My wife and I arrived a little early as it was our first time at our new dentist. We were greeted with nothing but smiles and they were expecting us. We had signed in online before arriving so I was ushered right in. Nate got me started quickly and efficiently. He had actually read my profile from check in so we moved from greeting to xrays to cleaning quickly and expertly. He had obviously done this a million times. Super friendly and there were no surprises in any of the entire interaction with him. I'm 61 and have been to dentists and orthodontists more times than I can count and this was probably the Best experience. When Nate was done with all of the documentation and cleaning, the doctor came in and gave me the once over. He didn't try to sell me anything I didn't need and told me what he and I should keep an eye on. Quality of the Care and overall experience couldn't have been better!! My appointment with DeBary Dentistry was very pleasant. The entire staff was professional and extremely helpful.

After avoiding the dentist for quite some time, I finally decided to visit DeBary Dentistry and met with Dr. Calhoun. I was nervous but hopeful, and I trusted that I was in good hands--especially since I had never needed a filling before. During the appointment, Dr. Calhoun numbed me and left the room for a few minutes, which felt routine. When he returned and asked if I was numb, I told him yes--but the moment he began drilling, my body jerked from the pain. Clearly, I wasn't fully numb. He stopped, administered more anesthetic, and gave it a few more minutes. Then something started to feel very wrong. I began struggling to swallow and realized my tongue was swelling. I assumed I was having a panic attack and tried to push through, but I couldn't open my mouth wider when asked. Dr. Calhoun kept trying to move my tongue out of the way, despite my growing discomfort. Looking back, as a dentist with years of experience, he should have recognized that something was off. When the procedure ended, I was told to check out--but my speech was slurred, and I was visibly struggling. Once I got to my car, I saw hives forming down my throat and chest. Alarmed, I rushed to an urgent care clinic just around the corner. The doctor there told me if I had waited five more minutes, I might not have made it. I was having a severe allergic reaction, likely to preservatives in the lidocaine. Hours later, I called the dental office to explain what had happened. I expected concern or at least compassion. Instead, Dr. Calhoun was cold and dismissive, suggesting it was my responsibility to know I could be allergic. I nearly died in that chair--and I was treated like an inconvenience. To make matters worse, I received multiple calls in the following weeks asking to reschedule. After what I went through, it felt less like standard follow-up and more like harassment. There was no acknowledgment of what happened or regard for how traumatic the experience was. I share this not out of spite, but out of a sincere hope that no one else goes through what I did. Everyone deserves to feel safe and cared for in a medical setting--especially one as personal and vulnerable as dental work. Sadly, I can't say that was my experience here. read more

I had a crown fall victim to a piece of really sticky toffee last night and called DeBary Dental the very next morning and the kind folks were able to work me in that morning. Xrays taken and the tooth checked for any decay or other problems. Temporary crown in place until the permanent can be inserted next week. Everyone friendly and accommodating. 6/22/23 I couldn't take the pain that started yesterday in a tooth. I showed up at DeBary Dentistry unannounced at 7:45am. They took me back RIGHT AWAY! Doc Wells worked some magic and wrote a script for an antibiotic. Hoping that does the trick. But everyone I came in contact with in their office was GREAT! (Drat, didn't hit "Post", so posting this now Well, the above never posted. Anyway, today 10/24/23 went in for a cleaning. Waited a whole 4 minutes and was called back. Cate was fantastic and educational. In & out in no time. I highly recommend DeBary Dentistry! 12/12/23 Had to have an old filling (put in by Moses) replaced. Doc Wells made it absolutely painless! He and his team are fantastic! 03/04/25 previous dates didn't post for some reason.Today just a cleaning, but from the moment I walked in until I left, everything was as smooth as silk. Their customer service is top notch... front desk was kind, patient and very good communicators. I was here last year and dr.wells was so nice to me, I lost 2 of my bridges and ended up seeing dr.calhoun. I hadn't been taking care of my teeth for a year because I was in a huge depression because my mother died. Well dr.calhoun was judgemental and rude and informed Me that my best option was dentures. I tried to discuss implants but he told me I have bad hygiene and he didn't want to take that on He was rude,judgemental and arrogant and had no knowledge of anxiety or depression being a serious disease that I had. I requested to be notified if a cancellation was made in hopes to have an "emergency" problem with my teeth corrected. I was foolishly glad to get seen sooner, only to discover the he dentist planned on a full mouth exam with the aim of presenting me with a hefty proposed plan of other work. He refused to address he "emergency" problem unless I agreed to the full mouth exam despite the fact that he priorly had. This was nothing short of hoodwinking, bait and switch, take your pick, bottom line, it was dishonest on their part. It seems to me that money is their driving goal, Not the needs of the patient. The front desk staff was very accommodating and made it possible for me to get seen despite the short notice. I had been going toe the same Dentist for 20 years. When he retired, his practice was sold to Debary Dentistry. I LOVED that Dentist and absolutely LOVED my Dental Hygienists. I was so happy when she stayed on and I could continue with at least her. Well, extremely sadly I won't he returning. I simply went in for my cleaning as I had for the last 20+ years and they required X-Rays to get the cleaning. I simply have had zero problems and didn't want to do the X-Rays. I was told it was required and that I had to do it or no cleaning (way to care for a patient). So if I don't want X-Rays, I can't get a cleaning even though we are paying for it out of pocket??? I guess it's all or nothing now. Well, I guess that's the end and probably part in what is wrong with the healthcare system in the first place. We don't specifically have dental insurance and have paid out of pocket for the better part of our lives. Our children go there, my wife had been with the previous Dentist for 30+ years as well as our favorite Hygienist. We recently spend a relatively large amount of money there for my wife and had another procedure schedule for September for her. Well, it's a shame we'll be canceling that and taking our business elsewhere simply because they wouldn't allow me NOT to get X-Rays. read more
