Deck Solutions We…read morehired Deck Solutions to tear down an existing deck and build a new one. Andy is a very likable man and talks the talk. We used him for the deck inspection before we purchased our home and liked him. We did get another bid to tear down and build our deck and that bid was 10k more. We never saw a formal plan for the deck but we discussed in detail what would be done. No permit was pulled as the deck would not be attached to the house and it would have added to the final expense. In hind sight, we should have pulled a permit. I am not new to construction and had concerns early on with the layout of the supports for the deck. The holes were dug and the 4x6 posts were installed in the ground with concrete that was below grade and not crowned. I was unaware at the time that minimum code requires 6x6 supports and that our quote specified 6x6's. I trusted Andy. I also noticed that the supports were not aligned or level height. I spoke with Andy and he assured me that he knew what he was doing. As the work progressed, they were using nails instead of screws to attach the decking. I asked about this and was told that the screws would not last as long as the nails and that in recent years the quality of the screws had worsened. I began to question everything and started researching deck requirements in Tennessee. I learned that Dickson county uses IRBC 2017 requirements. The deck has to be built to code. Permitted or not. When the deck was completed it was not to code and is unsafe. I hired and engineer to inspect the deck and his report showed the major issues with the supports being incorrect size, improperly installed and the span in several places exceeded code. One area was not supported at all. The guard rail is improperly installed and not to code. I can move the railing without much force and parts of the deck are ten feet in the air. The joists are not correctly supported and over spanned in several areas. The stairs were not done to code, the gates don't work. Trying to be a fair man I sent a copy of the report to Andy. He argued that he knows better than the engineer but he said that he would make the repairs as time permitted. He and Waylon came out several times and added some supports, tried to fix the gates and added some structure to the weak areas. The last time they came out was kind of an FU! The upper gates are worse than before and I don't trust them to do anything. In hind sight I would not let them build a dog house. We payed north of $22,000.00 and I have to rebuild my new deck. The nails make it so I will have to ruin most of it taking it apart. Do not use this company. They are not qualified.

HMC Contracting - New enclosed sunroom

I don't know how the other positive reviews came about, because our experience with HMC Contracting…read morewas pretty bad. We had our enclosed patio redone... It took forever, and once we were in the process I couldn't wait till it was over. It felt like the Three Stooges were sent to do the work. The painting had to be redone several times -- their "team" clearly had no idea what they were doing. We had to have them rebuild the door at least twice, because the quality was truly subpar. Six months later, the door is already showing age (see photo). They were careless with the space (inside the patio, and in the surrounding garden). They never cleaned up after themselves. I had to entirely cut back one of the plants behind the patio because it was so badly broken. I'd find nails and debris around outside that I would have to throw away; they brought plastic, but barely covered our patio furniture (so I did that myself); and they broke one of our side tables. Attention to detail was absent -- I've attached photos of just SOME of the trim corners that do not match up -- there are gaps instead. Chad and his son Adam were nice enough, but we were paying for something that should've looked excellent in the end. It looks OKAY (if you don't really look at the details), and it was no fun getting there. I would absolutely suggest using a different contractor.

I was working at the property the same day they were there, and I never saw them break for more that a few minutes (far less than I would have for sure). Overall a great experience and I would certainly recommend them to anyone, In fact, I hope to be able to use their services again soon.

I asked to speak to the owners so that they would know about the inferior materials and unskilled workers that were sent to my home. I asked the salesman "Tate" for a new driveway gate with materials of equal grade or better than what was existing. Tate told me that you all don't do jobs for less than $2,500. So in addition, I asked for a pedestrian gate centered on the front door and to replace the wood gate on the south side of the house. They cut my previously existing fence that was level and in excellent condition and placed the gate in the wrong position. Lawson told me that it was only about seven inches off and they could fix it? Cut more and then patch work it? They removed the top rail of my once level fence and did not reattach the fencing to it. They didn't try to make it level as it was before they cut it. They cut the bottom tension line and did not reattach it. They installed the posts in the dark and the next day pushed, with much force so that the gates did not swing into the street. They're not plumb and now they swing in. The posts and driveway gate that they installed are not equal grade material to what was there before. The post aren't the same and the gate now looks like an unlevel, uneven, unfinished, low grade, industrial, makeshift, rusting already containment stucture. I tried to speak to the supervisor "Lawson" and lead worker "Omar" about the the wood gate not being level and he(Omar) threatened me standing not even 2-3' away. The rest of the workers looked shocked but did nothing. I told Lawson about it and I filed a police report. 11 MARCH 2026: "VETERANS AND WOMEN OF COLOR BEWARE????" THEY HAVEN'T FIXED ANYTHING.
