    I recommend visiting.

We were first here to visit the military memorial placed here by Contra Costa Blue Star Moms for US Army Captain John Hallett, III and US Air Force Senior Airman Jonathan A. Vega Yelner, both De La Salle High School graduates. We were second here to recognize, honor, respect, remember, and grieve at the sacrifice of GIs for here is a memorial for those military who wrote a blank check to the United States of America for up to and including their life. For I heard young voices softly saying: when you go home, tell them of us and that for your tomorrows, we gave our today. Captain Hallett, graduate of liberal arts public school US Military Academy, and his wife Lisa, had two boys, and a third child on the way when he deployed to Afghanistan in 2009. He was killed two weeks later, 25 August 2009, while on mercy mission. He never saw his daughter. I "live life like I want to so that I am not one of those guys who says, 'Dam I wish I did that.'" and "We are the forgotten. Doing the unthinkable. For the ungrateful." wrote Jonathan Yelner on his MySpace page. Yelner was proud of his Jewish and Puerto Rican heritage. At the top of his page is his statement: "Puerto Rican heartthrob is living each day like my last. Cause it might be." When Yelner achieved the rare rank of Eagle Scout in 2002, for his speech he chose the Shakespeare quote: "Be not afraid of greatness." After six years of US Air Force Service, Yelner died 29 April 2008, age 24, in a roadside bomb explosion after he had volunteered for Afghanistan to help local residents by improving their infrastructure, build new roads and buildings and set up water supplies. All Veterans and military memorials commemorate that highest obligation and privilege of citizenship is that of bearing arms for one's country. GIs and Veterans answered the call. Isaiah 6:8 ESV: And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, "Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?" Then I said, "Here am I! Send me." For GI's Serve not because they hate what is in front of 'em, but because they love what is behind 'em. De La Salle High School has taken pledge To Leave No Veteran or Active Duty Behind. 7 November 2021, the De La Salle Collegiate community dedicated their Wall of Military Honor to recognize alumni from De La Salle and St. Joseph's High School who have Served and are actively Serving in US Armed Forces. Centerpiece of their Military Wall is a picture of US Army Lieutenant Robert L. Poxon, Class of 1965, who died in Viet Nam in 1969. He posthumously received Medal of Honor in 1972, which Medal is displayed here. February is Black History Month. Today 6 February, in 2015 to come home from war as an Honorably Discharged Veteran only to then be killed by police sworn to serve and protect. James Howard Allen was a 74-year-old black US Army Veteran who had just had heart surgery. A relative of Allen requested police do a Welfare Check of Allen. Gastonia, North Carolina 2-year police officer Joshua Lefevers arrived at the home of Allen and broke into Allen's home from the back door just after midnight Sunday morning 6 February 2015. Police Chief Robert Helton said officers were concerned Allen was inside and 'in need of emergency assistance.' Police officer Lefevers immediately shot and killed Allen in Allen's home. Chief Helton says, "The gun was pointed in the direction of the officers, and a shot was fired that fatally wounded him." The gun wasn't even pointed at the officers!?! Did the police ever stop to remember they'd been called for a Welfare Check of a 74-year-old who had just had heart surgery? Apparently not. Did police ever consider a senior was hard of hearing? Apparently not. What about the fact that Allen's home was broken into by police at midnight? Allen's devastated sister, Mary Battle, told WSOC-TV she cruelly learned about her brother's violent death as she listened to her local news channel while preparing for worship on Sunday morning. The police couldn't even be bother to first notify Allen's family members!?! Battle contends, "I think that he probably thought somebody was breaking in his house or robbing him of something. There should have been a better way to handle this. Something else could have been done. I'm so mad; I'm hurt. I'm hurt." Mary's husband, Robert agrees, and thinks that his brother-in-law's reaction to seeing an unexpected intruder breaking into his home at midnight was a natural one, telling WSOC-TV: "He probably woke up, someone's breaking in on me so when you're by yourself you try to protect yourself." Allen's friend, Otis Thompson, told the news station that the response police met with should have been reasonably expected by the police. "You kick the man's door in. He's disoriented and he's in his own house, privacy of his own home; my first reaction would be to grab a gun, too." Inexplicably, an "investigation determined police officer Lefevers acted appropriately; was not at fault."

