DeBell is definitely a hidden gem. They have kept things up over the years and it is definitely a fun course. Very nice pro shop and good restaurant with good food. Driving range is decent. Currently have every other stall open for social distancing, but it doesn't usually get overcrowded during mid day (not sure about early mornings or evenings). Only downside is that some of the stalls are slightly sloped, so if you're a righty you'll have an uphill lie (which is actually fine cause it helps the draw). One other downside is no chipping area, but they do have a good practice green for putting only. Overall a great golf course and I definitely recommend. read more

I'm not sure why there are so many people hating on this course. I've played this course a number of times, the staff is always friendly and accommodating, they have snack carts, great food at the clubhouse restaurant and well kept fairways and greens. This is one of my go to courses close to home. The fairways are pretty narrow, but then again this is nestled up in the hills. read more

BEWARE!!!! Employee randomly slots in and tries to rush groups so he can get a game in for free before his shift... He is super disrespectful and was trying to get physical with PAYING customers, getting all up in their face. He was very condescending and rude, I was so shocked. It is a great course layout. It falls in the mid range difficulty, but therein lies a lot of the problems. The course is quite dead (possibly due to the pandemic?) and filled with a lot of beginners. Twice we have been caught behind a group that could not handle the dryness and kept leaving massive divots or sending the ball deep into the woods. It is not too difficult for an experience d golfer, but dirt is still no one's friend. Another issue would be the clearly inebriated groups. As I mentioned, this is not the easiest course and drunk people seem to hold up the flow almost everyday. You can avoid this in the morning, but obviously the green fees are more. There does not seem to be anyone monitoring the course which is the biggest problem. It would be helpful to have an employee tell groups they cannot spend 30 minutes per hole. The last time I played here we got stuck behind three slow groups and the course took nearly 5 hours... The staff here and friendly and the potential is definitely there, but there are some improvements that could be made. They need to monitor the course better and ensure flow of play, and maybe not allows drunks to drive golf carts and leave divots at every hole. It is a public course so I understand that comes with the territory but the afternoon is not a good time for anyone actually keeping score ***Covid-19 update*** They completely sanitize all carts prior to use. The tees are not allowed to be removed and they sanitize all ball stations. The bathrooms along the course were not cleaned, that I could see. Love this course! I travel all the way from the Westside to play the Twilight rates. You just can't beat the sunset and the deer all around here. Great rates -- although I wished I lived closer to take advantage of the membership. The driving range does look abandoned and could use a facelift but it gets the job done. The last time I went to the range the ball tractor apparently ran out of gas so all the golfers were in the field fishing for balls! Hilarious. Overall great course. read more

This review is on behalf of my mom. She had lunch here a few days ago and was disappointed with the food. The chicken she had was not the best quality and the brownie for dessert was very old. On a previous visit the food was better, however, this establishment obviously has some quality control issues to resolve. A highly enjoyable course that is difficult and fun. It had been awhile since I have played and the amount of balls I lost would certify that. The course is in the hills so there are great elevation changes and you will need to lay up for the next shot. Or you can do what I did and try to drive the whole thing, and win some then lose a lot of balls. It's a laid back place and no one seems stuffy. The pro shop had nothing in there today and is need of some upgrades for sure. read more

Good golf course! It's very tough if you're new. Lot of slopes and hills, no water, but bunkers. I feel like it's a little more expensive then it needs to be and can get pretty crowded and backed up. Overall, enjoyed it and the range. Would come back! Beautiful views. read more

Took out a friend for their first time playing a whole game (they have been to the driving range plenty) and the course was forgiving enough for her. I played here today. My goal is to play every course in LA County, this was number 27. Friendly and helpful staff. Course was in good shape, as were the greens. It's a canyon course, so long, narrow fairways and a good amount elevation change. I've only been playing for a year and a half and I don't play full size courses very often, I mostly stick with the executive courses and the par 3s. So I have a decent short game, but my long game isn't great. So this course was rather challenging for me. I enjoyed my experience here and will come back after I've gotten better at longer shots. I ate at the clubhouse. The burger was alright. read more

