People are out with the kids this beautiful day! 01/06/21

Ruppert Park is my favorite neighborhood park to enjoy the trees as the seasons change. It's a favorite to enjoy flowers in the spring too. I always bring out of town friends to the park. In the past I would enjoy visits with friends closer to my age. They have since passed away or stopped sitting in the park. I'm happy they have finally marked off the section for dogs. The owners took over that area so now it's officially the dog playground! You still need to be careful of pigeons pooping on your head when you walk the perimeter. I've been blessed by their droppings on a couple occasions! Ruppert Park is still five stars to me!

When I visited Marianne W, we went to Ruppert Park, which is named after Jacob Ruppert, a brewer, public official and a National Guard colonel, amongst other things. Located in the Yorkville neighbourhood of Manhattan, Ruppert Park is a small park on 2nd Avenue between East 90th and 91st Street. There's a small playground, benches, and trees. Not the most exciting park, but it's alright if you need a place to sit and relax for a while. It was December when I visited, so it was a bit barren, but perhaps it's more lively and lush during the warmer months. [Yelp collections: NY Christmas 2022; Parks and Gardens]

The park is slated for a much needed renovation project which will happen in 2023, and is much needed as the park is old and many areas are in disrepair. It's almost as if the NYC parks dept is now doing little for major upkeep here until that time. Still, it's a nice locals park to being your dogs and kids to play in the shade.

    Dusty temporary dog run.

On the small side, better for little kids. No swings or sandbox. Close to our apartment which is a plus. And across from Dunkin Donuts!

Has anyone done kids Party in this playground?

I haven't seen one yet but I would recommend just walking the extra few blocks to Carl Schurz Park over by Gracie Mansion on the East River, way more space and way better views.

Soooo many bodies!…read more I'm guilty of visiting this playground only on weekends, but "crowded", here, takes a new meaning. Make sure to repeatedly warn your child of paying attention to kids running wild in all directions. Parents seem to be MIA... The playground is quite modern... there's even a half sphere kids can climb on (bare feet, or it won't work). Plenty of swings and climbable options. The place is divided into two areas for children of different ages... both very crowded (did I mention that?). There's a slide kids can use after climbing over big rocks... not the safest option when there are too many kids lining up (and pushing each other) to do it. With little else around to have your child move, this is the forced option. The silver lining is that you're in freaking Union Square, with all sorts of food (or booze... you may need some after a visit to this place) available to you.

The shiny dome climbing structure is amazing, as are the slides. It's always busy here, no matter the season or weather, but to me that just means the kids love it and are having fun. Definitely recommend for locals and visitors alike.

They are sparkly clean with a big reflection from the sun! It burned my eyes looking at them in the sun. One good thing about this park is the number of spider webs that you can climb onto besides the steps that you can go onto. This park also has clean sprinklers at the feet level and big sprinklers that come and go. Very clean and safe. Most important thing is the safety issue. I have a stroller with belongings and they were untouched the whole time I was in the park so that's a plus! Also this park is gated from the public and only families with toddlers and kids can go in. Very family oriented. Will definitely stop by more when I'm in this area.

The day I visited there were many Nannies with small children going in and out of the gate. It's a place I will not enter unless I'm with a friend that has small children. There's bucket and tire swings, an amphitheater spray feature, two granite slides set into a hill, a rustic net climber, and a sandbox and sand table. As I said I love this landscape with rustic structures and stone bridge. You need to visit and enjoy! By the way, no restroom!

We were on our 4th game of 5 on 5 on this slanted, slippery court with double rims as the Midtown skyline looked over us. We had gone 3-0 and already on wobbly legs but wanted one more to really push ourselves to exhaustion and be WHOOPED. A group of 5 17 year olds showed up and I was lowkey like damn I don't wanna play these little kids for our last game but whatever, they got next. We were going back and forth, and to be fair they were actually pretty good but just too frail to give us any problems. At 5'10 174 lbs, I'm a BIG guard. I'm left handed, but shot a right handed floater fading to my right as I'm trying to get better. If you can hit a weak hand floater on the run you will be tough to stop. I bricked it and this little 17 year old kid goes "that's a TERRIBLE shot" looking at me dead in the eyes. Like bro y'all are losing and you suck why you talking? He woke me up and I started actually trying really hard and lowkey busting their ass... but tbh normally I'm not even that good. It was just one of those days where everything was falling. I hit a 3 and yelled out "THAT'S A LAYUP." I drove hard left, euro stepped and hit a tough finish through 2 and yelled "I"M TOO BIG," while flexing. I switched onto little homie and he took a terrible stepback shot after I turned him 3 times and bricked it. I just whispered to him "I don't even gotta say nothing after that one it speaks for itself" which really pissed him off. Then I hit the game winning 3 and did the Dame wave to him as he walked off the court PISSED as hell. I sat down and then he got the courage to say "STOP TALKING SO MUCH" while he put his hand together to mimic me YAPPING. I almost stood up and said "HOW BOUT U GET WIN?" But then I realized I'm a grown ass man and there is absolutely no reason to be jawing at this little kid on a beautiful Friday in New York City. I just kind of laughed at myself and asked what is wrong with me lol. All in all, these runs were kind of weak and this court is in horrendous condition. The court on the westside highway is still my favorite in the city. IG @jnov_ Tiktok @jnov_reviews
