Inconsistent turf quality, poor management of tee times and traffic and, now, a ****head general manager, Jeff Hastings. The Canyon Club used to be a good deal at $45 a month including free range balls daily, but then they took away some of the tee time discounts, limited free range balls to just once a week, and KEPT THE PRICE THE SAME. So, now that we've discussed just one of the ways the so-called GM doesn't know how to retain loyalty, let's discuss COMMUNICATION. None of these changes were adequately delivered to Club members. In fact, I'm in the majority when I say they didn't do a damn thing to let us know. Their own pro-shop employee told me that dozens of people were showing up to go to the range, and were told on the spot that their membership didn't include that now. Nice job, Jeff. When I emailed management about the changes (through their very own website!) they didn't even bother to respond...and no, I wasn't rude. I just said I disagreed with the policy changes. Not only is it 100% amateur of Jeff Hastings not to respond...it shows a complete lack of, well, ADULTING. On a positive note, the staff usually quite friendly and the course itself is interesting, in a muni sort of way. Honestly, fire the GM. That'll fix more than a few issues. read more

DeBell is definitely a hidden gem. They have kept things up over the years and it is definitely a fun course. Very nice pro shop and good restaurant with good food. Driving range is decent. Currently have every other stall open for social distancing, but it doesn't usually get overcrowded during mid day (not sure about early mornings or evenings). Only downside is that some of the stalls are slightly sloped, so if you're a righty you'll have an uphill lie (which is actually fine cause it helps the draw). One other downside is no chipping area, but they do have a good practice green for putting only. Overall a great golf course and I definitely recommend. read more

Had two golf carts die while being heckled by walkers that couldn't even see the balls being played. If this place was even remotely controlled/taken care of it would be nice. Joke of a course. read more

I'm not sure why there are so many people hating on this course. I've played this course a number of times, the staff is always friendly and accommodating, they have snack carts, great food at the clubhouse restaurant and well kept fairways and greens. This is one of my go to courses close to home. The fairways are pretty narrow, but then again this is nestled up in the hills. read more

DeBell Golf Club is simply a clean, cozy, middle-size, golf course with 5633 lengths, 71 par. The mountain views are nice. The parking spaces are a little limited with a nearby parking lot. Since it is on the top of the mountain, the lengths of each course are not long enough for pro golfers but joyful for most amateur golfers. read more

BEWARE!!!! Employee randomly slots in and tries to rush groups so he can get a game in for free before his shift... He is super disrespectful and was trying to get physical with PAYING customers, getting all up in their face. He was very condescending and rude, I was so shocked. He is a redhead that was wearing a white bucket hat. Management needs to do something about this ASAP. read more

Love this course! I travel all the way from the Westside to play the Twilight rates. You just can't beat the sunset and the deer all around here. Great rates -- although I wished I lived closer to take advantage of the membership. The driving range does look abandoned and could use a facelift but it gets the job done. The last time I went to the range the ball tractor apparently ran out of gas so all the golfers were in the field fishing for balls! Hilarious. Overall great course. read more

I have enjoyed playing at DeBell - the course is beautiful and interesting to play. Recently I've begun to take lessons from Ashley who works in the pro shop and her lessons have really improved my game! I also like to eat in the restaurant while gazing out on the course. The prices are reasonable and the quality of food is very good. It's nice to have such a great golf gem in the area! read more

A highly enjoyable course that is difficult and fun. It had been awhile since I have played and the amount of balls I lost would certify that. The course is in the hills so there are great elevation changes and you will need to lay up for the next shot. Or you can do what I did and try to drive the whole thing, and win some then lose a lot of balls. It's a laid back place and no one seems stuffy. The pro shop had nothing in there today and is need of some upgrades for sure. read more

I'm rating restaurant which is a GREAT location and view with good food. I don't golf but love eating there. Often see deer on the green.

This review is on behalf of my mom. She had lunch here a few days ago and was disappointed with the food. The chicken she had was not the best quality and the brownie for dessert was very old. On a previous visit the food was better, however, this establishment obviously has some quality control issues to resolve. The elevator was also acting up, so they will hopefully address that issue as well. read more

Food: was pretty good, pretty typical for the golf courses near me in NY. 4/5 Golf course: what a gem of a course. Took out a friend for their first time playing a whole game (they have been to the driving range plenty) and the course was forgiving enough for her. There were some very scenic holes, especially as the sun started to set. I would definitely want to go back the next time I'm in LA again Also super reasonable prices. 5/5 for the value read more

