This is a family-owned bakery and coffee shop that specializes in a wide variety of baked goods, all made in-house. The festive and inviting holiday decor made me want to curl up on the couch with a good book and some tasty treats. Speaking of which... While there were several items that caught my eye, I narrowed my choices down to the following: Oreo Peppermint Crunch Cookie: Perfectly Crisp on the outside, soft and chewy on the inside, ample amounts of Oreo and Peppermint Bark throughout. I should have gotten 2.....or more. Im a sucker for nostalgia, so I knew I had to get my hands on the Strawberry Shortcake Cheesecake. PRO TIP: With any crumb coated cheesecake, let it sit and thaw out a bit to soften, or it will be tough to cut into. This dessert flooded my brain with childhood memories, chasing after the ice cream truck to get that classic Strawberry Shortcake Ice Cream Bar. It was toothsome, but not too heavy, and absolutely delicious. White Hot Chocolate: Velvety smooth with just the right touch of sweetness and so appreciated on this chilly winters day. Sweet Girl's Bakery is a MUST TRY for anyone in the market for some scratch-made fresh baked goods. They also do custom cakes and cookie decorating classes, so stop by and support this AWESOME local business! Till next time, my fellow Yeeps, thanks for reading, and as always....SYOY!

When we ordered, he mumbled back and forth and seemingly didn't understand our relatively simple order, which was a bagel, egg and cheese sandwich and a PBJ on a bagel. My wife also got an iced coffee drink. The man at the counter had an attitude with us the whole time, especially after my wife asked for an iced coffee rather than the hot coffee he served. He was huffing and slamming doors and dishes, and it was really unnerving. The most egregious part was the cost. For the above three items, this man actually charged $31. I didn't even bother to argue with him and just paid the tab. There's no way we weren't overcharged, but I'm equally certain he would have resisted any attempt to examine the bill or gotten angrier... over nothing. We didn't say anything or do anything to this man other than place the order and return the hot coffee, which was his mistake. The whole atmosphere was uncomfortable, and I will strongly recommend no one visit Old Cup cafe. You will be ripped off, or retaliated against, and you will not enjoy the experience. Places like this need to just go out of business, and I can't imagine they're long for this world with so many better and more affordable spots in Avondale. Head to Southern Grounds and avoid Old Cup at all costs.

We had never been to a Shipley Do-Nuts but our son had heard of it and wanted to stop in. We mentioned it was our first time when we walked in since we knew it would take us forever to choose our order. We were warmly greeted by Smiley and other staff (I regret not getting everyone's names) and were given a "tour" of the offerings. We ended up asking lots of questions and ordering several things to try for our trip home. You could tell by their enthusiasm and amazing customer service that the people working here enjoy what they do. The kindness and generosity we experienced today cannot be understated. We had lots of laughs and such a great time during what was supposed to be a quick random stop. We may live a couple states away, but we pass by Jax Beach a couple times a year and we will make it a point to ALWAYS be customers when we are in town. Thank you!

From the moment we laid eyes on the pastry case, our jaws were on the floor. Everything we had was amazing -- the breakfast sandwich on sourdough, ham & cheese croissant, matcha cheesecake blueberry croissant tart, and the brie country ham & hot honey galette. JUST WOW! We also got some lattes to fuel our morning and I opted for their special brown butter sesame latte -- yum! The bakery itself is very cute with some market and pantry items available to shop as well. The staff was very patient as we asked a million questions about all the pastries before making our selections. Highly recommend this spot if you're in the downtown Jax area!

I've never tried a kolache before, but I can say the hot dog croissant I had at Cruffin & Tea a while back was much better, including the quality of the hot dog. Apple fritters are a favorite, but theirs was enormous, so we couldn't try many things here if we got that, so we saved it for a future visit. Fast forward to March 2021 and I needed to purchase a birthday cake for a friend. Darla's is closed Sunday and Monday. And of course I thought to order the cake Monday for a Wednesday celebration. But not to worry! If you find yourself in the same situation send her a message on her website, frostedbydarla.com. I submitted an online contact message and Darla called within two hours of hitting send;) Darla and I talked roughly 10-15 minutes. She gave me some great suggestions and I went with a 10 inch chocolate cake with buttercream chocolate frosting. I thought I needed a 10 inch because I was serving 13 people. Her cakes are four inches thick so I could have went with an eight inch lol. I let her know I needed to pick up the cake Wednesday at 5:45 PM as I needed to arrive at the venue at 6:30. I was able to pay for the cake over the phone and received a text message receipt. When I picked up the cake Wednesday it was sitting on a little table in front of the counter. I liked the contactless pick up process! Now to the cake. It was a huge hit with the birthday boy and everyone that tasted it! All my friends wanted to know where I purchased this marvellous cake. The cake was oh so moist and the icing was epic. Sweet but not over the top rich. Perfection;))))) Not to mention the icing detail made it look like a piece of art. I love that Frosted by Darla is so close to home. And order and pick up is easy peasy. Thank you for making my friends celebration a tasty success!