This is a very nice municipal course, as it is in solid condition. But for a shotmaking course like this, where yardage is so important, you gotta have accurate yardage markers or GPS. This course has neither. So you're guessing on shots that should be straightforward, which is just a shame. Also, the bunkers are inexcusable and dangerous. There should not be rocks all over the bunkers. It's unsafe and will damage clubs. Just a few small points of care and this could be one of the best public golf courses in the Los Angeles area. read more

I am extremely critical of customer service. Debell has made major changes to the course in the last week. New cement for cart paths, sand complexes re-done and new sand in all traps, fairways are outstanding and today the greens were unbelievable. Easy parking , seniors aged 55 pay $35.00 and the pace of play and the views are great. The one last course that actually still has a marshall. Debell has greatly improved the quality of the course experience. No GPS Screens but everyone uses watches and phones for yardages. read more

One of the best locations. Beautiful scenery and a pretty good staff in the starter shop. I hit a round here every time I am in town. BUT.....those tee boxes and greens need a lot of help and love. Not being an expert golfer I need any advantage I can get, but the chopped up greens made putting an exercise in obstacle avoidance. The tee boxes are so chopped up and mushy it makes it hard to place your tee. Please fix this course up and bring it up to it's wonderful potential. read more

The golf course is a city course so as city courses go, it's good. However the restaurant, now known as Hill Top is terrible and would not recommend it for anything. They decorate the plate with lettuce that has been under a heat lamp. Just don't put the lettuce or any decoration because by the time your hot food that has been under a heat lamp gets to your table, it's cold and the lettuce is wilted to a paste. Gross. They had 8 servers with nothing to do and the manager was running food. It was the most disorganized mess. I ordered the avocado toast. It was a piece of sour dough bread toasted on one side and a schmear of avocado, less than a bagel would have on it but you get two eggs. I think they used 1/4 avocado and two eggs. All for about $14. We asked for butter for the pancakes and it didn't come so I went to the wait staff and no one wanted to do much because the butter was in the freezer. Ha ha ha. I saw the kitchen and I am concerned about cleanliness too. Just an overall not so great experience. When will they find a good restaurant management company to manage this space? I just can't recommend them. It's been too many years of poor management to expect anything else. read more

The course "looks" nice from a distance but that's about it. Tee boxes were shot to shit and not level. The worst part though is the maintenance guys just drive up and down the course while you're playing. Teeing off, putting, doesn't matter. They're driving around their mowers and firing up leaf blowers literally right next to you while you're shooting. You can do better in LA for 45 bucks. read more

This review is based on the fact that the place is a public course in LA County. And based on that premise this is about as nice, clean, and well managed as its gonna get. On par with La Mirada w/ less foot traffic and more remote location. Front 9 is very challenging w/ many a blind spot, but back 9 opens up very nicely. I wouldn't recommend this course for pure beginners, and even for us weekend, scratch golfers I recommend you bring atleast 6 balls cause you'll be losing em along w/your dignity one blind turn after another. I'm pretty new to LA, but I've played a few public courses. Most have patches of dry grass, views obstructed by driving range nets, poles, or toxic waste facilities. However, this one was an amazing surprise! If you're used to playing private courses, then it's not going to be amazing. However, if you play the cheaper public courses, I think this one takes the cake for being one of the best. It's nestled in the mountains of Burbank. This means that there are beautiful views of the valley. The grass is very well-maintained...especially the greens! I have to say that this course is not really for beginners. There are many turns and blind shots to the green. The sand traps are extremely well (or terribly) placed. If you're intermediate, this is a super fun course to play. You will not be bored. They also have nice electric golf carts to run around on. Best of all, it's reasonably affordable...$31/$46 with cart. You can make tee time reservations online! Make sure you bring a jacket if you're going early in the morning, cuz it can get CHILLY! read more