I played here today. My goal is to play every course in LA County, this was number 27. Friendly and helpful staff. Course was in good shape, as were the greens. It's a canyon course, so long, narrow fairways and a good amount elevation change. I've only been playing for a year and a half and I don't play full size courses very often, I mostly stick with the executive courses and the par 3s. So I have a decent short game, but my long game isn't great. So this course was rather challenging for me. I enjoyed my experience here and will come back after I've gotten better at longer shots. I ate at the clubhouse. The burger was alright. read more

Good golf course! It's very tough if you're new. Lot of slopes and hills, no water, but bunkers. I feel like it's a little more expensive then it needs to be and can get pretty crowded and backed up. Overall, enjoyed it and the range. Would come back! Beautiful views. read more

This is a very nice municipal course, as it is in solid condition. But for a shotmaking course like this, where yardage is so important, you gotta have accurate yardage markers or GPS. This course has neither. So you're guessing on shots that should be straightforward, which is just a shame. Also, the bunkers are inexcusable and dangerous. There should not be rocks all over the bunkers. It's unsafe and will damage clubs. Just a few small points of care and this could be one of the best public golf courses in the Los Angeles area. read more

This review is based on the fact that the place is a public course in LA County. And based on that premise this is about as nice, clean, and well managed as its gonna get. On par with La Mirada w/ less foot traffic and more remote location. Front 9 is very challenging w/ many a blind spot, but back 9 opens up very nicely. I wouldn't recommend this course for pure beginners, and even for us weekend, scratch golfers I recommend you bring atleast 6 balls cause you'll be losing em along w/your dignity one blind turn after another. I actually loved playing here. Service was excellent on and off the course. 5 solid stars. read more

I had the pleasure of playing at De Bell and although I didn't have my A game it's not fair to fault the course. The staff was great, knowledgable, and willing to paint a picture of the course overall but until you play a round it's an optimistic dream thinking you will conquer the course based off yardage alone. I did enjoy taking time out deer watching while my game was not as picturesque. Sometimes I felt like being at Knotts because of the uphill ride per hole and seeing nature throughout the course. The weather was a bit hot so the haze overshadowed the backdrop of the LA basin on occasion. THE COURSE-- fairways were great, the rough is exactly what it means 'rough' so my advice is to avoid this by any measure -- use irons and play conservatively. THE CLUBHOUSE -- spacious, reminds me of a log cabin in Aspen minus the window view of the slopes and falling snow. THE FOOD -- very good, typical order of chicken fingers (safe bet) and fries at the turn. The food was delivered hot and was not sitting under a heat lamp.. Kudos to the waitress on her job. STAFF/CLUBHOUSE -- friendly and nice, good people who care about serving customers with a smile -- THE GREENS - only problem I had the entire round was the Greens... Inconsistent -- for the avid golfer FIX YOUR BALL MARKS... The process takes maybe 10-15 seconds to fix or be a good sport and fix any mark you see not yours for the next golfer -- called golf etiquette -- Overall my buddy and I had fun, the drinks were flowing and we had a good time despite a few mental errors on the course time well spent.. read more

One of the best locations. Beautiful scenery and a pretty good staff in the starter shop. I hit a round here every time I am in town. BUT.....those tee boxes and greens need a lot of help and love. Not being an expert golfer I need any advantage I can get, but the chopped up greens made putting an exercise in obstacle avoidance. The tee boxes are so chopped up and mushy it makes it hard to place your tee. Please fix this course up and bring it up to it's wonderful potential. read more

I'm pretty new to LA, but I've played a few public courses. Most have patches of dry grass, views obstructed by driving range nets, poles, or toxic waste facilities. However, this one was an amazing surprise! If you're used to playing private courses, then it's not going to be amazing. However, if you play the cheaper public courses, I think this one takes the cake for being one of the best. It's nestled in the mountains of Burbank. This means that there are beautiful views of the valley. The grass is very well-maintained...especially the greens! I have to say that this course is not really for beginners. There are many turns and blind shots to the green. The sand traps are extremely well (or terribly) placed. If you're intermediate, this is a super fun course to play. You will not be bored. They also have nice electric golf carts to run around on. Best of all, it's reasonably affordable...$31/$46 with cart. You can make tee time reservations online! Make sure you bring a jacket if you're going early in the morning, cuz it can get CHILLY! read more

The course "looks" nice from a distance but that's about it. Tee boxes were shot to shit and not level. The worst part though is the maintenance guys just drive up and down the course while you're playing. Teeing off, putting, doesn't matter. They're driving around their mowers and firing up leaf blowers literally right next to you while you're shooting. You can do better in LA for 45 bucks. read more

