We appreciate the opportunities our child had at this studio; however, bullying concerns were…read moreraised but not addressed. The CEO did not intervene and remained silent, and the parent of the student involved was not contacted until I addressed the issue myself. This dance studio struggles with communicating what respecting one another or accountability looks like as the unkind child still attends the dance school. It's not a coincidence that a few reviews on here mention the bullying issue and it going unaddressed. This led our family to move to a studio with clearer expectations for respect, accountability, and an age-appropriate classroom structure. Additionally, when families first join the company, new dancers are not allowed to perform during their first year. Parents are told this is because they are new and should observe the more experienced dancers, with the expectation that they will perform in their second year. However, families are still required to attend competitions and pay the associated fees for competitions even though their child does not perform. After doing some research, I learned that spectators are generally not required to pay these types of fees to simply watch competitions. As a result, the policy felt confusing and difficult to understand, especially since families are contributing financially to a competition team their child is part of but does not participate in competition dances during their first year.

The owner contacted me and apologized for the class not working out then reimbursed me for the remainder of the year. This is all I ever wanted so my advice moving forward, choose dance classes/ companies wisely, don't ever pay in full and endorse those that are obsessed with doing right by their clients. I am now a satisfied customer and very appreciative. This turn of events says a lot about the owner and the dance school.

Just like any school (academic or arts), there are teachers you may not love, but they're all very qualified. They have a wonderful holiday show and a recital at the end of the year. My daughter's been dancing there for 7 years and loves it more each year.

Great website with a good variety of classes and times. The place takes a non-refundable deposit…read morewhich is almost half the year's tuition before classes start. That would be fine if the place was good. Initially my child enjoyed class as the teacher was nice and encouraging. Payment for the entire year plus an additional costume fee for the spring recital which of course every parent wants to see their child(ren) in is due within 3 months of starting classes. All non-refundable. Now the class has become even worse, as the few students who have no attention span are completely disruptive and not improving in what would have been acceptable behavior in the beginning. The teacher who was nice in the beginning is no longer so pleasant. This could be understandable if she is frustrated by the lack of improvement but she spends all of her attention on one of the more disruptive kids and allows the kid's mother to come into the class (to help her kid?) further distracting the other kids. So now the place has collected all your money and you are stuck there for the rest of the year.

I have dealt with other companies and Kidz Theater took the time to really know my child and to not only develop her strength but to make her talent shine. I did not feel that it was just another company taking the money to have my child in the background. It didn't matter if it was a big or small part, the child is taught details of auditions and how to act professional through rehearsals of the show. I will recommend Kidz Theater to everyone. An actual ballet **school**. This is not the place to send your kid if you really don't care about…read moredance education. GSB is not about sequins, make up, competitions, or making kids dance to cutesy or age-inappropriate music. This is where you send your daughters and sons (Yes! Boys can do ballet, too!!) if you (and they) really want to study the art of ballet. Students are placed in levels based on skill, not age. The teachers are former professional dancers and amazing educators who know how to teach the fundamentals of ballet to young children and advanced techniques to older students. The Rutherford school has two studios, a small -- but well-loved -- living room-esque waiting area for parents, and a changing room for students. The no-frills annual concert allows students at all levels to show their families what they've learned in class, and everyone gets to take a bow. Pros: -Solid ballet education -Close to the 76, 190 buses and the Rutherford NJ Transit train station -Hand-me-downs available for students who can't afford new gear (or forget their shoes at home...) -Higher-level students can join the Youth Company and perform in the annual Nutcracker. -Dunkin Donuts is up the block Cons: -Parking (metered)
