Apparently, this company has already been investigated for their unfair sales practices. Please watch the news story below and share with everyone you know. I asked the sales rep twice the nature of their inquiries and each time she lied. Defenders said the only way to get a copy of the sales call was to get an attorney, so based on the advice I got from three attorneys (none would take the case because I didn't suffer any financial loss), I contacted the Attorney General's office (AGO) to have Defender's investigated under the Unfair and Deceptive Trade Practices Act. My advocate in the office got a copy of the call, heard how I was misled and recommended mediation to work out getting the hard inquiry removed from my credit report. Defenders, being the unethical company that they are, declined to participate in mediation! I wrote a letter to them threatening to contact the news and turn over the recording, along with the documents I got from the AGO and all of sudden they were going to make this one-time exception to have the inquiry removed from my credit report (while still refusing to admit wrong doing). It's been since October and the inquiry is still on my report. I contacted Equifax to see if a request was sent and according to them Defenders never sent over the request for removal (what a surprise). Contact your AGO, and if they get enough complaints, they can file a class action suit against this company. Also, contact your local news so other customers don't get tricked like we did. read more

They are scammers that approached me under ADT. They contracted for a monthly amount, but after the first month they kept taking higher amounts from my account. Every time I call, they transfer me to a different person and my account kept depleted with higher amounts. Until one day my daughter was by herself and the alarm went off. Kept calling, but no one responded. I had to cancel my contract with them after I overpaid the previous months. They are scsmmers, they tell you one thing and once they have ahold of your account, they feel free to take whatever they want. I have the real ADT now, very honest and prompt. read more

I have major concerns about ADT using Defenders to monitor my alarm system. I was told I had 3 business days to cancel my service and called on the third business day to so, only to find out that Defenders considers Saturday a business day. I am beyond perturbed. I feel scammed! I have family and friends who have used ADT with good reviews but this experience with this third party is beyond belief. In addition, I spoke with an ADT representation on Tuesday who named that I had until Wednesday to cancel with Defenders. There seems to be no communication between ADT and this third party system. First thing we will do is look for a place to punch a hole in your wall to"mount the panel" amd power it up. Then expect an intrusive walkthrough with comments on vulnerable windows, unreliable cable/phone lines, placement of interior cameras and replacing door locks. Your Security Adviser is paid by commission on the upsell for equipment and monthly monitoring. They have the ability to give a 50% "discount" amd still make good money on the 4 digit figure they pitch. Look up crime in the area, cost for cellular monitoring of a security system and news reports online about deceptive practices. You are inviting a commission based salesperson into your house who will make a hole in your wall as their hook and push for the big sale. They are known as "Defenders Security Company", "Protect Your Home" authorized ADT provider. NOT ADT Security. They will say it is about protecting your home but if you don't spend extra money it is selling fear to feel protected. Although we currently have one unique "Shock Sensor" the rest of the equipment is outdated and nearly all is marked up ×3. Your Security Adviser is under a lot of pressure from the "Security Manager" and regional sales number in order to maintain the commission rate and sometimes their jobs. read more

Dealing with Defender Security has been an absolute nightmare. My Pulse arming/ disarming feature has stopped working, but the camera feature works just fine. I've had two (one a lead) technicians come to the house to take a look at it- and both techs said that the issue is not something they have the capability to fix. Both the techs, and other service members they called while in my house, agreed that this is a one-off issue that they have no resolve for. I've been calling, and calling, and calling, Defenders since June trying to get this issue resolved. Since I've been paying extra for a feature that is not fully functioning, I asked Defenders to provide me with an outdoor camera to make up for the payments toward Pulse I've been making- since the camera feature works just fine on my Pulse, this would make up for the non-functioning arm/disarm feature. The manager I spoke to on the phone was less than helpful, giving me the run around, trying to troubleshoot (even though I suggested she look back into the records to see the millions of times I've already tried troubleshooting). Then, tells me that their Defenders provider in the area "temporarily does not have outdoor cameras in stock". Okay great, so my next question was, "Well, can they order one from another branch"- and the answer was "no, they cannot, they don't have outdoor camera service yet". Okay so, wrong use of the word "temporarily" if they've never had the capability to begin with. Defenders has been taking my money for a service that they are not providing due to whatever the communication error is between my Pulse app and panel. They are also offering no real solutions to the problem. The manager (still not understanding I've been dealing with this issue for MONTHS) said they'll send another tech out. Great, another tech who will most likely not be able to help (since the other two couldn't do anything), and I'm right back at square one. I would never, EVER, recommend Defenders to anybody who cares about their money being put to services that actually work. Talking to the Defenders staff has left me with many questions about how they were hired in the first place (sounding confused, saying they're transferring me and hanging up, offering no real solutions to a persistent problem). ADT should be ashamed of themselves for contracting with this company, it makes the ADT brand look absolutely terrible and has me looking to transfer to a different home security company. read more

