Clearly somehow linked to the 20+ burglaries, which began 5 months ago, the day after the system was installed
In addition to the myriad other issues already listed here, to which I can attest: false promises; bait and switch; bad customer service; unauthorized hard credit inquiry; misrepresenting themselves as ADT; unethical billing practices; unauthorized and duplicate charges; stolen identity/credit card number soon after contracting; unprofessional, pushy, rude and ignorant techs; faulty, outdated equipment and SO much more... The day after installing a non-functional system in my home, a 5 month long, ongoing rash of break-ins began.
I called defender to come fix the non-functioning motion sensors and cameras/pulse system that go down while the burglaries are in progress and they sent the same tech back 3 times, even when I asked for someone else. Each time he introduced himself with a different name. He would demonstrate that the issue was resolved and as soon as he left, everything went back down.
I looked into the pulse issue myself, since they wouldn't, and noticed spurious logins, multiple times per day, from a single IP address, dating back to the very first day, while the installer was still here. I changed the password and soon after, someone changed it. After this occurred several times, I called ADT and told them to cancel the pulse account and I disconnected the cameras.
Next, I got completely locked out of the panel and could neither arm or disarm it anymore. They sent a different tech, who replaced the panel but still couldn't manage to get the motion sensors working.
The next month, after several more burglaries, I tried to change the master code, only to discover that the code I had been using was only a user code and I needed the master code in order to change it. I called ADT, who tried to recover the master code by using the installer code, only to learn that it too had been changed and there was no way to enter programming. They told me I would have to contact Defender to fix it.
I had recently filed a dispute with the credit card company for $4,000 of faulty equipment, which they had approved and when I called Defenders, they refused to come fix my system unless I paid the $4,000. I told them I would pay it when I had a functional system and they hung up on me
Ever since that day, I've received about 15 calls and several texts per day, from Defenders/Protect Your Home/"ADT", demanding the $4,000. At first, I would answer the calls and ask to speak to customer service. They would put me on hold for 15-20 minutes until, invariably, the call was disconnected on their end. Now, every time they start harrassing me from a new number, I just block it. If it goes on my credit report, I will dispute it.
Last week my roommate set off the alarm for about 5 minutes, accidentally. Neither of us got a call and the police never showed up. I contacted ADT and they finally sent out a tech. He was unable to access the system and Defenders/Defender/"ADT"/Protect Your Home/Steal Your Money and Identity, Hurt Your Credit and Break-In To Your Home/whoever they are today said they had never changed the installer code. ADT is coming back tomorrow to replace the system and then I plan to demand that they cancel my contract and go with some other company who can use the same equipment, because I have lost so much money and peace of mind since this ordeal started. I don't even stay at my house anymore, because I am afraid of being home when the burglar breaks in.
If you still have a choice, I cannot stress enough how horrible this company is but if you're reading this, it is probably already too late. God help you. read more
