This evening was our second experience at BSO's Home for the Holidays! For us, it was an…read moreExtravaganza! From the 'Will Call' table organization to the Panama School Strolling Strings to the BC Choir and of course, the BSO itself. ABSOLUTELY SUBLIME! NOT ONE note out of tune. And, being a former semi-professional violist and teacher myself, I feel somewhat confident in making that statement. I played under Alberto Bolet of the then Kern Philharmonic and John Farrer, first conductor of the Bakersfield Symphony Orchestra. Those were the days that ALL conductors wore FULL-DRESS TUXEDOS that really get your attention that these conductors were absolutely serious about their role in leading and commanding very much deserved and earned respect as "THE" sole individual responsible for orchestral musical performance outcomes. And, SUCH a refreshing thing to see then (as it would be now) in an era of far-too casual dress at special performances like these. Many concert-goers know the dedication, wood-shedding-hours-upon-hours of practice and sacrifice these musicians must make to perfect their performance - as well as those who do not...but for me...that tuxedo says it all... Oh, what a fabulous tradition we have here in this town! A professional LIVE orchestra - available to the masses at all price points - in a marvelous theatre with outrageous acoustics too. If you haven't experienced this Christmas Time TREASURE - you are MISSING it! They even have delicious snacks before concert time, beautiful LIVE stringed instruments being played by the youth from Panama School in the lobby, coloring tables for kids, and adult beverages plus photo ops...ALL under one roof! Incredible - and for such a reasonable price!! The security staff this year far outshone that of last year's. AND, let's not forget the wonderful ushers that help everyone find their seats (and even improve their seating if necessary due to accessibility issues)...simply over-the-top. HEY BAKERSFIELD! LET'S FILL THE AUDITORIUM TO THE BRIM NEXT YEAR!!!! WAY TO GO BSO AND BC CHOIR! UTTERLY FANTASTIC! Makes me really want to pick up my violin again and teach. Now that's going some after 50 years...Don't you think so?

The symphony is wonderful, but it's not worth going. First, the box office charges you a…read moreridiculous amount in "fees" because they don't sell you tickets direct - they actually just log into axs, so you are paying an online provider even if you buy at the box office, and in our case the fees were 50% of the cost of our tickets. Fix this . . . Second, the crowd is unbearable. People were talking incessantly, standing up frequently during the performance, eating during the performance, and one person let their phone ring (not just once, but the same person with a distinct ring three times during the performance)(the conductor made a joke of it, but seriously, get a hint). If you pay a ton of money to hear music, you don't want the constant chatter, wrappers, and other distractions of the crowd. Finally, the seats are absurdly uncomfortable. They are much smaller than any venue I've been in, they are plastic, and they are mounted into a concrete floor. To be honest, I could probably put up with the venue, and rationalize the cost as supporting the arts . . . but the crowd, the noise, and the distractions ruin the experience.

F*CKING AWESOME! I…read morehad the honor of having "Mariachi Sol y Luna" come play for my mom's 47th surprise birthday party and she still can't stop talking about how amazing it was. The booking process is a breeze; very easy to book and get into communication with. From the moment they started playing "Las Mañanitas" and I saw they tears of joy on my moms eyes I knew it was 1000% the right choice and totally worth it. Each member of the group had a distinguished voice allowing them to play a variety of music while being able to play their instruments to perfection. They are extremely talented and their energy radiates around the room. Their stage presence and their ability to connect with everyone truly sets them apart. I would say my favorite part of their performance was when they sang "Can't Take My Eyes Off You" which most other groups can't play like they did. Since I was a kid my moms dream was always to have a mariachi group come play for her and I am happy to say we were finally able to make that dream come true with the best group out there. I would definitely recommend booking "Mariachi Sol y Luna" for your next event or maybe even to surprise your mom on her special day.