Had security system along with 2 cameras and door lock installed in July. About a week after install, one camera stopped recording. Called and after the rep on the phone did something on her end, none of our digital equipment worked anymore. Had to wait for a tech to come out. Was told I would get a 1 month fee refunded back to my credit card for inconvenience and this did NOT happen. Instead, I get told I got a $45 credit on my account instead of the $59.99 I was originally told. Soon after, I get an invoice to pay permit fees. We call to pay the fees and are told, the $45 credit covers the costs and nothing further needed. Since then, I keep getting calls from their permit office saying I need to pay the permits fees. I have called them back 3 times and have been told by each person, I do not need to pay the permit fees because my $45 credit more than covers the cost of the permits. I am still getting phone calls to pay the permit fees. When I call the permit department back, no one answers. I always get a message they are busy with other customers. They also did not call me back after I left a message. On top of that, our digital door lock went offline and I've had to call for that. After they fixed it, it went offline again. Luckily I was able to go to their portal and figure out how to fix the connection myself. Since I've already called them 4 times regarding the permit fees and am not getting anywhere, I have to resort to posting on social media in hopes someone will take care of this. I haven't even said anything about the leftover credit I have that I have not seen a cent of. This is my first time being their customer and I just want a reliable system, functioning equipment and good customer service. If I can get that then they would get a long term customer but I have to say that we are not off to a good start. read more

I bought a townhouse and decided to look into a secuity system, met an ADT salesman in February and even though I was not moving in for a few minths he told me to start the contract then as I had appliances that might be stolen. He promised me a $200 gift card in 4 to 6 weeks if I started the contract in February. I did. It us now over 3 months and I still do not have my gift cards, and if I wanted to cancel I would have to pay 75% of the three year contract to cancel. Received a call after submitting an inquiry to ADT. I wanted to book someone to come out and provide an estimate but then they asked for the last four of my social to run a credit check...which they told me would not be a hard inquiry. Seemed fishy so I did some research. Turns out they do run hard credit checks, which impact your score. The whole call was very shady - kept adding on "special offers" and "savings", all the while telling me "Wow! I can't believe we're able to save you this much money!". Wow! I can't believe I'm going to turn you down and then write a one star review! Writing this review on behalf of my father. Absolutely horrible experience with this company through ADT. ADT told my father that they would send a consultation over to check the house to see if they can install specific security cameras outside that ADT couldn't verify over the phone. This Defender company came to my dads house and said they would look around to see what they could do for wiring. But instead they decided to do an unauthorized installation for window sensors and basically baby monitors that would look out the window from inside that were "wireless" and needed batteries to be replaced often. Here's the worse part: after my dad saw they were already trying to install unauthorized equipment without his knowledge he asked them to not do so and to leave before installing the sensors and cameras. But then they proceeded to try to corner my dad to buy their equipment that they said would cost $7,000 for 3 HOURS after a free 7 month trial and to sign papers. They would not leave my dads home after multiple requests to leave then said all of the security options would be free if he signed up for a monthly fee for the cloud. I had to tell the two associates named Robert and Elijah to leave. When they finally left they left the current ADT alarm system misconfigured and the wires cut. I am in shock that I have just experienced what everyone else has below in the comments. It is a bait and switch scam. This is not ADT, but a "dealer" of which I was not aware when I allowed this company through my door. ADT does not stand by the "6 month-satisfaction guarantee. They have told me that I need to cancel through Defenders (after only 5 days of service in which the install was incomplete and what was installed did not function after 24 hours). Defenders refused to let me cancel because of the 3-day cancel policy, even though the technician assured us this was not the case the day he installed. The installation tech stated that he would finish the install the next week because he didn't have all the components in his truck. He never returned and thus delayed our ability to cancel the services within the allowed window of time. Disgusting, unethical business practices by both ADT and Defenders. read more

Spoke with them by phone. Was told they would take over all my existing equipment, and cover all windows as well as adding two smoke detectors at no cost. This included my door lock and thermostat. The quoted me 27.99 a month for monitoring and told me I would receive an additional 1766.00 credit for equipment. Called two days later as I did not receive the email confirmation, that detailed our upcoming transaction, was told they don't send things out in writing (red flag #1). Fast forward to install date. I review all this with David Eaton the installer prior to any work commencing. I still have yet to sign a contract or agreement. I had a plumbing emergency and he said he was going to get started while I was gone as my wife was still here.He also confirmed my offer verbally and that is why I gave verbal permission for work to begin. I return and the synopsis is...monitoring is now 59.99 a month...covering all windows now brings system cost to 4299 which I can make four convenient payments to cover that cost. Then there is a 599.00 account set up fee in addition to the 100.00 installation fee they already charged me. He already installed their panel! I told him take it down and put my stuff back the way he found it. He reinstalls panel but wiped the memory and communications data so now we have no alarm and will likely have to pay CPI to fix it. Bad business all around. I will be filing a small claim in court if I get a repair bill from CPI. read more