This is a nice little course up against the hillside in Burbank. The fairways are mostly pretty narrow, so those with crazy drives will have a long day. The guys in the pro shop are cool and everyone is pretty lax for the most part. The parking lot can get full when crowded so you have to park on the street which can mean a hike up a hill. Just check in and you can take a cart to your car to load your clubs. The course is decently maintained and the views are great. The price is reasonable and I would highly recommend this place. I love and hate going to de bell. A great tee and approach shot can get away if you don't know how to control the greens. Definitely the biggest challenge to the narrow and sometimes long holes. It's a really fun course, and I'm content to shoot in the mid/high 90's here. My dream is to hit in the 80's here before I die. It will happen. Don't get frustrated at this challenging course. Man I really love this golf course - I used to live less than 10 minutes away and came here all the time. Their rates are reasonable (especially for twilight and super twilight) and it is a fun course to play. It is deceptively tough, as it is easy to check the overall yardage and think the course is really easy, but this is NOT a course for high handicap golfers as you will lose a lot of balls and be frustrated. Most holes are narrow and tree-lined, and even though some of the par 4s are under 300 yards, they are still two shot holes as they are completely undrivable (holes 2 and 3 are perfect examples of this). Some of holes (8,10,11) are very difficult and there is a great deal of variety in the holes. You will definitely use all your clubs here! The course itself is so tranquil and quiet. You are alone up in the mountains, away from the city and at the top of the course you can't hear a sound besides the animals (I see deer every single time I am here and there are many other animals around as well) sometimes. It is a special place to play and just enjoy nature. If you play in the afternoons, especially on weekdays, it is not too crowded and I have finished a round walking in under 2 and a half hours which is sweet. It has a nice, pastoral feel with great views from several holes. The range is nothing special but serviceable. It is short and mostly just dirt landing zones, but the mats are usually nice and the balls are reasonably priced so I hit tons and tons of balls there over the years. All the employees I met were friendly and helpful. They also do club re-grips for only 2 bucks each which is pretty sweet! read more

Fun course, greens in good shape. The one star is based on the encounter i had with the bar manager. I follow all the signs leading up to the snack bar window, order 2 beers, paid and left a 20% tip, and returned to the 10th tee box. As I'm approaching the tee box, the bar manager comes out of the clubhouse yelling and asking me if I paid for my beers. To which I answered yes, and asked why he was accusing me of stealing. He then explains that I was supposed to go downstairs to pay. I explain that I left my money with the person who gave me the beers as well as a tip. So now the person I gave the money to along with the bar manager are all standing by the tee box having this discussion in front of all my family and other groups of golfers on the putting green. Eventually, the bar manager realizes I in fact gave my money to the employee standing there and we go ahead and finish our round. Not being able to leave without saying something, I spoke to the GM who said he had heard about the encounter. Yet, if I would've left and said nothing they would've totally let it go. One would think someone should've been waiting for us on 18 to apologize for such an embarrassing encounter. Having been in the service industry before, I think I would've comped the group a round of drinks or a round of golf. Actually a prepared apology would've even been nice. This place needs some lessons on customer service. read more

2nd time I played and it made me remember why I did not go back for 10 years. It is bad enough that there are many blind shots cut around a mountain, INCLUDING A PAR 3, the greens are slicker than the Masters! And false fronts, pins put on the side of swales on the greens, balls that roll 30 and 40 feet backwards and to the side, 10+ foot breaks on putts. I mean I was looking for the windmill hole on 18, LOL. It is just a terribly awkward course that was not fun to play. There is even a false front on the practice green where many golfers, including myself, where chasing our balls down a hill into the street!!! C'MON MAN!!! Not pretty, not pleasant, poorly maintained and crazy greens. There are plenty of convenient nicer places to play than this lump of coal in the heart of Burbank. read more

