Luckily, the view is gorgeous and it felt perfectly safe even at night. When we arrived, Mcleods was filled with locals and everyone was so gosh darn friendly! The wait after ordering was no more than 15 minutes, then they handed us a giant bag and we realized we may have made a mistake....we each got our own order of fish and chips and the servings are gigantic! I mean, I'm not complaining as it was delicious, but we certainly could have shared. We also got a battered pizza (yeah, that's right, fried pizza!). Even after the walk back to our lodging, everything was still nice and hot. There is no seating inside so this is strictly a take-out joint, and the only parking available is on the street, though the restaurant was quite busy on our visit and the street was not too crowded. Prices are incredible and if we had had a longer stay, I am sure we would have frequented Mcleods more than once. If I lived in Inverness it would be a go to spot for sure!

As an American from Texas I have never had authentic fish and chips before, so I decided to try it. They were crazy good and very filling! The ice cream was also fantastic, and the ladies behind the counter were wonderful and authentic people who cared about the customer/s. We should have pointed you towards MacGregor's as having the most delicious sticky toffee pudding, now verified after having several others that did not perfectly balance sweet with salt as that of the sticky toffee pudding at MacGregor's. If the pub is full, please find your way to the end of the bar and the small door to the left that takes you to the cosy table service room where Jess and other wait staff, including little Nala, will take the best care of you. We also highly recommend the steak & ale pie and fish & chips, should you require something a bit more than the sticky toffee pudding. There was no one at the entry way counter, but checked in with one of the wait staff by the bar. We stayed in room 5, which had an old-timey lock and key. You have to lock the room from the inside and the outside. I think the bed size was a queen, but we pushed both that and the twin bed together on the 2nd night because my poor husband wasn't able to fully stretch out his legs in the queen alone. If you think the shower looks small, don't worry, it's smaller haha. But it works and aside from the tight fit it's spacious. The room seems to sit over the back of the kitchen, but it's tucked away from the other rooms. We were able to watch some basic tv after dinner and the windows open for some fresh air, which is nice. There's a wardrobe, table and stool, a chair and 2 night stands for furniture. Plenty of space for two people. We were even able to get some laundry done. For an additional 10 pounds the wait staff took a load and washed, dried and folded it for us. We dropped it off in the morning and picked it up the same afternoon. Dining here was a pleasure. Breakfast was included and the full Scottish was delicious! We also had dinner here and they have a good selection of options and will even allow you to take drinks up to your room when you're finished dining. It's not a fancy place, but it's so homey and the staff are friendly and helpful. If you're passing through Invergordon make sure to stop here for a meal or a stay.

We already had lunch but the fish here looked so nice and crispy, so we ordered some to take out and enjoy at the harbour. It was as good as it looked. Crispy, hot and fresh. Tender inside. Wanting to stuff that in my craw as quickly as possible, I went to the first place I saw, decorated with fish and chips award sticks, Seefresh Foods. I should comment and say that this is a chip shop, not a sit-down kind of restaurant. You buy your fish and chips, and then you go wander over to a sunny table near the docks and sit down and eat them (while being accosted by seagulls). I stood in line and got a reasonably large portion of fish and chips for a decent price. The quality of the chips and batter were fine, but the fish did seem a little bit dry/not freshly cooked. This would have been okay, on its own, but what made me give this shop a 2 star review is that, a few hours later, I discovered my traveling companions had gotten much better quality fish and chips from a shop right around the corner. I was slightly peeved. Bottom line, go around the corner and go to "The Chippy," which is attached to the "Seaforth Inn" and get your fish and chips there.
