Wow a disc golf course in heavy populated oc. This is a modern mini 9 target course. Great first course or putter practice course . Well worth a visit , since disc golf is so foreign in a place with no room for it. This works enough to get u hooked . There are long shot options to some holes and a long version . Very nice park anyway , rest rooms are very decent . U feel human in there , as for Costa Mesa restrooms, don't bother . Much thanks for Irvine keeping this park a disc golf option . Beautiful well maintained park with plenty of shade, and great pathways for kids to ride a scooter or balance bike. Two playgrounds.. one for older and one for younger kids. Clean restrooms, tennis courts, and volleyball courts. Really perfect for walks and spending time with kids. read more

It makes me feel so good to be at Deerfield Community Park. I park here from time to time to join the bike club for a ride on the weekends. I like the bathrooms at this park, location, and feel. What does not make me feel so good is that my car (with me at the car), got hit with a Hard Disc from the Disc Golf players 2X in the past 3 years and keep in mind that when I am at this park, I am only at my car for maybe 20 minutes loading or unloading a bicycle, and my car is parked on the street! So I have to imagine that this is not an infrequent occurrence and probably people have gone home to see dings and dents on their cars, and not connected that it may have been caused by a Disc at the park. And on the two occasions that my car was hit and the player came over to retrieve his disc, there attitude Was NOT, "Sorry, that one got away, I hope that I did not cause any damage, what can I do?" It was more like, "Where is my Disc man?, S__t, it hit a car?" These are not professionals here that can control their Discs, they are amateurs many of them. And ladies and gentlemen--these Disc's are not the soft Frisbees that you see peeps at the beach or park passing to one another. The Discs used in Disc golf at this park are Hard, Sharper edged Discs, that dent the body of the car, and if they hit you in the head or face, can cause serious injury in my opinion. Picture getting hit in the head with a golf ball. They can knock you out faster than Mike Tyson! See photo above of actual Disc seized from one of the Disc Golf Perpetrators that hit my car. The circumference of edges on the Disc, are a hard solid inflexible plastic. While the city of Irvine warns with many signs when you ENTER the park to look out for flying Discs--the City set up some nets close enough to the street so that cars parked and people walking by can be clonked in the head by an errant Disc. There is no warning to people that just park on the streets adjacent to this park of the Disc danger. I would place signs up the minute you turn onto the streets around the perimeter of the park. Really the park needs to be netted like some parts of a baseball stadium --is the real solution. If my car has been hit 2 times on the street already and I'm not at this park very often, and not at my car for very long when I am at the park--how many other cars and people have been hit by these uncontrolled flying objects? I would never bring my children to this park. read more

This is just a mediocre park. They do have good parking and easy access with a dedicated traffic light. My reason for giving it 4 stars instead of 3 stars is that we do a lot of classes with the City of Irvine and this location is much more organized than some of the other locations and the staff are friendlier. They also have a kitchen here and offer cooking classes for kids via the City of Irvine for really inexpensive pricing which is a great perk. When we visited the disc golfers didn't bother us but the park was a bit weird for kids because the 2 play areas are really separate which is inconvenient if you have kids different ages. read more

I wasn't too keen on this park because the two play areas are separate. The older kids play area is on the other side of the park, and it is not stroller friendly to get to, as there is no concrete path. The play area for toddlers is nice and shady and has a low concrete wall encircling it which parents can sit on and watch their kids from. The carpark is decent and had some shady areas. read more

This review is only pertaining to the disc golf! The 9 hole course is a very short course. Everything is close enough to hit the basket with a mid range disk on your first throw. It is a great course to practice your mid and short range throws. However beginners might find the last few holes a little nerve wracking, as the cars are parked fairly close to the baskets, and could be easy to damage a vehicle. The overall condition of the park is good. The tee boxes could be small patches of concrete, and I think that would help with grip, along with not damaging the landscape. Parking is easy to find, and is all around the entire perimeter of the park. Cost: free Misc: if you have kids, there are a couple of playgrounds, also courts to play tennis and pickleball. It is in a safe location. read more