Nor was it in my paperwork but I was charged for it months ago without my knowledge and content. The worst customer service ever. They try to advertise towards the military but do not support the military at all. Once I found out how shady they are, I sent my cancellation request but, since I live in a rural area the mail was not picked up on time so they received my request a day after. They would not work with me even though I explained to them that I was deploying and I didn't want to deal with this while deployed. The manager straight up told me he did not care, not his business. I regret getting the service from these corrupt individuals. They want me to pay almost $2000 to get out of my contract and I haven't even had the system for 2 weeks. When I spoke to them about installing a new system they pretended like they WERE ADT, and then they wanted me to pay for an appointment, which they promised would be refunded if I didn't buy a system at install or would be credited to my system cost. Today I have to say I have had the most unprofessional service I have ever received. ADT/Defenders was scheduled to come to my house to install cameras and updated security system  When I originally called I was quoted around $32 a month and I was going to do our business office as well for another $32 a month We were told we were going to be given credit for all of the equipment so there shouldn't be any out-of-pocket expenses except for the $99 activation fee which we paid over the phone David Roushia employee ID 19578 came over and made several holes in my wall, then says let's sit down and talk numbers. We say numbers I thought we already discussed numbers over the phone, we even have to go through a recording to agree to the prices that was discussed and terms and conditions, David said I'm sorry but here are the prices and his quote was much higher than what was agreed upon once we told David this he said well I will call my manager. David precedes to call his manager, by the name of Ian and doesn't realize that the phone is really loud and we can hear the full conversation, Ian starts making racial jokes saying they're probably Indian because they're so cheap and they always want to bargain with us I've dated is just agreeing with him as soon as we heard this we were infuriated and asked him to patch up our walls and gets out of our house David said he couldn't help us and he packed up his stuff and left. I call ADT which told me I needed to deal with Defenders so they transferred me to Defenders and I spoke to a manager by the name of Dylan employee ID DH7671 which was also very condescending and rude over the phone as I'm speaking to my husband he called me condescending and he wanted to disconnect the call I told him how am I condescending to you when I'm not even speaking to you I'm speaking to my husband his response to me was isn't it ironic that the representative that was at your house also wasn't speaking to you and was speaking to his boss as if he was defending his racist actions I asked Dylan if I could speak to his manager and he said he was the highest person there and there wasn't anybody else that he can get me over to At this point I don't want to deal with this unprofessional company and I've asked him to refund the fee that I paid over the phone and to send me someone to fix my walls he said he refunded the amount but he couldn't send anybody to fix my walls that I would have to get somebody to fix it and I can send it over the bill. I asked him who do I send the bill to and he gave me the customer service number I asked him I don't want to customer service number because that will get me first right back to where I'm at now I would like the fax number that I need to fax the bill to he said he did not have that you could not provide that to me I asked him if he could transfer me over and he told me that he could not transfer me because he was the highest manager and his phone is an inbound phone that would not allow him to transfer me to the customer service which I did not understand if this is your manager that supposed to be the cream of the crop of customer care in your company then I'm not sure how you guys are still in business Dylan basically antagonize me throughout the whole phone calls and got my frustration levels that was already high to begin with even higher by the end of the call. Title: Run Away as Fast and as Far as You Can! *DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY FOR YOUR ALARM SERVICES. RUN RUN RUN RUN! *The employees of this company are scam artists and they are dishonest. *I went to the adt.com website and obtained a phone number to call for alarm services. ADT's website directed me to a subcontractor known as Defender but the site did not tell me that. When I called Defender, they did not identify themselves as Defender, very deceptive. I had an existing alarm system and Defender told me that they could do a system takeover with no additional cost. *Day of set-up. A Defender employee came to my house wearing an ADT shirt (foreshadowing). Patrick, the Defender installer, came back with a quote of $5,400 to secure my house. I didn't understand this because all of the alarm contact points were already installed so I declined (I told this information to the sales agent so I don't know why Patrick gave me the hard sell). Patrick then proceeded to install an alarm over my existing alarm and disabled all of my old sensor and only kept two sensors (there were about 15 sensors on all of my windows and doors prior to Patrick). Patrick ignored the service request to take over the old system and just installed a new system with only two sensors which effectively made my house less secure. Patrick chose to put sensors on a door that is not even used nor does it have outside access, wtf?? *When Patrick told me he was finished, I asked him how to use the new