Read my prior reviews for specifics on the course layout. I was seriously disappointed with the course maintenance today. The course is "beat up from the feet up" with torn up fairways. Patchiness, divots everywhere, yellow burned out grass are commonplace in fairways so I won't bother going into the usually more neglected "rough". The GREENS were tough to play and not in much better condition than the fairways so needless to say even an above average putter was "screwed at the drive-thru" today. If you enjoy dog legs, you will enjoy this course. "Big bombers" will not... The topper were 2 separate displays of "Darwinism at its not-so-finest" with 2 different coyotes digging deep into bunny rabbit holes. In both incidents, the coyote retrieved a tiny bunny and began to tear away at the flesh and digesting them in 3 minutes or less. Yes, this is "perfectly normal, perfectly healthy" but given the mediocre course conditions, this simply epitomized the kind of day we experienced. "Good times"... read more

There we some old Chinese men playing by themselves, but they left soon, probably because we were too loud. But what can you do with that, we had fun. Anyway, recommend it to all! read more

If you are interested in going to a golf course where the unemployed/retired assholes meet for their gossip, and a rude management, De Bell should be your fist choice! Unfortunately, a such beautiful and large golf course is filled with rude and irritated people that mind everything except their own business. My friends and I had a great time, except the few incidences in which we received rude remarks, comments, and attitude from obnoxious and impatient people. We were fairly new at the game, however we, just as they, were waiting for the people in front of us. However, due to us being younger and inexperienced, we were treated rudely. Although there was not too much to be happy about about the overall harsh ambiance of the course, the grille was great with great food and service. If I could give a half star, I would. read more

Management does not control unruly and aggressive guests. I live in the neighborhood and was walking my dog along the outside of the course this morning (as I often do) when I encountered a loose dog that came at mine. I have a big dog and he responded in kind. They were separated by a fence that's older and has gaps in places and I didn't want either of the dogs to get hurt in a fight. I kept calling out: would somebody leash this dog? Nobody responded as I struggled to pull my dog away. About 40 feet away is a group of four men playing golf and as we got nearer to them and I keep asking for the dog to be leashed, one of them said: "he's behind the fence you stupid fucking broad." My partner told him not to talk to me that way and this lunatic raced toward the fence and climbed halfway up it holding up a large wooden club in a striking position, threatening to assault us for asking him to leash his dog. One of the other guys backed the lunatic. The others stayed quiet. I walked away and once the guy got off the fence, my partner followed. We got to the clubhouse about 10m later and my partner went inside to complain. The girl behind the counter shrugged and handed him the manager's card and told him to write an email, allowing the golfers to play on and not giving him their names so they could be held accountable for their inappropriate behavior at any point. He asked her to call whomever was in charge today or get the Marshall over there to, at the very least, instruct the golfers that they can't have an unleashed dog or, in a just world, take their names and suspend their privileges for a period of time for threatening the neighbors. Zero response. So if you want to golf at a place that upholds general decency, I'd go elsewhere. Shame on you DeBell. As a property owner and resident of this city, I expected better. read more

We had a tee time (booked a week ago on the De Bell site) for 12/26 for myself, wife and son who was home for the holidays, but were disappointed once again by staff who had let the course get overbooked by third party services. I knew there was trouble when the guy ahead of me checked in and was told his tee time would be delayed 40 minutes. One of the staff added to the misery by saying "you won't finish today", almost half hoping he wouldn't book. I complained that this was the second time in the last month where an overbooking situation has occurred and the response from the same guy was "well, I guess you won't be breaking that streak today". Really? We called Westlake Golf Course and got on in 45 minutes. It is such a frustration that a nice course (and one that is less than a mile from home) has to be saddled with a pro shop that can't get the job done. We'll try again when it's not so busy for them to deal with. read more

Sometimes being a member of a private club ruins it for public courses. Look I'm not saying this course isn't playable because it is. But it's not maintained like resorts and private courses. I guess that's how public courses are and if I have to play them when I travel I need to get used to that. The greens are in good shape the layout was interesting but short and I don't see myself returning. If you're looking for value for your money this would be a place to choose. read more
