When my son tried to use the phone, it was locked and could only be unlocked by a totally unknown owner so the phone was worthless. When my son tried to return the phone, the owner refused to take the phone back or to return my son's $100. We tried to work with the owner to explain the problem, but that only resulted in us being asked to leave the store. We refuse to be intimidated by this scam and filed a claim in Small Claims Court against this shop and the con-woman owner. Let me set the scene: You walk into Deal Zone, expecting something akin to Gamestop. You're excited because you've found gems at a store similar and you're always up for something new. You gently place your hand on the bar and open the door. At first, it doesn't seem so bad until your eyes adjust. You're met with this messy, unorganized heap of games and movies as far as the eye can see. It's dingy and dark, almost as if it's evening time. All of the aisles are small and there's things scattered below the shelves on the floor, probably things she's bought and couldn't find room for. You take a deep breathe and you smell dust, and recoil a little bit. You don't want to look like a weirdo, so you venture farther into this dungeon-like facility and you start looking, everything feels like it has years of grime and dirt on it. Everything you like is overpriced and you can feel the eyes of the woman behind the counter boring into your very soul. But soon you found something neat! A guide to the game series you love dearly and have been collecting for years! Yes! But the cover is torn off, and a little voice in the back of your head tells you that GameStop rips the covers off of these when they throw them away - so you know she has to be dumpster diving for some of this stuff. Gross, but you feel the excitement bubble up into your chest. You turn the item around to see the price, and it has none. You aren't deterred though, as you grab it and head to the counter. You greet the owner, who gives off this weird vibe, but you smile and say, "Hi! How much is this?" She hesitates, but takes it anyway. She's silent for a few moments, running her fingers across the back and turning it to look at every square inch of it. The silence is poignant, you wonder if she's okay. Until she looks up and says, "How about ten dollars?" You can feel your face fall as you realise, it isn't worth ten dollars. You offer her five, because it's obviously very old as the game had came out ten years earlier, and the cover isn't even on it. "No, ten." She says. You feel defeated as you ask for it back, so you can put it back where you found it. You aren't a monster, after all. The walk back is disappointing as you gross really old bloatware for the wii she's priced triple than what their worth, and foreign workout and children's movies. You place it back where it belongs. I bought a "gift card" on eBay sold by Deal Zone of Lafayette (same address, business name, etc.) and was sent a woman's credit card with her social security number!!! When I asked what was going on, I was given a picture of her with her information (name, address, height, weight, eye color, SS# again) so that I could use it. I tried to be cool and return it for a refund (paid $313.98) without making a fuss, but after I sent the credit card back, the business cut off all communication and kept my money. I had to go through eBay and eventually my bank to dispute the transaction. I'm still waiting to officially get my money back from the bank, but I have confidence that my bank will follow through. I brought in a brand new Super NES edition ds. Valued $250 new. I asked for $200 and she hit me back with $150. I ended up settling on the $150 to have straight cash, but wish I could've gotten a little more for such a collectible item. I loved the assortment and variety, but it is a little bit on the pricey side. There's a little bit of everything in the shop, and chances are, if you can think of it, there's a possibility it's there. Definitely one of my favorite video game shops based on variety. Lots of older and newer consoles, headsets (new and used), controllers (new and used), cameras, iPhone/android phones (lots of older models), and tons of video games, cd's, records, posters, and accessories for video games from throughout the years. The shop is a bit cluttered, but that adds to the charm. I've found over the years that the cluttered shops tend to have more of what you need, more of what you don't need, and things you didn't know existed. I thoroughly enjoyed looking through everything in the shop, as I am a bit of a "collector" of everything. Now on to the part of the Owner.. Reading the reviews ahead of time, I was scared to be met by a middle aged women with the personality of the Wicked Stepmother from Cinderella. When my girlfriend and I walked in, we were met with a "hello! How are you?" by the shop owner, who, after asking, is named Fran. Just like all pawn shops, she buys low and sells high, and I gotta respect the hustle. We had a chat for a while, and I ended up purchasing a Switch Lite from her. Overall, I really enjoyed my experience with the shop and it's owner. Fran is truly a nice lady if you're friendly and respectable towards her. I plan on making a trip to this shop every time I'm in the Lafayette area! My review breakdown: I gave her and her shop 4 stars. I enjoyed the shop and the "clutter" (treasure, in my opinion) and I enjoyed getting past the negative reviews on Fran and her shop. Will be back! read more

