This is a wonderful park it seems on the smaller side which is not a bad thing. It has space for people to play baseball and work out. There is a playground for the kiddos. If you live at the edge of the theater district and have a dog -- this park is your best option. Safe and clean. I bring my buddy Yoda here often and when we have time to hang out at the dog park for small dogs, he is on cloud 9 entertaining everyone with his silliness. The owners who bring their dogs there seem to be responsible people and I've never witnessed a dog fight in the years we've been coming here, which is a testament to that. A lot of high schools use the field for sports activities and the children's park is small but neat with rocks to climb. read more

Big park on the West side near the highway, with a big baseball artificial turf field, basketball courts half tennis or handball courts, a playground and dog run. Lots of people, a bathroom, and I saw a park employee cleaning, but still a fair number of folks without masks running about and damage from the storm being cleaned up. Free masks being given out too by another park employee. read more

I live directly across the street and go here at least once a day to walk my dog. This is one of the best parks in the city and no tourists (except for the occasional one who was waiting in line for Daily Show and decided to come over to pet your dog). All of the car service guys come here to use the bathroom (which I have never been in but assume are well maintained). Fab children's playground, basketball and handball courts. The best thing about this place is that it is surrounded by enormous trees and has beautiful gardens around the perimeter...I'm talking lilac and rose bushes, peach trees and in the spring...thousands of daffodils. So if you are playing ball in the summer...you have the breeze from the river and shade from the trees. The highlight of this park is the ballfields that are always in use. The lights go out at midnight and the fact that there are always people here makes it super safe! Amazing and most importantly well behaved dog park. There are two sections one for small dogs but almost no one uses it...my dog is 10 lbs and hates other dogs but the majority of dogs that come here are well socialized and any problems that come up are quickly resolved. Small children's play pools for the dogs too and under the aforementioned trees...it is perfect place to take your dog in the summer...never in direct sunlight!! As anywhere in NYC...there are rats but they usually keep to themselves. read more

You are probably aware that many girls like football just as much as the boys do. But did you know that some girls PLAY it like the boys do? I recently joined a coed flag football league that plays in this park, and was I ever impressed! The park itself is easy enough to find, with plenty of metered parking nearby. There isn't much in the way of seating, so if you're looking to feed pigeons (the city discourages this, by the way) or to leave your toddler children to their own devices while you relax on a bench and read a book, then this isn't the park that you are looking for. That said, there were a bunch of sports activities going on at the same time in perfect harmony with one another. We were there for about two hours, and saw some middle school-ers fielding grounders on the baseball field; two kids practicing soccer; father and son playing catch in the distance along the fence; and two separate games of flag football going on width-wise along the football field. Even on a cold day like today, you can't keep a good park down. read more

I like a lot of things about this park. There's a dog run, statue and a baseball/softball field. I also like that it's located by the Mercedes Benz house, one of my favorite buildings in the City. Come to this park if only to admire the architecture of the Mercedes House. Gorgeous. The seating is kind of limited, though. It's not a park to have a picnic at, and that is OK! The small dogs section is smaller, and they have a kiddie pool. We took our puppy to the big dogs section, where there were other like-sized dogs. That area was pretty huge compared to other dog parks I've been to. There's tons of trees too for extra shade, but also a lot of mosquitoes biting us, sigh. Huge kiddie pool for the dogs to swim around in, and plenty of benches for seating. We also saw a terrier just hunting for rats outside the fence, being super focused and everything! dont venture to the extreme west side much but glad i did as dewitt clinton park on 54th street and 12th ave this amost 6 acres of park has plenty for all from plenty of benches to relax as the doggies run around the dog park , keep a eye on the kiddies playing at the nicely maintained playground , shoot some hoops at the b courts , play football, soccer , baseball at the large playing fields that has working lights for night time. i came to watch a soccer game with a few friends and i also used a bench to take a cat nap but i was discreet with sunglasses on and in an upright posture(not the homeless position like laying across the bench ).park can get crowded when weather is nice and with plenty of uses for humans and dogs i can understand. overall nice park overlooking the hudson river. read more

