Dean Kravitz, the director, shows interest in each child and oversees their learning and growth. We were at other schools before finding PTW and they couldn't compare. Samba Novo performed for my dad's…read moresurprise 80th birthday party on January 28th, 2023 & all I can say is wow wow wow!  I wanted to make it extra special & make it a very memorable one.  I knew I wanted to have Samba dancers at his party.    I was doing a search for Samba dancers & I came  across Samba Novo. I contacted them and spoke to the Director, Mr. Ron DeFrancesco. After speaking with him back and forth a couple of times, reading reviews  seeing videos and pictures,  I was excited & looking forward to their performance.  Seeing them on video & in pictures is one thing but having them perform at a party for you is something words cannot describe.From how they entered the room playing the drums to their whole ensemble the Samba dancers costumes, (which was so colorful & beautiful) the drummers, the Capoeira dancers it was  all truly mesmerizing. And the interaction they had with all the guests there from dancing with them taking pictures with them just so delightful nice fun & entertaining.  It was just mind blowing. They we're all very nice, professional,  happy and just delightful. Ron Defrancesco ( director/founder) performed as well & he and his group of drummers, the beats that they performed shook the whole room.  You could feel the energy from the drums, the dancers & performance  go through your bones. I cannot speak to the samba dancers at this company but the Caribbean limbo dancers that I hired…read morethrough this agency were extremely young, unkempt, and delivered an amateur performance. I expected limbo and theatrics - on par with what you would see at a Caribbean resort or cruise ship. Instead, the girls (who were no more than 18 years of age), performed sub par choreography for most of the session with minimal limbo work. The one girl who actually did limbo knocked the pole down with her hair bun on her first attempt to go under. Another had the top of her underwear exposed throughout the entire 2nd performance. To make matters worse, when Ron asked for my feedback on the show he became extremely defensive and unprofessional after I shared what was intended to be constructive criticism. If you are looking for an authentic limbo ensemble I would highly suggest you look elsewhere. Definitely not worth the $1300 that I was charged for two 30-minute performance sessions.

After my gym membership expired, I started looking for a studio that taught the art of belly dancing and that's how I found Serena Studio. I've been going there since 2003. In that time, Serena Wilson, the owner of the studios and my first teacher there, passed away in 2007. Her husband, son, and daughter-in-law have taken over operations. (Scott Wilson is also a very talented and renowned oud player.) At $12/class, pricing is very reasonable for an hour-long class led by a professional belly dancer. (It was $10/class for many years.) The classes are discounted if you pay for more than one class at one time (by buying a class card). The class levels start at beginners all the way to performing. There are large classes that can range in attendance of 5 students to about 20, and they also offer private lessons which are more expensive. The studio also advertises and hosts numerous belly dancing events every month. The events give the students opportunities to perform in front of live audiences. Some of the instructors were former students who are now performing professionally. The studio also has a closet-size boutique that sells costumes, hip scarfs, veils, and zils at reasonable prices. I've only taken large classes at Serena's (I took private lessons when I went to Istanbul). The classes can either get very crowded or have very low attendance. Like a previous reviewer wrote, there are a couple of teachers who seem a little snotty. My favorites are Kelly, Ivette, and Wanda.

Last year {2023} I had Major Surgery and went through several months of rehabilitation . Knew I had to continue some types of exercises and my income was limited . So I decided to go back to The Kennedy Dancers Classes In the beginning it was hard for me to keep up with the different movements in each class. As time went on and the encouragement from the teacher Erik and Gigi (Diane-the Executive & Artistic Director) and others I kept coming to the classes. I've come a long way, maybe I'm not as fast ,but I'm getting there. I'm Thankful for the Kennedy Dancers and the funds and grants that are given to them by N.J. State Council on the Arts and hope they and others continue to help fund the Senior Program so the Seniors that are on a limited income can keep attending the classes.
