From the outside, the shop is easy to miss, but step inside and you'll find a beautifully designed space with pastries that look just as elegant as the setting. Their flagship item is the éclair, though they also offer chocolate bars, tarts, and other finely crafted pastries. The young woman working during my visit was warm and welcoming--she spoke both English and French, which made ordering easy--and she happily answered our questions about ingredients and flavors. I chose a lavender tart, which was as delicious as it was striking in presentation--perfectly balanced in sweetness with a wonderful texture. Most pastries, including éclairs, are around $7 CAD each. While slightly on the higher end, the quality and artistry more than justify the price. A few small tables inside make it easy to sit and enjoy your pastry on the spot. If you're exploring Mont-Royal Avenue and craving something refined and memorable, Mont Eclair is well worth the stop.

Uncle Tetsu is a Japanese bakery in Montreal that specializes in its famous soufflé-style…read morecheesecakes and other freshly baked treats. The shop is small and designed primarily for takeout, creating a simple, efficient experience from the moment you walk in. One of the first things I noticed was the smell of warm cheesecake coming from the ovens, and watching each cake get stamped before being boxed added a nice touch to the experience. The original Japanese cheesecake was the highlight of my visit. It had an incredibly light, fluffy texture that was somewhere between a soufflé and a traditional cheesecake. Unlike a dense New York-style cheesecake, this one felt airy and delicate, with just enough sweetness to let the rich egg and cream cheese flavors stand out. I also tried the chocolate cheesecake, which added a deeper chocolate flavor while keeping the same soft, cloud-like texture. The bakery also offers a selection of smaller pastries that are worth trying. The cheese tart had a flaky, buttery crust filled with a warm, creamy cheese filling that was slightly richer than the cheesecake itself. I also liked that they offered madeleines and rusks, which make easy treats to enjoy later alongside a cup of tea or coffee. The ordering process was quick and well organized, even with a steady line of customers. Since the shop is geared toward takeout, everything moved efficiently, and receiving the cheesecake while it was still warm made the experience even better. Although there is no indoor seating, it is an easy place to stop by when you are in the neighborhood. Overall, Uncle Tetsu is a great destination if you are looking for a light, delicate dessert that is different from a traditional cheesecake. The freshly baked cheesecakes, quality pastries, and efficient service make it a bakery I would gladly return to whenever I am in Montreal.

It goes without saying that when I first saw Uncle Tetsu in my feed that I was beyond intrigued. Combine that with a general awareness of Japanese-styled cheesecakes, I was eager to come here but reluctant to stand in line, especially during a Montreal winter. Luckily, my sister had already been here (although she did get lost even with guidance from Google Maps) so she led the way. The storefront, located near Shaughnessy Village/ Concordia University, is tiny, reminding me of some doughnut shops in downtown Chicago. The front of the store accommodates one line so if you get claustrophobic, best if you send in a friend. From the line, you can see the ovens where the cheesecakes are baked and the counters where they are stamped and cooled. During the holidays, a Santa is stamped onto the cheesecakes. The line was mercifully short, especially before the holidays, and it moved quickly because there isn't a huge selection to trip up the undecided of the world. We soon left with a tiny cheesecake, enough to feed 4, in its distinctive red and white box, and 4 honey-flavored Madeleines. The fresh-from-the-oven cheesecake was light, in taste and texture, and fluffy. I liked that it was not as sweet as the cheesecakes I more accustomed to tasting, nor as heavy. The Madeleines had a coarse crumb and a crunchy crust. It, too, was subtly flavored. My sister especially appreciated that the small operation creates their products on the premises, rather than shipping them in from another location.

All three flavors we tried were delicious, but the Red Velvet were the best! The other two flavors we had were Chocolate Hazelnut (good), and Mocha (a tad on the dry side). It's great to have gluten, dairy or soy free options! They offer vegan options also!

Disappointing. It's an Italian bakery with some French pastries mixed in (don't ever try to go to a…read morebakery that does both). I avoided the French stuff, and went for the Italian pastries to check their quality. Lemon Bomboloni (cream filled doughnut) - disgusting. It was pure, cold cream, no lemon flavour. Took one bite, tossed it. Dough was decent though. Pistachio Bomboloni - delicious. Very pistachio like and the only reason why it's getting 2 stars and not one. It was very good. Soft, fresh, well made. Lemon biscuit - dry as the Sahara desert. I ate it anyway because I was hungry and I wasted $14 on 3 treats, one of which I had to throw away. Would I come back? Yes for the pistachio doughnut. No to the rest though I may give some other Italian pastries a try. Typical, overpriced bakery serving rich people who have no sense of what is a good bakery or not, just that it's convenient, much like that bakery on Sherbrooke (Pugastel) that I can't even figure out why and how it stays in business due to its dismal offerings. This one at least, has a good pistachio doughnut.

They also have a great selection of lovely pastries, my favourites are the ones topped with lots of fresh fruit. I don't know where they're sourcing those lovely berries from in this season, they're always huge and juicy! The pastry cream is always lovely, rich, and smooth. I also really enjoyed their cannoli. They also offer a lot of ready to heat italian meals, like canelloni (my favourite so far) with a soft cheese filling, chicken parmesan, eggplant parmesan, and cannelloni made from eggplant(?) Not sure what the name is. The food is decent but I'm not a huge fan of the eggplant. The eggplant itself is a bit tough and underseasoned. The chicken was a bit dry. But ready prepared food is never going to be the same as fresh restaurant quality - it's good for what it is. Altogether a very nice place.