This is a nice little course up against the hillside in Burbank. The fairways are mostly pretty narrow, so those with crazy drives will have a long day. The guys in the pro shop are cool and everyone is pretty lax for the most part. The parking lot can get full when crowded so you have to park on the street which can mean a hike up a hill. Just check in and you can take a cart to your car to load your clubs. The course is decently maintained and the views are great. The price is reasonable and I would highly recommend this place. There is also a clubhouse with a full bar and TVs if you just want to hang out there. read more

I am extremely critical of customer service. Debell has made major changes to the course in the last week. New cement for cart paths, sand complexes re-done and new sand in all traps, fairways are outstanding and today the greens were unbelievable. Easy parking , seniors aged 55 pay $35.00 and the pace of play and the views are great. The one last course that actually still has a marshall. Debell has greatly improved the quality of the course experience. No GPS Screens but everyone uses watches and phones for yardages. read more

The golf course is a city course so as city courses go, it's good. However the restaurant, now known as Hill Top is terrible and would not recommend it for anything. They decorate the plate with lettuce that has been under a heat lamp. Just don't put the lettuce or any decoration because by the time your hot food that has been under a heat lamp gets to your table, it's cold and the lettuce is wilted to a paste. Gross. They had 8 servers with nothing to do and the manager was running food. It was the most disorganized mess. I ordered the avocado toast. It was a piece of sour dough bread toasted on one side and a schmear of avocado, less than a bagel would have on it but you get two eggs. I think they used 1/4 avocado and two eggs. All for about $14. We asked for butter for the pancakes and it didn't come so I went to the wait staff and no one wanted to do much because the butter was in the freezer. Ha ha ha. I saw the kitchen and I am concerned about cleanliness too. Just an overall not so great experience. When will they find a good restaurant management company to manage this space? I just can't recommend them. It's been too many years of poor management to expect anything else. read more

I love and hate going to de bell. A great tee and approach shot can get away if you don't know how to control the greens. Definitely the biggest challenge to the narrow and sometimes long holes. It's a really fun course, and I'm content to shoot in the mid/high 90's here. My dream is to hit in the 80's here before I die. It will happen. Don't get frustrated at this challenging course. Awesome course! read more

Man I really love this golf course - I used to live less than 10 minutes away and came here all the time. Their rates are reasonable (especially for twilight and super twilight) and it is a fun course to play. It is deceptively tough, as it is easy to check the overall yardage and think the course is really easy, but this is NOT a course for high handicap golfers as you will lose a lot of balls and be frustrated. Most holes are narrow and tree-lined, and even though some of the par 4s are under 300 yards, they are still two shot holes as they are completely undrivable (holes 2 and 3 are perfect examples of this). Some of holes (8,10,11) are very difficult and there is a great deal of variety in the holes. You will definitely use all your clubs here! The course itself is so tranquil and quiet. You are alone up in the mountains, away from the city and at the top of the course you can't hear a sound besides the animals (I see deer every single time I am here and there are many other animals around as well) sometimes. It is a special place to play and just enjoy nature. If you play in the afternoons, especially on weekdays, it is not too crowded and I have finished a round walking in under 2 and a half hours which is sweet. It has a nice, pastoral feel with great views from several holes. The range is nothing special but serviceable. It is short and mostly just dirt landing zones, but the mats are usually nice and the balls are reasonably priced so I hit tons and tons of balls there over the years. All the employees I met were friendly and helpful. They also do club re-grips for only 2 bucks each which is pretty sweet! read more

Fun course, greens in good shape. The one star is based on the encounter i had with the bar manager. I follow all the signs leading up to the snack bar window, order 2 beers, paid and left a 20% tip, and returned to the 10th tee box. As I'm approaching the tee box, the bar manager comes out of the clubhouse yelling and asking me if I paid for my beers. To which I answered yes, and asked why he was accusing me of stealing. He then explains that I was supposed to go downstairs to pay. I explain that I left my money with the person who gave me the beers as well as a tip. So now the person I gave the money to along with the bar manager are all standing by the tee box having this discussion in front of all my family and other groups of golfers on the putting green. Eventually, the bar manager realizes I in fact gave my money to the employee standing there and we go ahead and finish our round. Not being able to leave without saying something, I spoke to the GM who said he had heard about the encounter. Yet, if I would've left and said nothing they would've totally let it go. One would think someone should've been waiting for us on 18 to apologize for such an embarrassing encounter. Having been in the service industry before, I think I would've comped the group a round of drinks or a round of golf. Actually a prepared apology would've even been nice. This place needs some lessons on customer service. read more