I have visited this place a few times. It's basically the equivalent to the CD and electronic buyers/resellers that were super common in the 1990's. You can find used CDs, DVDs, electronics, instruments, amps, video games, tvs, and lots and lots of junk. Yep, I said it... junk. The aisles of the store are cluttered with random garage sale crud. Literally! You can't even walk around in the shoppe because there are piles of assorted junk on the floor everywhere. Old beat-up looking car speakers, guitar hero accessories, early 2000's era phones, and pretty much anything else a meth addict may have stolen from his neighbor's garage can be found at Deal Zone. The owner is a shrewd, not-so-friendly lady with a thick eastern block accent. I wanted to like her considering she's a local business owner and everything, but she lied to my face multiple times. Of course, that's how pawn-brokers function. They have to deflate the price of items they buy and inflate the price of items they sell... that's business. Still, I didn't like the lady lying to my face, and I got a super-scuzzy vibe from her. Granted all of the negative aspects of the shoppe could easily be overlooked if it had great prices. Sadly, it doesn't. Walmart is cheaper. But hey, if you're looking for a scratched-up Richard Marx CD from 1994, or a torn subwoofer that smells like dustbunnies, this place may have what you crave! read more

Deal Zone is a used CD, vinyl, DVD, video game, and audio equipment resale store. I have never tried to sell something here, but I've bought from here. The store is a bit disorganized and disheveled. CDs and DVDs are in somewhat alphabetical order. Usually, something just jumps out at you that you weren't really looking for. The quality of the items are good and the store will exchange a damaged item but not so much a refund. Prices are fair and equal to what other used stores charge. The vinyl is over-priced but that's kind of standard these days, unfortunately. There seems to be a good selection of games and that is what I see most people shopping for. The DVD section is adequate and the CD section is smaller. There is some audio and music equipment including guitars for sale, but I've not really looked at them. Really, it's like going to a large flea market booth, in a sense. What I don't like is the practice of taping cases shut which degrades the quality of the case for collectors like me. Not near the level of JL across the river (no one is) but might be worth a look. read more

Ps3 controller (analog stick broke and didn't charge, we returned and was offered name brand ps3 controller which she then charged us extra for) PSP (disc compartment wouldn't latch, we returned and exchanged but the new one had scratched off serial number and also was broke) Several known stolen items that Deal Zone bought and are reselling. SCAM ARTIST! If you want a game that doesn't work, an overpriced console, or a stolen iPhone this is the place for you. This lady has tried to screw me over every single time I've went in there. This is the last time. The first time I went she tried to steal money from me by saying the "Remaining Balance" on my gift card was the amount that I still owed her. I fell for it at first but then realized that she tried to scam me after I called the gift card number. She acted like it was an accident while she pulled the $20 bill i gave her out from UNDER the drawer. The next time I went in she sold me an Xbox 360 Kinect that ended up not working. I went back and demanded her to give me one that works. She gave me one that worked and then put the broken one back on the shelf right in front of me to sell to the next sorry sucker who goes here. My husband had a awful experience a years back. I shouldve listened!! The owner was very rude when I wanted to return the merchandise which was Sprint phone that was actually a damn boost mobile phone. I called Sprint and the told me the meid number wasnt a Sprint phone!! The phone kept rebooting with the Android bot later that night after I purchased it. The phone was $86. She stated she would give me a $50 refund because the phone wasn't coming on correctly. I also asked do she check the phones out with a tech first. She said yes, but I HIGHLY DOUBT SHE CHECKS ANY OF HER MERCHANDISE!! The place looks like a pawn shop, the prices are horrible, and the owners attitude is really crappy!! If I could give this rip off zero stars I would. We bought a game system and some games there and when we asked how much the games were she said $7-$10. So we picked out some games and were getting ready to check out. I have my debit card out on the checkout counter and she grabs it and swipes it and then I have to ask "um, you didn't tell me a total?" She responds with "over $200". I was in disbelief because the console was $60 and the 3 games were supposedly $7-$10. We get out to the car and look at the receipt and see that she charged us $40-$50 for each game!!!! We go back in to return it and she won't return them. We are now filing a claim with our bank because who says "over $200" for the total and not give an exact total of $249.75?! And who takes your card and swipes it without telling you a total. We have tried to cooperate with this lady even trying to make a deal to let us return the games at least. Not even the console. Nope. We asked to speak to the manager and she says "he's unavailable". Yeah right. You are the owner of the store with your Mercedes and CA license plate sitting out front. This place is great. I used to come here with my girlfriend and comb through their movie selection, reminiscing and thinking of which ones we wanted to watch that night. This is similar to what I did at block buster all those years ago, except you own the movie afterward. Check the disks, I've never had a problem, but I've seen some beat up discs. She also offers a very competitive price on movies and games, whether you are buying or selling. It really is interesting to peek through all she has to offer. read more