I will never buy tickets here again . I was so upset when I heard how the staff treated my parents…read moreand how Visalia Fox Theatre completely disregarded the needs of my visibly disabled parents . My parents were treated terribly the night of the Amy Grant concert recently. My parents rarely are afforded the opportunity to go out due to chronic pain because of their disabilities . I had purchased tickets for my mom for Christmas due to sentimental reasons . She was very excited , got dressed up and so did my dad who walks with not one but two canes . They took their pain meds and decided to make it a date despite physical barriers . They drove from Hanford to Visalia Fox Theatre. There was no available parking nearby so my dad parked 2 blocks back and hobbled to meet my mom on his two canes for two blocks . Once at the door some young employee tells my mother she can't come in with her backpack purse , meanwhile others are entering inside with purses that didn't have straps . This very young looking employee alerts a " manager " and the manager advances toward my mom with a disgusted expression from what my mom described who by the way is nice to everyone . I'm the mean one when my people are treated badly , but she is not . My mom asks , I dont understand the rationale . How is this purse any different than the other purses other than it has two straps and you can wear it like a backpack? How is that a safety issue in comparison to a regular purse . Both can easily conceal contraband ? I can't walk this far again . I guess I can't go ." The so-called-manager stated " well I guess you can't" in a condescending tone . My handicapped parents hobbled back to their car defeated and were unable to attend the concert that I paid FULL PRICE for in December. They were really sad . You people are monsters ! Close to 150 dollars down the drain . I wonder what Amy Grant would think about how you treated my parents . She is a Christian artist . I was livid when I found out . I was at work while this occurred otherwise your staff would have gotten a very unpleasant phone call from me in real time for how badly they treated my parents . I did call the theatre and I was directed to a voice mail of a woman named Wilamina. She never returned my call ( to my knowledge) No voice mails left . I guess she had better things to do with her time as a manager than manage business relationships with unhappy consumers . Do better Visalia Fox Theatre . My questions for this business are as follows 1. What accommodations do you have in place for ADA laws that accommodate persons with disabilities? Seating ? Parking ? Are your staff educated with ADA laws and what specific training do you provide ? When your staff identified two seniors who were struggling with visible disabilities , were they offered assistance ? 2. How is it that two straps on a purse are more dangerous or threatening than a single strap bag ? Please enlighten me on how there is a greater likelihood of contraband entering the theater with a two strap purse . Brilliant . Your safety measures are superior and sophisticated as are your professional and empathetic staff . On a side note, I've been sharing this experience with some friends . My friend mentioned she attended an event at Hanford Fox theatre a few months ago and was permitted to bring in her backpack purse .

It's about the experience! This venue is good for a non-mainstream concert show. Many comedy shows…read morecome thru here and do well. Rock and country concerts are another matter entirely. Although security is present they do not enforce seating at all. You may pay for a premium seat but folks are allowed to bounce to the front and down the aisles near the stage and block your view. There is seating only in the orchestra area no pit so essentially folks are on top of you or stealing your purchased premium seat to be near the stage. Quite annoying! Folks are also over served alcohol which makes for an even less pleasant experience when you're getting spilled drinks on you and hit in the head because a drunk girl can't control her swaying hands. I witnessed this and no action by security standing nearby. It's sponsored by Budweiser so expect Bud products. No food only overpriced popcorn to go with the over priced beer, cocktails and wine. One regular sized can of beer is $12. Sometimes it's not about the money you make it's about the customer experience! The Fox theatre in Bakersfield is well managed and a completely more pleasant experience as a concert venue. If you're looking to have a positive time out making great memories then select the Bakersfield Fox theatre over the one in Visalia.

The manager dropped the ball and never sent us a zoom link so my daughter waited and waited with her guitar at the computer super bummed. So I finally reached out to schedule the other two lessons, almost a year later since they weren't doing any in person lessons and they told me they had no record to show that I had paid for four and only did two. I called the owner and was very disappointed in how he handled the situation telling me, "sorry we can't give away free lessons" even though I paid $80 worth of my hard earned money I do not recommend this business.
