My office recently moved next to Debs so I've been eating here a few times a week. Food is amazing and you can tell the ingredients are quality. They have rotating soups and hot entrees, all of which I've tried have been great. They also have salads, made to order or grab and go, and sandwiches. I'm not sure why so many of these reviews are negative...and even if they're decent reviews, I'm not sure why they're stingy with the stars (some of these reviews literally read great service, great soup, great salad, awesome cookies...3-stars, what!? Another one reads good food, quick service, and wide selection...3-stars?) The things that stand out here, like many of the reviews below suggest, are: - Good, homely, comfort food - Super nice service and staff - Wide selection Had the breakfast wrap with eggs, mushrooms greens, and mozzarella cheese. It was plain and simple yet was hearty and tasted good and left me feeling pretty healthy. They really loaded it up - the wrap-to-filling ratio was pretty generous. On the go, I also got the red velvet cookie with white chocolate chip as well as the carrot cake. Cookie was decent, but the carrot cake was where Deb's shined - very moist, not overly sweet, and the carrot shreds and nutty interior added a great texture oomph. The customers are all regulars here - that says something about the quality here. They all seem to have their go-to orders whether it's the make-your-own-oatmeal or the coconut cream cake. This place is a hole in the wall, and it's sort of hard to find, so I imagine they have to get a lot of loyal repeat customers to stay afloat. Deb's is simple and good. Stopped by to grab a quick breakfast. The neigbhourhood seems to be lacking with healthier food joints. The place is small and cute with very less seating capacity. The staff seemed to be busy with their own chit chat. I grabbed an egg sandwich with chesse and fruit cup. The place is ok but nothing special about it. read more

Deb's, you're so solid. One of my solid salad lunch bar spots. It's a walk in, shovel into your box and weigh, pay and walk out. My faves: garlic cumin baby carrots (yes), gently marinated raw kale salad with shaved parm, dates and slivered almondds, raw brussel sprout salad with pomegranates and chopped hazelnuts, and the quinoa with roasted butternut squash and mint! The guys always throw in a multi-grain bread with the salad bar purchase. AND it's so cheap. I have yet to take down any pastries and I would love it if they started carrying GT's Kombucha. Deb's is on the first floor of the building I work in, making it the most convenient stop for me to grab something on my way in. Here are two reasons I'm giving it one stinking star. 1. I get the same thing every time. Every time, it costs a different amount. It's never off by much, but it's never the same leading me to believe they make up their prices as they go. Bad customer experience. 2. Their $5 minimum for debit card purchases. I'm aware of the fees that CC companies tack on to small businesses, and that still sucks. But when something gets rung up for $4.96 and the guy says "five dollar minimum" when my coffee has been made and bagged up, makes me want to tear my eyeballs out. Bad customer experience. read more

I work in this building and was a fool before to think that this was the best I could do during rainy/snowy lunch hours. Oh hells nah! Moving back to New York this winter to live in an apartment void of character, in an area lacking diversity and vibrancy New York usually spews (Roosevelt Island), and living with an anti-social stranger, my sense of place was rapidly fading. Then, I became a regular. At Deb's. I originally found Deb's searching for non-$tarbucks coffeeshop that offered soymilk, and only became more joyful to find their limited menu reasonably priced for the area, full of flavor and variety, and seasonally dependent. While I normally skimp and pack my own breakfast and lunch, their granola and hot/cold bar, not to mention regular lunch menu, is worth the splurge on those days when a meeting requires a bit more from you, or a hangover is shoving you into your desk. Sometimes, admittedly, paying up the wazoo for a variety of cold salads from a deli will seem, well, insane. But then I remember, what you're paying for is often organic produce, cooked daily and with care, healthy and balanced without sacrificing character. And a sidenote, their daily menus for the week are posted online, which is helpful. The employees knew me after two consecutive days, making my large coffee with not-too-much soymilk before my hand even reached the door every morning. Conversations we've had, getting to know their names and their history, a bit about their families, their opinions on everything from reggaeton to running on a treadmill vs. in the morning...these are what makes a community, not just a well run business. read more

From the outside, this place looks like a dump, but in actuality, it's a cute little place with fresh and tasty food. The prices can be a little high, but the service and food is worth the extra dollar or two. Their salads are great - the guy even cut a fresh avocado for me, not one that was just sitting cut up in the salad tray all day long. Great soup selection (try the split pea), also offering daily entrees. They take credit cards, which is a bonus, but there isn't much place to really sit and enjoy if you're there with others. read more