If you want games or videos it is an okay place to shop. DO NOT....I MEAN DO NOT purchase a game system there, unless your desire is to get defective merchandise, with essentially no warranty. This is just my opinion, but it is supported by two defective units in just over one week and then told too bad, we got your $130.. The sales person indicated it came with a warranty but did not volunteer any terms. The first unit was a PS3 super slim ith 250gb. It smelled hot from the moment we got it home. We called and was told to give it a few days. On day five it started to just shut down by itself. It also had some other issues we could have lived with, such as the HDMI port was so loose the cable would barely stay in. The controller would not hold a charge so we had to keep it plugged into the console all the time. It was a junk after market controller, not an original Sony. We took the unit back and wanted an exchange. Even though there were other super slim units, which is what I wanted. We then asked about the alleged warranty and was told it was really only for a day or two. This means that after two days, they are entitled to your full $130 and you have a unit that worked for a couple of hours of use. And they must think this is FAIR. I was FORCED to take an older unit that was not with the one's on the sales floor it was in back of the counter. I suspect they already knew it was a defective unit. Again, this is my opinion, but it was defective. In addition, I was told it also had a 250gb HDD, which was a lie, as it had only 160gb. I was told UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES could we bring this unit back, even if it did not work. They apparently have no concern about openly selling defective merchandise and as I said this unit was very much, junk and would not read discs. You have to load and reload it ten times to get it to recognize anything. I took it to a repair shop and they advised the laser was shot and it would cost more than it was worth to repair. So, I lost $130 to these people, who in my opinion are rip off artists. I am filing a better business bureau complaint and filing suit in small claims court. When I obtain a judgement I will use that to request a cease and desist order to prevent them from, in my opinion, stealing money from another customer. read more

Where to begin? Lets start from the beginning. I had visited this place multiple times...scrounging through their discounted CD section, and could usually find what I wanted for a fairly cheap price..although the "Deal Zone" seems to value their discounted LP'S at a higher price than any other local record store/discount shop. I've yet to begin why I am even writing this review however! So let us begin! About 2 weeks ago I decided that I wanted to get my N64 up and running again with the sole purpose of being able to play "Zelda: Ocarina Of Time" I was missing a few parts to the console, so I decided that a discount shop would most likely have everything I could possibly need. I came in and bought a power supply adapter($19.99), a controller memory pack($9.99), and an actual controller(14.99), which was a knockoff brand. "Hindsight is 20/20 though right!"? For about the first week the controller seemed to work fine, but around day 7 or 8 it started to show the fact that it was not a registered Nintendo controller (cheap as balls), which made playing the game that I had so many fond memories of very hard to play, because every time I would get to a pivotal moment..the controller seemed to find a way to move on its own and totally wreck any momentum I was gathering in the game. Often times I would not even be holding it and it would decide that it wanted to move the character in circles. So here I am a somewhat loyal patron thinking "I should be able to take this back into the store and even if I cant get a refund maybe I can get a store credit!"? WELL FOLKS! NO STORE CREDIT! NO RETURNS! NO REFUNDS! NO NOTHING! I walked into the store with the original packaging which held the controller, the controller itself, and both store receipts, and debit card receipts. I calmly explained to the woman/owner the situation. Not only did she blatantly lie saying "I've never had a problem, or a return with that item", but then she accused me of either dropping the controller, or spilling liquid on it..essentially shifting the blame towards me, and not the fact that she carries cheap knock off brands that break within a week! I've had bad customer experiences in my life, but none so bad to make me join Yelp in order to write a review of a place that will continue to lose out on my business. P.S. GO TO CD LAND!!! Not only was I given store credit for an item that I purchased (I didn't end up needing), but I was able to attain an original N64 Controller that works great and was the same price as the cheap knock off brand that "Deal Zone" offered me and decided to treat me like a swindler when it came to being an honest business. I bought a pc game from here and it was supposed to come with 2 discs and it came with one disc and i cant even install the game without the second disc. I brought it back to her and told her that its supposed to come with 2 discs and that she might have the second disc where all the other games were and she was completely rude to me and told me" well, go get it.
