She continued to tell me how she sent information to my phone but I never received it. and she continued to repeat her self with the worst attitude. I admit, I have not been to any dentist in some time. I came here on an emergency visit Tuesday…read moreafternoon based on Yelp reviews alone. Yelp was right, this place is stellar. I have been terrified of the dentist for some time. Kind of like the car dealership, you have a go-between who talks billing and insurance with you away from the nurse and dentist. It's discrete and comfortable without pressure. My nurse (dental hygienist) was Susan? Or Sandy? God she was an angel. She was so kind to me breaking down and upset and in pain. She made me feel so comfortable talking about stuff and offering anything I might need. My dentist was Dr Taylor who was incredibly knowledgeable and proficient. I got out what needed to come out and I even scheduled an appointment for regular maintenance later this month. I was made comfortable to be there, whether I needed nitrous or a valium, either are available. And they make sure you are physically comfortable with numbing. Mentally comfortable is hard, but true kindness shines through in the folks who work there. I got a kids "reward" (shark plushie) to hold while I had my procedure. When I left I got a "goodie bag" with full instructions on what I had done, extra gauze, and an emergency card. It's a little hinky getting in with the road construction on witchduck road. But soon as your turn on Grayson, by the church, it's there. There's an employee entrance on the witchduck side and another saying Ste 200 on the side, even though the dentist is Ste 100, this is the door you go in.

She took the time to answer every question thoughtfully and ensured that I felt informed, comfortable, and at ease throughout my visit. Her professionalism, communication skills, and extensive knowledge of the practice were truly impressive. Chanel and the front-office team provided impeccable service from beginning to end. Apparently I lucked out because after that they were booked until April, but I was impressed. The office is pretty unassuming from the outside, but the waiting room inside is great. Very calming, nice decor and lots of art. All of the women that I talked to at the front desk (and pretty much every other person i encountered there) were very friendly. Everyone seemed happy to be there, like they actually liked their jobs. And Dr. Horwitz was the BEST! He has the greatest bed side manner I've ever experienced. The whole time he was very pleasant and joked around. He made me feel at ease, which is nice when you're about to go under the drill. He was also very quick - 5 cavities in around an hour, when my old dentist would have done 4 cavities in 2 hours. I'll definitely be coming back if I can. I went in for a routine cleaning and told them that I was experiencing some discomfort and one of the crowns that I had done a year prior to, and Dr Mollie listen to what I had to say and could've easily told me I needed an expensive root canal or other dental procedure to repair, however, she diagnosed my issues and it was simply something small that she was able to take care of right then right there. I have been very blessed to have received care from many of the folks at this practice, Christi is the hygienist that I see every 3 months and she has been absolutely phenomenal. In partnership with Dr. Downs she has introduced some very advanced and effective treatments into my care plan. I have been very impressed by her dedication to finding ways to help me. Everyone at this practice is extremely kind, my comfort is always a top priority and even procedures that I feel like could be painful are not. Dr. Downs and her team have always made sure that I am totally comfortable. I would say that I laugh more and enjoy my time at the practice more than most people would associate with a visit to the dentist's office. The billing staff are also very knowledgeable, I feel like they take extra steps to ensure as much of the costs are covered by my insurance as possible and there are never any surprises. I highly recommend Downs Dental Care, going there is both an enjoyable and effective experience!

The front desk technician greeted me with a genuine smile and assisted me almost immediately. Every staff member introduced themselves with kindness and professionalism, which made me feel well cared for throughout my visit. The X‑ray technician was efficient and pleasant, making the process quick and comfortable. Dr. Tucker conducted a thorough examination and was transparent about my treatment plan and associated costs. Her expertise is a true testament to the team's dedication to patient education and high‑quality care. I genuinely cannot wait to return for another 5‑star experience. I have several dental issues that need attention, including a crown adjustment. During the discussion, I was informed that the dentist would charge me the full amount for adjusting my crown, as if it were a new one. I was told the dentist would need to remove my crown. You do not need to remove a crown to do an adjustment. A new crown is 1,500- 2,000 dollars so that amount for an adjustment is outrageous!!! They highly recommended that I visit the dentist who had placed the crown on me. This was the first time I had ever heard such a recommendation. I believe that whoever scheduled the appointments should have informed me or the office well in advance, at least more than two days before the appointment.

Love this place. A co-worker whose wife works here recommended it when I was complaining about my…read morecurrent dentist office being terrible with mean ladies who seemed to take pleasure in hurting me... I came here and it was like going to my small home-town dentist office where they knew my name, my parents, and remembered a lot of details about my life at every visit. It is located near the beachfront right off the interstate and near the Virginia Beach Convention Center. It has ample parking in the attached lot though it is a smaller parking lot with about 8 or so spaces - it never seems to be so over crowded that I can't find any parking... it has been close once or twice though... The inside is very very clean with new equipment and cute beach-y furniture and wall decor - surf boards and seashells and such. They sell Sonicare toothbrushes and products and do oral surgeries and tooth whitening here. I have never needed more than a very minor filling that did not require numbing and the doctor (Dr. Heffelfinger mentioned below) has an excellent bedside manner who decided to not numb me and we went very slowly to see if I even needed it for such a superficial filling. It turned out I didn't so he spared me the stress and pain of that for which I greatly appreciated it. Means I didn't drool on myself all night needlessly. Plus he personally called the next day to check on me - something I believe they do with all patients who had a procedure done and which is a real personal touch that you don't find most places anymore. I've had a few hygienists since coming here over the last two years but my favorite was only there temporarily and left - my current - Kimberly - is very nice and works with me because I am a bleeder with sensitive gums and A LOT of plaque build-up every time no matter how much I floss or how expensive my toothbrush is.... she seems to go out of her way not to hurt me and to try to minimize the dreadful experience. Which is nice. She also asks about my life and makes an effort to remember the details. My dentist - Dr. Heffelfinger is a very nice younger doctor with a friendly and funny personality - who happens to have gone to JMU - my alma mater - which makes us instant best friends and means he is automatically a great American to me.... plus he's pretty damn cute so it could be much worse. I still don't really enjoy coming to the dentist - but it's much better than ANY previous experiences I've had and especially in the Virginia Beach area. if you are looking for the small-town dentist feel where they remember your name and some family details every time you go in and don't farm you in and out like cattle, come here. You won't regret it.