2nd time I played and it made me remember why I did not go back for 10 years. It is bad enough that there are many blind shots cut around a mountain, INCLUDING A PAR 3, the greens are slicker than the Masters! And false fronts, pins put on the side of swales on the greens, balls that roll 30 and 40 feet backwards and to the side, 10+ foot breaks on putts. I mean I was looking for the windmill hole on 18, LOL. It is just a terribly awkward course that was not fun to play. There is even a false front on the practice green where many golfers, including myself, where chasing our balls down a hill into the street!!! C'MON MAN!!! Not pretty, not pleasant, poorly maintained and crazy greens. There are plenty of convenient nicer places to play than this lump of coal in the heart of Burbank. read more

Read my prior reviews for specifics on the course layout. I was seriously disappointed with the course maintenance today. The course is "beat up from the feet up" with torn up fairways. Patchiness, divots everywhere, yellow burned out grass are commonplace in fairways so I won't bother going into the usually more neglected "rough". The GREENS were tough to play and not in much better condition than the fairways so needless to say even an above average putter was "screwed at the drive-thru" today. If you enjoy dog legs, you will enjoy this course. "Big bombers" will not... The topper were 2 separate displays of "Darwinism at its not-so-finest" with 2 different coyotes digging deep into bunny rabbit holes. In both incidents, the coyote retrieved a tiny bunny and began to tear away at the flesh and digesting them in 3 minutes or less. Yes, this is "perfectly normal, perfectly healthy" but given the mediocre course conditions, this simply epitomized the kind of day we experienced. "Good times"... read more

If you are interested in going to a golf course where the unemployed/retired assholes meet for their gossip, and a rude management, De Bell should be your fist choice! Unfortunately, a such beautiful and large golf course is filled with rude and irritated people that mind everything except their own business. My friends and I had a great time, except the few incidences in which we received rude remarks, comments, and attitude from obnoxious and impatient people. We were fairly new at the game, however we, just as they, were waiting for the people in front of us. However, due to us being younger and inexperienced, we were treated rudely. Although there was not too much to be happy about about the overall harsh ambiance of the course, the grille was great with great food and service. If I could give a half star, I would. read more

Great course but very difficult ... challenging I would say ... I mean you have mountains on one side and slopes and narrow fairways ... geeezus Christ anything else? ... I lost about 5-6 balls ... there are about 2-3 holes that you can't even see the flag ... one hole in particular you have to ring the bell to let the next players know your finished .... other than that ... nice course great upkeep ... fast greens ... bring extra balls ... have fun enjoy read more

I wanted to write a rebuttal to Dog C's review. This was his review: Customer service is not very good. I played there yesterday and the marshal got mad at me for complaining about people in front of us being too slow. He actually said "...Fu** You! " and than threatened to kick me off...as he got out of his car. My golf partner had to put his arm out to stop him from approaching me! He got mad at me because I said he was not listening to my side! Can you imagine using that kind of language with your customer. I complained to the manager and he was not exactly shocked...he took more of a "what ever" attitude. I probably wont' play there again. The actual truth to this story is that Dog C hit up on us while we were putting on the 7th hole. A woman in my group had asked his group several times to keep quiet as we were playing in the Burbank City Championship. I guess this immature guy didn't like being told to respect us by a woman, so he decided to fly his ball onto the green just missing several of us. The marshal was right there and immediately drove over to the guys on the tee box. Maybe he said something he shouldn't of, but this group of golfers were very rude as evidenced by one of them talking on their cell phone while I teed off on hole #17. Trying to do bodily harm to someone because they told you to be quiet on a golf course is just plain wrong and I hope this guy finally tells the truth and plays somewhere else. read more

Course is really short and tight. Lot of short holes and lots of par 3s. Course started backing up and the Marshall harassed us to "keep up". He didn't bother to check that the next tee had 2 groups stacked up. Customer service gets -1 star for that one. Bring a few sleeves of balls. I even lost a couple of balls from poor course management. Sucks to be long and straight with your drives on this course. Do yourself a favor and leave the big stick at home. You can book a tee time at www.golfnow.com Course conditions: Fairways - tight and short - lots of dogleg - errant tee shots get lost in barrancas - long hitters are not welcome here. Tee off with mid-irons for most of the par 4s. Greens - Multi-tiered greens make 2 putting difficult - lots of false front greens. Pretty decent shape, but kind of slow. Water - very few water holes - doesn't come into play at all Range - decent range read more