*This review is for the softball fields. This place is ok for softball. There are four fields. Presumably, your outfielders will have to be alert to the other ongoing games and fly balls. Also, you will probably have to contend with random soccer matches on the empty fields during your game (they usually do interfere with the outfielders). Oh, and you might get bit by black flies as we did a couple times...probably b/c the horse stables are nearby. Dear NYC Parks Dept: The turf on the fields is in dire need of being replaced. There's a trench from 1st to 2nd on the field that's on 52nd and 12th Ave. Otherwise, I think this seems like a nice place to sit--there are benches and shade on the 11th Ave. side. This park lies near Riverside Dr. (or Joe DiMaggio/Henry Hudson/whatever you want to call it) in Hell's Kitchen. If you are looking for a dog park, this is a great place to go. They are even in the process of adding a "small" dog park next to the current one. Pros: - Lots of old-growth trees and benches make for a great place to sit and relax on a hot day. - Dog park has running water and a kiddie pool. - Ballpark is magnificent! - Handball and ball courts available - Flowers and plants galore. The dog park here always has too much diarrhea and poop that is not picked up. My dog stepped in poop 2x while she was playing with other dogs. I know they have a hose to keep it clean but nobody seems to use it. It only makes common sense that if your dog has diarrhea, then do the best you can to pick it up and then hose down the area. If your dog doesn't like horses then this may not be the park for you. There are some horse stables on the street below, so you can see them coming and going from the dog park. I do like how the park is mostly cement so you can come during any season and not have your dog covered in mud or clay. (Like the majority of the other parks) Overall this is a great neighborhood park with ample room for your dog to play fetch or run around with other dogs. Great neighborhood park, with a nice dog run (actually two, one for medium/large dogs and another for little dogs), which is why I go almost every day. It's a great space that is kept up well and has lots of room for the dogs to run. In the spring/summer, they also have a large and small swimming pool for the dogs to cool down. Dewitt was a great dog park to take our 10month old Morkie to. There were a lot of other dogs there and everyone was really behaved and their owners were even better! No homeless as others had stated, but I am sure it happens. We are new to the neighborhood and we are extremely happy that we found such a great place to take our pup. read more

this is one of the worst parks in the city, you cannot play softball here, there are 3 fields and the outfielders from all of the 3 fields can practically shake each others hands, its really dangerous to play over here, i would not recommend to join any league that has its games here, if you want to play a pickup game during the week, its hard to find a field unless you have a permit, bathrooms are dirty over here, they also have a basketball and handball courts only thing is that it is a turf field and it drains very well when it rains, this is close to the west side highway and the easiest way to get here is by bike, nearest train stop is on 8th ave, there is also a playground for kids, toto ramen is right down the block for those of you who want to wait a long time for food, also close by is american retro, a bar that a lot of people go to after a softball game read more

This is my favorite place to take my dog. It's a quiet little park and the people are always friendly as well.

If you Google Map this field, it looks like a big dirt patch. Google Maps should really update their photos. It looks nothing like that now. After a complete renovation, the ball field is a new turf field and there are even stadium lights set up for night games. I kind of wish we had more games scheduled here. It's a bit of a walk from the subway, but it was kind of surreal walking down a tree-lined 55th Street... I didn't know there were trees in Midtown. read more

A little oasis of a dogpark... Luckily I spotted a listing of this place on a dog-owner website and took the 10 block stroll up there on Sunday. There are two dog runs...One for dogs under 25lbs, one for the rest of them. My pup is 25lbs on the dot so I opted to take her in to the bigger dog area since she is a kick-ass wrestler. Unfortunately, given the fact that it was cloudy and chilly out, it was pretty much empty (I always wonder...do these surplus dogs I find romping around on pleasant warm days just get locked up all winter until it's nice enough for their owners to come out??). The ambiance is lovely, though...Plenty of benches amongst the trees. It actually feels like you're in Central Park, especially when comparing it to the concrete dog run on the West Side Hwy (next to the Intrepid) or the private dog park under the bus bridge that connects Port Authority to the Lincoln tunnel. They really did a nice job with this place...I'll definitely be back when there's more pups for Daisy to play with. read more

This is a great dog park, except for one thing: The kiddie pool. It's disgusting. What you see in the pictures was perhaps true a few years ago. Now it's a decrepit, slimy bath that people fill in and all the dogs pee in. Then the water stagnates for a few days, and then I bring my hound mix here so she can jump in and wallow immediately in the dirty water. This requires bath-time right after the park. Is this sustainable on a daily, or even a weekly basis? No. Best of all is the quasi-mafia of other dog people here who consider themselves regulars and who aren't friendly to the concern about the water being gross. Someone should put a little separation between the kiddie pool area and the rest of the run. Or, get a newer, cleaner pool. read more

This park is fantastic for many reasons, especially since it was recently renovated. Besides having a fantastic sports field for baseball/softball and can be set up to play soccer and football, it also has a Playground for kids and a Dog Park. Perfect for the entire family! I used to live in the neighborhood and really enjoyed this dog park. The people are really friendly (which is more than I could say for the other parks) and all the dogs have fun. Of course you will find your random owner that doesn't know how to handle their dog (like in every park I've been to), but over all it's a nice place. It's shaded, there are benches and they have a hose for water, which I think it great because I have an english bulldog and he overheats easily. read more

Benches, shade, water...check! These three key factors make this park a winner. It's big enough for my pup to run it out, but he's a Boston Terrier, so a larger breed might be a bit confined. People are usually pretty nice, and friendly. I wish there was a little grass, instead of all asphalt, but hey, it works. read more