I must agree with the many other reviews on the negative changes to this park. I used to live in MN and there are a ton of Disc courses in parks and in neighborhoods and cars get hit, buildings get hit. It happens. Have you ever seen a golf course in a neighborhood? Yes. Do those cars and building and people get hit? Yes. Does anyone complain? Yes. Do they make the holes junk by shortening them to 30ft to the pin? Not a chance, because it would RUIN the course. Unfortunately the powers that be in Irvine governing the Park here don't understand this and decided instead of continuing to provide a great park and service for all to enjoy they had to destroy what they consider the problem. The disc golf. I can tell you this is not the issue. The issue is all the pampered entitled OC prissy residents that just want to complain if they are slightly inconvenienced on anything. It's only a matter of time till this whole park is gone anyways. Has anyone noticed all the "Unsafe" metal excercise and balance stations around the park? There are metal pipes sticking up to balance on, or metal bars to walk on. Someone is going to get seriously injured on these things (Much more than a disc would ever cause) and this park and the city of Irvine will be sued. Hopefully after that person ends up owning this park, they are a disc golf fan and remakes it into massively long holes simply to spite all these idiots who like to ruin things for everyone. read more

12/1/15 - Deerfield is back!! That being said, it has been significantly reduced in size. Every hole has been shortened to putting/approach length. The longest hole might be 150 ft. They require each person to sign a waiver before playing and the course is restricted to putters and "approach type" discs only. Approach type is very vague but likely means midrange discs. Also there are no actual tee pads, more like tee 'areas'. There are signs designating where to tee off from but they are not specific. Use your best judgement but don't take advantage. The course isn't terrible if you don't think of it as a full disc golf course. Think of it as an approach/putting course and you'll be more satisfied. Not a bad place, that is close by, to work on your short game. If you do decide to play here, please be respectful of the rules that have been put in place so we can have more ground to stand on for future disc golf course endeavors. If the city sees that there is alot of foot traffic here and that people are being respectful of the neighbors, it will be more inclined to developing other full length courses nearby. read more

Of course Irvine takes the fun out of everything because no one can take care of themselves and we're all so entitled. Deerfield used to be a pretty decent disc golf course and if you're local, it's great to hang out and toss some discs. However, certain people have no problem leaving their kids completely unattended on a busy day at what is clearly a disc golf course. Your kid sucking his thumb directly between the tee and the hole is simply not the best move. I consider it natural selection but Irvine has to cater to those who can't comprehend their surroundings (or basic English). Now, Deerfield is no longer a disc golf course and no longer worth anyone's time. The holes are short and overthrowing is the biggest obstacle. The tee-off area is now just a metal pole. Driver discs are apparently prohibited (but I still used mine out of spite because who's checking?). You apparently have to "sign in" for every round you play (but of course I didn't do that either). The layout is nothing what it used to be. Even with all of this, I'm sure these stupid people who frequent Deerfield will find a way to get in the way, not understand when you politely ask them to move, and hit their face against my perfectly thrown driver. The good news is that you're bound to have a hole-in-one because these holes are a joke. Somehow the citizens of Huntington can manage a course and they don't bring their kids there to become target practice. In summation, do not come here. ***If you complain about your car getting hit, think it through and don't park where your car can get hit. It's that simple, folks. There is nothing but expansive neighborhoods surrounding this park which means plenty of free, safe, undamaged parking. If you can't stand parking on the other side of the street to save ten steps, I don't know what else to tell you. If you already know this is a disc golf course, use that ol' noggin of yours. read more

I really enjoy this park and love the disc golf course. They also have great volley ball and shade for a nice picnic. For the other disc golf players, please watch your throws and be respectful, this is also a park. Like the other review mentioned these discs can be impactful if they strike someone or something. We want to maintain this as a course and if people are careless the city will take it away. read more

Very fun course for disc golf. Pretty nice for beginners as most holes are 200 feet and under. Best part it's free.

Not worth playing disc golf anymore. Super short holes. Basically it got turned into a kid course. You are better off forgetting this course exists. I used to play this course 3 or more times a week and now the redesign has completely neutered it. You are much better off going to Huntington or another course up the freeway. read more
