the instructor, Tyson, arrived, he began complaining about his schedule, saying that he had too many drives scheduled, that 10 was too many, then said that they shouldn't even accommodate people who hadn't taken lessons at Defensive. Then he turned to my daughter and asked if she'd gone to Defensive and when she said no, he rolled his eyes and said, There you go. Then on the drive she came to a four way stop where one other car was stopped. The other driver was searching in her purse and waved my daughter on, so she went. The instructor failed her for going when she didn't have the right of way. So we scheduled a second driving test with Greg. Who never showed up for the test. We were told there was a scheduling misunderstanding, would we like to reschedule? We were given the options of rescheduling with Tyson, or rescheduling a month out. We asked if we could have something sooner, and were told no, even though the reason we had to reschedule was no fault of our own. read more