panels he installed. Patrick did not know how to use the new panels and they were not installed properly. He told me that I would need to call Defender. I then asked him, "Don't you work for Defender?" Patrick replied, "I do not work for Defender, I work for ADT." This was a bold faced lie, Patrick works for Defender, he knew that he screwed up and did not want to help me fix the problem (I believed him). After many calls with Defender and ADT, I confirmed that Patrick was lying and he, in fact, wors for Defender and not ADT. *Right after Patrick finished, I felt that something was amiss so I sent in my cancellation form immediately (thank God). *This company will tell you whatever you want to hear to get their foot in the door and then install an alarm incorrectly and lock you into a contract and then not help you fix it because they are impossible to get a hold of. I tried to contact their tech support to see if they could fix the problem and they yelled at me and then hung up. *Moral of the story, sign up with Defender if you like to be tormented, tortured, robbed, screwed over, spit on, yelled at and lied too. If youre thinking about defenders, please run. The company is the most unethical company Ive ever worked for. They treat their customers and their employees like garbage. Run far away. 1) many appointments are presold that everything they are receiving is completely free. 90% of your appointments are going to be a bait and switch move. 2). Same way with the monthly monitoring rate. They send out promos saying 27.99 per month, but only if you have a land line. (90% of people dont have) Mgmt trains us to do a whole song and dance trying to plug into the customers modem and tell them why they cant do that rate. Total deception. Also youre expected to get the job in no matter what. I had a situatiom where the guy was mentally not sufficient to sign the contract. He was a disabled veteren and severely ill. He wasnt interested and had no idea why we were there. I was told by my supervisor to push him into signing the contract (nope, not gonna do that). That affected my install rate and i was written up. 3) The company will do anything to not pay you correctly or take back your commissions. I had a customer who I sold, call back and complain that it was too much money. The install was good, the products were good but since "he didnt feel like spending money". They offered him a refund and took back my commission! All of your reimbursements will be heavily evaluated. 4) they also use a loophole in calling you "commissioned sales people". Even though your schedule is set by the company and youre not only selling but installing and going on company set svc calls. You have to be at the office at 6am and you will have an afternoon install scheduled at 3pm. But that will usually not show up until 5-6. So youll work at least a 12 hour day. 5) lastly the company recently went thru a product line swap but for the last 2 months weve been selling refurbished equipment as new. Not only security equipment but life saving devices like smoke and carbon detectors... taken out of the box they already have writing on the back, etc. If all of the above sounds kosher to you, I think youve found the right job! After a neighbor had their house broken into I figured it was time to get a security system. Since I previously had ADT I decided I'd use them again. Well...a horrible decision and waste of my time. In a nutshell I was lied to in regards to the products I would receive with my install and most of all the price monitoring would be monthly. A very nice installer came out to put the system in leaving a few holes in my walls along with the bad news after he was done that I would be paying double the amount quoted for monthly service. I talked with customer service and they were more interested in a quick fix of taking the system out of my house just a few days later. And...to top it off...the police showed up to my house thinking the alarm power was cut shortly after he left. NICE job Defenders!! I was at ADT.com to request for their service, this company showed up said they were the ADT (Premium Service Provider.) I thought they were the ADT corporate. Company like Comcast is a tier 1 service provider. I got a quote as $10,078 to wire all the windows and doors. 2 Days ago, my neighbor who took my recommendation for ADT, they installed 22 windows 4 cameras, 2 motion detectors and with all the perks for $937. I paid $1346 with 1/3 or even less of the sensors. Their customer support is just like a recording machine, I called 17 times, none of them admit there is anything wrong to quote me $10,078 for $937's work. Very sad result. Wow! Should have read the reviews beforehand... I will report them to BBB for aggressive and fear sales tactics. Also, I was offered an additional $200 gift card for trying Pulse and the guy was on the phone allegedly talking to his manager and stating that he approved it. I never received the email to claim my voucher and they do not have any record of it. The tactics they use are to instill fear into you to so that you buy more products from them and to purchase the contract for Pulse. Ben Sandler and his fellow technician went on to ask me what the value of my family's life is and if it was worth paying a few dollars more for their safety. I ripped into them while they were here but I should've kicked them out of my house instead. All I wanted was to have them come in, install what I requested and leave. It took them over 4 hours for a basic install and I swear it felt like I was stuck in a timeshare seminar being pressured to make the sale. After going through this drill with these folks, in hindsight I would just pay ANY other company more a month than to go through what I did. I'm waiting for a call back from the manager who is investigating but I won't hold my breathe. read more