Can't really say enough good things about this place - being in town for a basketball trip to the area and from across the country - was welcomed with open arms. From the head of athletics Mr. Lopoz to their media guy Pat- was really treated to a helpful group who allowed me to broadcast and walk around. Their weight room is world class- still smells new and it's obvious the students take care of the place and are held to a high standard. Their lunches (which we were also treated to) were top notch as well- allowing students to choose from pizza, to mexican dishes and customized, as well as wraps, custom salads, and a full area of drinks and options. I had the southwest style salad, adding the chicken tortilla soup and a cookie. Cookie was moist and I'm not sure how the students are massive given the great food options they have here. Really impressive all-around.

Les Hommes De Foi. Men of Faith. De La Salle is excellent at raising men using the teachings of Christ in the Lasallian tradition. Upon graduation the men have received not just a worthy education but spiritual and moral orientation. Each man is fully capable of defining the meaning of success for their own life and live it as they so chose. The decision to commit my work life to public service was made in no small part by the influences of my experiences here. I graduated in '88. I still remain very close to friends I made there. Being a teenager and a high school studednt was hard but given the option I wouldn't change a thing. Never send a child to a high school because it has good sports programs. Prepare them to be quality people and they can be great at anything they want.

The greatest high school football game I've ever been to was last night. The two teams were De La Salle HS vs. Byrnes HS of South Carolina. The game was even televised on ESPNU and it was very entertaining. De La Salle won 56 - 28. My son is starting to get interested in football. So, I brought him along with one of his friends. They had a blast. Once the game was over, they went on the field and gave a couple of the players high fives. Add it to your bucket list if you like or ever played football.

Nephew goes there, he enjoys it and so far it seems like a good school. Give it 4 stars based on his opinion. That's about it.

Having been through the college application process once before , we knew what we wanted to look for in a college counselor the second time around and were so happy with our decision. She gets to actually know her students, cares and respects the decisions they make and works with them very collaboratively. My son always looked forward to his meetings with her and came back motivated and energized to do the tasks on hand. We had so many great choices when it came to narrowing down our options- my son was accepted to all UC's, got a full ride to the top LAC, and many acceptances and scholarship offers from highly selective private colleges. Bear in mind class of 2022 was faced with so many challenges! Without Audrey's coaching and insight, I do not think we would have been where we are right now.

His organization and the information he provides about all of the schools are amazing and reduced the stress of having to research all of the small things for each school I was interested in. The way he guided me to write the essay was efficient and saved me a lot of time as I didn't have to write the same essay for another question that was similar to the last. I was able to finish my essays by August. It was a big relief and the whole process seemed very manageable with his help. His ability to provide fluidity in my writing and his knowledge of college admissions helped me especially because my writing was "impenetrable" or difficult for someone who didn't know me to understand. Besides the support he gave me with essays, he was also very easily accessible and understanding. I had his number and if there was anything that came up in the way of a meeting, I could just text him and I got a response in less than an hour. Any rescheduling of a meeting was simple and caused no trouble. Chris is a very straightforward person and gave me the support and advice I needed to write my essays. He is also pretty funny and a down-to-earth person which helped as meetings didn't come as something I didn't want to do. Chris was a great college counselor and I recommend him as his understanding of the application process and his ability to tutor and write were a great help.

In fact, after my acceptance into Cal, the admissions team asked if they could publish my personal statement to help other prospective students. Out of thousands of applications, they remembered mine! I highly recommend Chris for anyone who struggles to put their thoughts to paper for a personal statement. Thanks to Chris, my life trajectory changed in ways I never imagined. Chris has also tutored me in other areas such as Math and Writing. Learning never ends and Chris is unceasingly helpful in all aspects of my life. He is the most incredible writer I have ever met. I also plan on using Chris' services when I enter the work force after college. Meticulously written cover letters, resumes and thank you notes will put you above the rest. Thank you Chris. I am forever grateful.
