Deceptive billing practices hidden behind a "family safety" sales pitch. I recently brought my 2018 Infinity Q50 here for an agreed-upon $89.00 A/C check. Once they had my car in the shop they pushed an extra $115.00 manual labor charge, claiming they "could not" use a diagnostic scanner port in my car because every electrical component had to be checked individually. I questioned that and was told that the port in my car would not read "broken wires, bad ground or power supply." The upcharge was paid for and I drove home. When I got home i did some research and as I suspected their claim was completely false. A 2018 Infinity HVAC computer instantly generates diagnostic codes like open circuit or short to ground and the power supply. The standard, legal procedure in New Jersey is to plug the scanner in under the initial agreed-upon fee of $89.00 first, pull codes, and then present the findings to the customer to request authorization for further manual labor. Instead they skipped the standard legal procedure to manufacture additional labor hours, completely bypassing required procedure. After contacting the service manager by email and giving them the opportunity to refund the upcharged amount they maintained their position even though their own documentation proves my claim to be true. I am filing a formal complaint with the New Jersey division of Consumer Affairs and initiating a credit card dispute for deceptive upcharging. Watch your paperwork very careully here. They claimed their scanner was of no use onmy car and could not read the required codes to diagnose my A/C correctly. My vehicle uses an entirely computer-controlled electronic variable compressor, meaning their advanced scanners are precisely the tools designed to read these electrical faults. They used their advertised "High-Tech" Certifications to justify a "Bait and switch" price upcharge tactic. They refused my written request for a partial refund in writing. Chris called me updating me with the issues. Explained how much money it was gonna cost. His staff is very friendly and helpful explaining the problems. These are my go to guys. They are thorough and watch out for your safety. My car was towed in because I had a bad misfire and the vehicle could not be driven. That in itself would have been a cheap fix.. they did find several other things that were safety related, a control arm and ball joints. They had some other suggestions for things to be done, but they were suggestions. I could have them done there or go elsewhere. I explained that for other services, I used someone else because they were cheaper, and it was not a safety concern more than a maintenance concern. They had no problem with that whatsoever and completely understood. I don't understand one of the previous reviews because my car is 20 years old and they had no problem taking care of it and making it safe for me. Unless it is something really exotic like an older Lamborghini or something like that, I think they will be happy to work on it. even though they are a little more than I might've paid elsewhere, I continue to go back because they are thorough and do a great job. I thought I made an appointment for a break job for 10 am. 4 hours later I get a very long e mail about everything on my car.now its too late to do the job I thought was being done at 10 am.I then find out I have to bring a 50% payment for the job to be started.I leave work early to make it there by 5 o'clock.I then have to take the the next day off of work so my wife can take my truck to her job.1500 dollars later I now have front brakes.this was not a pleasant experience at all.Back brakes will be done elsewhere .I will not recommend getting work done here. read more

I was told last Friday, after I dropped it off Thursday night, that the cost would be $1500!!! Sorry for the long post but I want people to know my experience. Horrible from the get-go. I brought my truck in based on a family members recommendation & their reviews. I had been having problems with my a/c even after changing the condenser & evaporator elsewhere. Was charged $72 for a diagnostic check which wasn't fully done. Two leaks found, was quoted $635, I said I would have to bring it back the following week (times are tough). I was told my a/c system had been charged so I would at least have a few days with cold air, wrong. Not only that but after I went to pick up my keys from the diagnostic check my one mirror was broken. It was working before it was in their possession but when I picked it up I noticed the mirrors were folded in. When I went to unfold them the driver's side wouldn't budge. I didn't leave & called them out. The mechanic proceeds to tell me that he has to fold the mirrors in bc sometimes they get smacked on the lift & break BUT my mirror was broken bc it was a motor issue. If it was the motor why am I hearing rattling in it? Sounds like a piece broke off to me, that's NOT a motor issue. Despite that I called the following week as I was instructed to "remind" them to order the parts for my truck (not my job). I get a call a little while later saying they needs $285 for the parts. Thankfully I had it. I bring in the truck a couple days later. All day, no call. They finally call my husband around 2:30 pm saying one of the parts didn't arrive, they sent someone to get it & they're working on the truck now. Not even an hour later truck is done. I go to get my keys, test the a/c for 5 minutes, it's cold. The weather was gorgeous & I didn't need the a/c. The following Friday, exactly a week later, I turned the a/c on, HOT AIR!! I call them immediately bc now it's hot out & the weekend was going to be even hotter! Did I mention my truck is all black & just creates heat?? I was told they can't take my truck in to even look at it until Monday!! You would figure they would at least look at it since they didn't fix it. We go through the weekend, miserable! Drop the truck off Sunday night. They call my husband Monday morning & tell him I have another leak. Umm, why wasn't that leak found when the original diagnostic was done?! Hence the reason why I said above that it wasn't done. They show you pictures & this leak lit up like a Christmas tree!! No excuses for missing this initially. Then the girl who called him starts comparing it with heart blockages! WHAT?! My husband stopped her right there saying you can't do that & explaining why. My husband knows cars/trucks but doesn't have the time to fix it himself. She didn't know what to say when she realized my husband knew his stuff but got nasty with my him when he confronted her. They quote us another $1200!!! They said it's high bc they can't find an aftermarket part. The fix they did prior all they could find were aftermarket parts. Coincidence? Idk. There was no way we were going to pay that, we can get it done cheaper elsewhere & done correctly. So $72 for the diagnostic + $635 for what they supposedly fixed + $250-300 to replace my mirror which should be on them (still considering contacting a lawyer on that) = $957- $1,007 & NOTHING IS FIXED & DAMAGED WAS CAUSED. read more