Good quality food, and some of the options are decently priced, if you know what you're looking for. Small soup and half a panini is $6. A hot entree with a generous side helping of one of half a dozen options is around $10. For breakfast, an omelette with potatoes and toast is $5. Sandwiches and wraps are half-price after 4 PM or so. Complaining about the price of sodas? You probably shouldn't be drinking one anyway. Staff are friendly, but it often feels like there are too many of them back there. Seating is one bar at the window, making it a less than ideal place to sit and have lunch. However, for grabbing a quick bite and heading straight back to the office, it's certainly ideal, and for that reason it became my go-to lunch spot. I love the soup options and and soup and panini combos - def great bang for your buck! Also great that it is a local spot, and the guys have personality. A good lunch spot, albeit overpriced, as many are in the area. Debs is where I go if I'm getting a lunch salad... Lots of ingredients, they'll chop it, and it's not as pricey as other places in the area, although its close. Deb's stands above the rest with their hot food menu. Every day they have hot sides and entrees, like pot roast, meatloaf, etc., and those portions are actually pretty good. I've never gotten a hot meal and remained hungry when I was done... Heck, I've been unable to finish a couple times. There are a few soups that they rotate daily. I've had only a couple, the split pea and the turkey chili being the best. The sandwiches are either paninis or cold pre mades, and for the price I'd avoid them... Getting Hungry across the street is a much better option for sandwiches. read more

I've been frequenting Deb's in the morning for their egg white omelets. But I might cease these visits due to the lack of hustle and listening. I always have to repeat my order and I find that there is no rush in creating my omelet. I'd like to see them putting my ingredients in the bowl and let them be on their way so I can be on mine. Know the math for the omelet, hand me my number and let me pay. If they could streamline this process I'd return again. __________________________ Deb's is located on the first floor of the Graphic Arts Center, I come here regularly for their salads. The staff is always on their feet, ready to serve the next available customer and they are super friendly. It's a small place, only 3-4 chairs to sit and eat lunch - perfect to grab and go back to my office. The soups are hit and miss but the guys who make my salads are always consistent and whip them up in a flash. Lastly, the cookies although expensive ($2.25) are my weakness.... They seem to have okay salad materials but coffee is standard deli swill, my bagel was barely toasted and they were nearly out of all but plain cream cheese. Deb's is an immaculate spot to stop into on my walk through Soho in the mornings before work. This place has everything - full bacon/eggs/etc grilling aspect along with a little bakery area, coffee and such, and some solid salads, soups, pastas. Its quaint, the staff are friendly, and I can get eggs, potatoes and toast for like $5. Go here after 12 and its absolute chaos, and you'll leave $12 lighter with a soda and a half sandwich. I've been going here regularly for years. Love this joint for so many reasons. Primarily because everything is so fresh and has that homemade-from-scratch vibe. My favorite meals: breakfast omelette (dump some of their homemade hot sauce on it!), and Taco Tuesday tacos (also dump their hot sauce on them!). There are quite a few taco's available in the area, including food trucks. But when it comes to Tuesday lunch, I go here every week. read more

I'm the head of a company in their building and tried to give a small friendly hello and each of the two on different and more than one occasion when we moved in and they were simply unfriendly. There aren't many places around here that are open for breakfast before 8 and are reasonably priced (I don't count McDonalds since it is not real food). For lunch there are better, tastier options. Top bacon egg and cheese! I am a bacon egg and cheese connoisseur, and having sampled 100s during my life, Deb's comes out near the top. They toast and then griddle the bun with a little bit of butter so it's nice and soft, and the cheese is always perfectly melted into the egg. I can't speak for their other food but it looks delicious. Oh, and Juan makes the some of the best hot sauce I've had. It's a nice deep and flavorful heat but not overwhelming...wish they sold this for me to take home. read more

The people who work there are nice for the most part, but its overpriced and the bacon egg and cheese sandwiches barely earn the right to be called bacon egg and cheese sandwiches. Went in for a quick oatmeal before a meeting. Small oatmeal is $2.75. Fair. Saw they had some toppings available so asked for walnuts, dried cranberries and a bit of granola. Cashier adds an additional $2.25. For a few walnuts, some crumbs of granola, and some cranberry. Not only was it unclear that i would incur further cost, but the price point, relative to amount, was just greedy. No need to nearly double the price over a few bits of topping. read more

Waited 15 min in the AM for a breakfast sandwich (egg, cheese, sausage on rye). After 15 min, told me they had no more sausage. I settled for bacon, and when I got to work, discovered it was on a roll. I've been here for lunch twice, and both times left me with an empty unsatisfied feeling. The first time I got a soup and some mac and cheese. The soup was ok, but he Mac and cheese was cold. Cold! Also, the bread that came with the soup was stale and gross. For the 2 items, it cost me over 10 bucks. The second time I went, I got a soup and salad. The soup was one of the worst I've ever had. It was called chicken Thai, and it was basically 4 pieces of chicken in a large container of broth. The salad was a simple ceasar, but it had almost no taste, the dressing and cheese were bland. Also cost me almost 11 bucks. There are so many better cheaper places to eat at in the area, I don't think I'll ever be going back. read more

I stumbled upon Deb's today and I have to say, it was really tasty. There aren't many creative lunch options in this neighborhood without spending a boatload of cash so I was happy to find a reasonable, fresh alternative. I will make sure to try their Breakfast menu. read more
