Specialties
At Broadway Bound we specialize in Dance, Voice and Musical Theatre. What started as a program to teach our two children the ins & outs of Musical Theatre has blossomed into a thriving TripleThreat Performing Arts Center. We consider Broadway Bound an inspiration & solution to all those budding performers who seek a place to belong and nurture their gifts with professional guidance and skill. Having had successful Broadway careers, we know the importance of a multi-faceted performer and we strive to encourage ambitions, foster talent, and at the same time secure their childhood. We know the risks of exposing children to the rigors of auditioning. At Broadway Bound, we offer excellent training, but also create a safe space for students to explore and cultivate their talents without fear of judgement. We encourage students with high potential to join our studio, but we also cater to ANY enthusiastic kid who merely wants to explore performance art, voice or dance. So ALL LEVELS are welcome. We're not a cutthroat, competition school. We encourage belonging, solidarity and kindness and believe our students reflect those ideals. This is their second home, and we feel privileged and proud to say so. Many of our graduates have gone on to Broadway, TV & Film. Sofia Black D'Elia (The Mick, Gossip Girl) Melissa Fumero (Brooklyn Nine-Nine) Angela Brydon (Footloose, Wicked) Jimmy Smagula (The Full Monty, Grey's Anatomy) Shevaun Kastl (Heroes, Revenge, Criminal Minds) to name just a few...
History
Established in 1989.
Broadway Bound was conceived as a Workshop Program designed by Broadway Vets Paul and Maureen Kastl, to train their children and kids of similar ages in the art of song and dance. Every year, kids between the ages of 10 and 20, performed in an original, educationally-based, full-scale production for general audiences as well as hundreds of school children in the tri-state area. The response was amazing. The Workshop expanded and became a full-fledged dance and theatre-arts school. We now boast a full schedule of classes: Ballet/Jazz/Tap/Lyrical/Contemporary/Hip-hop/Musical Comedy/Voice/Piano along with Adult Classes and Intensives in Acting, Scene-Study and Private Coaching. We still have the Workshop Program, which is at the very heart of our Studio. This year we are currently casting and will be performing an Original Musical entitled "Brooklyn" which tells the story of the colorful and proud people who inhabit the historical New York City borough in the 1930's.
Meet the Business Owner: Maureen Cavanaugh K.
Maureen Cavanaugh Kastl was a born-performer. Raised in Dearborn, MI, she began performing in community theater and quickly went on to teach and run the City of Dearborn's Dance Program while still in high school. A few months after graduation, she earned her equity card in the musical, "The Unsinkable Molly Brown." Many shows followed: "Kiss Me Kate," "Guys and Dolls," "Promises Promises," and "West Side Story," where she met Mr. Paul Kastl, a true Broadway vet who had starred in many Broadway HITS like "Hello Dolly" and "Bye, Bye Birdie." The two met and fell in love and would go on to perform in and produce many Industrials, dance and performance companies. At the age of 20 Maureen was asked to stage the bus and truck company of "Promises Promises" in Michael Bennett's absence. Her talent for choreography took her down the path of directing and eventually, she founded Broadway Bound. Now in it's 30th year, she has written/choreographed/produced more than 20 original musicals.