My wife owns a 2004 Honda civic. She needed to pass inspection and her check engine light was on. I scanned her OBD-ll computer and the code was for the evap canister(non essential emissions, common issue). She chose Deboers because of the EXCELLENT REVIEWS! Deboers policy requires them to do their own diagnostic testing $155 despite knowing the problem (free service provided by all major auto parts suppliers). $1000 later She received a new sticker amd alleged evap canister. Shortly after the repair the light came back on along withxsame code. They requested to charge additional $155 for diagnostic and when she refused and explained that she had payed them to fix it already and then they claimed that the fuel tank vent valve could throw the same code?? This was a horrible experience and we would stringly recommend going elsewhere. Stay away! Or prepare to pay! read more

The staff are super friendly. However I was completely duped. A diagnostic was done on the car and I was told the cylinder head gasket needed to be replaced at $3,500, along with the radiator and timing belt totaling close to $5,000. I agreed to the repairs that were needed. The next day after I picked up my car, it stalled. I brought it back to Deboer's and was told the transmission was shot and needed to be replaced. Had I been told that in the first place, I would not have put close to $5,000 into a car with 145,000 miles. Then I had the car towed to a different mechanic to take a look at it. This mechanic assessed the car and stated that the transmission must have overheated because there was no transmission fluid and the coolant was filled with just water thus completely destroying the transmission. The biggest issue however was that they NEVER even replaced the cylinder head gasket. They saw a woman and they completely took advantage. Don't let their kindness fool you. I brought my car in for a squeaking, squealing noise. After being assured by the owner, Bill, that the noise was gone, it was still making the noise as soon as I picked it up. They misdiagnosed the problem and it cost me $700. I brought it back because I paid $700 and it was wrong of them to charge me that without fixing the problem I initially brought it in for. They then tell me what the "actual" problem is and expect me to pay another $350. Essentially over $1,000 for a problem that THEY misdiagnosed. In their notes they almost seem to be putting the blame on me, I am not a mechanic. I brought my car to them and paid for them to figure out what was wrong with it, and they miserably failed to do so, putting me out a lot of money. Not only did they not correct their mistake by fixing the issue they misdiagnosed for free, but I'm sure if I put out more money I would pick my car up and it would continue to make the same noise. I don't know if it's because I am a female and they expect to pull one over me or if their mechanics are just totally incompetent but I'm extremely dissatisfied with DeBoers. Buyer beware on Price gouging. I decided to stop in this shop to get a quote for a minor job as the reviews were high. What I wanted done. 1) change 4 ignition coils. 2) replace canister purge valve solenoid 3) replace vaper canister. I spoke with 2 young women at the front that were very condescending. Told front desk women what I wanted done. They proceeded to tell me the following. The mechanic will need to charge me $100 to run the diagnostic check. This is after I told them I know what is wrong. This shop only buys dealer parts too apparently. I asked if I could buy the parts myself and have the work completed. I was then informed labor rate will be double if this occurred. Initial quote was minimum $600 to possibly as high as $800 + $100 diagnostic test. What I ended up doing. I bought the parts for the job. Changed the ignition coils myself. Took 10 minutes to do this task. Went to another mechanic that charged me $100 for labor for the canister purge & vapor. My wife had a very unpleasant time at DeBoers auto. She went there for an inspection and they charged her 40 dollars and failed her for an O2sensor then went back and they charged her 40 dollars again so now 80 dollars and failed her again being very frustrated we went to the NJS inspection center where they were very nice passed the vehicle with no problems gave her a sticker till 2019 and above everything eles it's was FREE it's located in Newton NJ I recommend everybody goes to the NJS inspection center they are very nice and it's Free what's better then free I hope once reading this you reconsider and head to the New Jersey inspection center in Newton NJ thank you NJ inspection center for making life easier... pattern of overcharging people who need to pass inspection . perfect little scam customer who needs to pass inspection will be lied to with falls issues which usually add up to 1,000 dollars (always around 1,000 dollars) it happened to me I got an estimate for 1,100.00 to replace 3 sensors from DEBOER which I did not need . when I initially failed inspection dmv only failed me for 1 sensor . I replaced it my self for 58 dollars and passed inspection with flying colors . but they still scammed me out of 160 $ for nothing . I wonder how many elderly people DEBOER AUTO have scammed by overcharging or single parents or young people starting out their lives . I guess most people don't know much about cars and dont even realize what is happening. . DEBOER charged me 160 $ for services I did not ask for or need . My Deboers experience wasn't a bad one, I decided to go to them after receiving a mailer and wanted something closer to home. One thing I found inconvenient was I couldn't have my oil changed as a walk in and I was required to make an appt. they also required I fill out a questionnaire about my vehicle which when I didn't do so with the first email they had sent another email requesting it which I filled out cause of the annoyance, regardless I came back for my service. The girls up front are an absolute delight! The waiting room is also clean and comfortable. The oil change on my Acura took about an hour or so. I'm assuming they did great work cause I haven't had any motor issues. Following my service I was sent an email to take a customer survey which I know is typical but I didn't feel compelled. A week later in my mail I then received a hand written card thanking me for my business and to have a happy holiday. The card although thoughtful was a little overboard. Overall not a bad experience but their process and customer communications are too much! For me I like to just go in get out and be done. I brought my Saab in for an airbag recall and while I was there they ran an overall inspection to see if there was anything else I needed to take care of on my car. It was suggested that I change my cabin air filter, another filter as well as take the corrosion off my battery. Per my request, they took care of that for me on the same day as well as give me a print out of items that would eventually need to be taken care of in time. They also noticed that another Saab recall was still open and took care of that recall for me a few days later. Just took my 2005 Toyota Sequoia for an oil change. I also asked them to rotate the tires. The mechanic suggested that I replace a fog lamp that was out as well as the air filter (both which they had in stock). The work was done quickly while I waited and the staff was very courteous.
