I'm just doing it for my parents" vs. "I want to look like I'm on Dancing with the Stars), a few sessions of just cleaning up the dance and also the opportunity to practice during their monthly party. Paz was so sweet and a great teacher. She explained things well and had fun ideas. The dance flowed very well and never felt too repetitive or too slow. Our lesson was for a…read moreFriday at 7:45 pm and scheduling was super easy - all you have to do is email them, and they are super responsive. For this session, they ask you a bunch of wedding-y questions like what you imagine your wedding to be like, what the reception area will look like, if there are any moves you'd want to incorporate, and how you want to feel during your first dance. Then they show you basic ballroom dance moves for the rumba, foxtrot (?) and I think one other one. It was nice because we knew what our first song would be so they were able to play it for us to practice to. It's also nice that it's per couple so you do get all the attention and feedback on what you're doing right/wrong. We didn't end up getting the 5 lesson package because they said the prices were only good for 24 hours and we weren't sure if we wanted to commit. Also at the point, there was probably only about 1.5 months until our wedding, so we thought it would be too rushed (but that's on us for thinking about lessons so late in the game). There are some group dance lessons, which we caught a glimpse of since we got there early, which look pretty fun! Maybe something I'd consider for after the wedding, just for something to do.

Danceology is an awesome, new dance school and ranks highly among the older more established school. My friends have children there and they are all praises, especially when they tell me stories about some of the other places. Danceology is in the same location of a former, reputable dance school. It was that was recently purchased by students of that school and transformed into Danceology. My friends and I all applaud them for making their kids learning something great and pushing their budding talents Now I am no expert, but my fiancee is and she digs it and has been able to tell me that my perception is dead on (YAY ME!). For kids - they can learn everything from ballet to hip-hop. I noticed that the instructor have fun and really know how to deal with all sorts of ages. I believe they are also teacher's in public schools when Danceology is closed, so that probably explains why they can teach so well. For adults they have adult classes, I think Flamenco and Zumba. My mother goes to Zumba 3 times a week - she has NEVER had this level of commitment to anything outside of the house in her life and now can't stop going! LOL. Now she even got my aunt out of the house and THAT is an accomplishment in of itself. I should send Danceology peeps a fruit basket for that achievement haha. It's easy to find, not expensive and run by young and energetic owners, both former students themselves.. I just like the fact that they are organized, offer a lot and rejuvenated a school that was slowly watching its sunset. If you have girls that like or seem to like to dance - definitely give this place a shot. This place is definitely not one of those cookie-cutter type spots. Very cool and I hope they take off (as if they already aren't).

Our experience with this studio was extremely disappointing. We were told that our 3 year old daughter was not ready to be in the "tiny tots" in her second class ever. In the first trial class we were told she had trouble staying in her area and taking instruction so we created a square area at home and practiced staying in it with youtube dance classes for a week. When it came time for the second class they allowed me to tune in via zoom so we could all be on the same page in determining whether she was ready to enroll or not. She stayed in her square almost the whole time with a couple hiccups that she quickly fixed and not unlike the other girls in the class who also stepped out briefly. She followed along in warm ups and participated often even if it took her a minute to process what was happening- remember 3 years old and second class! When it came time to practice the recital dance she was didn't participate much then it was concluded she wasn't ready period solely because of this. I was stunned! I felt like they weren't even willing to see if she'd improve and they didn't acknowledge at all the progress she had made in just a week. On top of this, one little girl who is already enrolled refused to go into the class and sat in the waiting room with the parents and another girl took the class via zoom and was sitting on her couch during warm-ups instead of participating. I am in no way chastising these little girls because that is exactly what they are- little girls! We are talking 3 and 4 year olds who are easily distracted, prone to being silly and sometimes moody. I felt like my daughter wasn't being extended the grace her age deserves and even being singled out when other children are being allowed to enroll and not participate yet mine is participating and told not to enroll. And let's be honest, anyone who has ever been to a recital and watches the toddler's performance know that it usually never goes exactly as practiced and is just something fun for them to do and possibly peak their interest for more serious dancing later on. Anyone who is willing to pay and has a child that shows interest and participates in most of the class should be welcomed with open arms. She had four months and multiple practices to learn and get better yet I walked away feeling like my child was being labeled as un-teachable. It's was extremely disappointing, and left me feeling sad and furious at the same time. Lucky to have found another studio the same day whose trial class will not be to judge my toddler's capabilities in order to enroll but purely to see if we like the studio.

Mario B is a fantastic teacher- his patience, expertise, and relatability are unmatched. Additionally he has created a structured, progressive and enjoyable curriculum that is tough but fair. There are the 6 week cycled classes (once a week) and also regular workshops/specialized classes to round out your learning. There are even Pre-Beginner classes (so no matter your skill level- anyone can learn to dance here.) SFOn2 also hosts a monthly student practice party so that you can ease your way into applying what you learn in class to a social setting. Enough cannot be said about the vibe too. I've been to prior schools where it feels intimidating and awkward. SFOn2 prides itself on creating a warm welcoming environment that is invested in the growth of the students (this extends to all the additional instructors and assistants - everyone is really nice!) The class sizes are smaller which is a major bonus- you get much more personalized instruction. Classes were fun, instruction was good in the ballroom, and the salsarobics were good for people who, like me, are not very active generally, but didnt really teach any dance moves. The group lessons are at the Knights of Columbus, private lessons might be held there as well, but wedding dance lessons were generally held in a small studio in Roberto's own home. We decided to sign up with Roberto for a trial solo dance class, to see if we liked him to choreograph our wedding dance. We decided to go for it, and we are really glad we did. The dance he customized for us went perfectly with our music, was beautiful to look at, made our guests cheer, and made us feel really good about ourselves. The instruction was exactly what we needed, Roberto made sure we had all our moves down 100%, and the package was very reasonable. I am not an easy person to please, I am less easy to teach, I have two left feet AND I cant follow a beat, and still I felt our dance was much more elaborate, and went much smoother than that of some of our friends who went to other dance instructors for a longer period of time ( and, I think, a higher cost). Couldn't be more pleased!
