Mount Diablo Highschool is very "interesting " to say nonetheless.. the first day back someone was held at gunpoint and was robbed for their backpack and we have students smoking in the bathroom stalls.. not to mention this phone pocket thing where it locks.. so overall it isn't a bad school per say but definitely isn't close to the best. read more

I can't even fully comprehend this school and the lack of cleanliness. This is one of our water fountains at the school that is growing mold. The safety hazard this is, if someone dared to even touch it or breathe in the fumes. There's only three water fountains that work in the entire school. Other than that every other water fountain that's around campus has their water shut off. And let me inform you we have around 1100 students. I've heard students complain about water and how it's hard finding good access to a clean water source. I understand this is a school and the water we drink will be tap but they rarely even clean their water filters and they mainly only prioritize the office water fountains. It's sad and seeing this just isn't right. We need water to literally survive and we have limited access to that when we're at this place for eight hours every single week. Please think before sending your kid off to school without a water bottle!! read more

After many conversational meetings with my colleagues we have decided to give mt Diablo 5 stars for its great security

I was a student at this school 3 years ago I am now a senior in home and hospital due to the trama of this school on November 11 2018 a group of 3 students extorted me and slapped me on November 14th I was going to get physically attacked because I didn't have the money they asked for and I got social anxiety/depression and heat hives I wasn't allowed to transfer because Mr.Barboza said nothing happened so I can't transfer him unless something happens and I quote "I don't want to ruin the schools reputation" well guess what your reputation has been ruined people around say that you've gone to school drunk and got in a fight with one of the cafeteria stuff people oh and Thanks to you not allowing my transfer I have horrible grades on my freshman year records for staying home out of fear of getting hurt. You and your school ruined my life and im speaking up for myself. read more

MDHS ain't that bad. Lots of bad press about this school. Today's media is quick to point out failures and flaws. Yes, MDHS has its share of gang activity, but that's pretty much par for the course for the area. Their are many surround high school that face the same problems. What the media doesn't point out is all of the outstanding programs that students have the opportunity to take advantage of. Opportunities that offer real life/job experience. MDHS has great hospitality academies. They have a restaurant that severs the community, and teaches students culinary skills. The food they produce is delicious. This isn't your typical Home Economics class. This is the read deal "I want to be a chef" education. They also have child care class, but I don't remember what it's actually called. They offer child day care. The students learn the fundamentals of child care and education. Then there is my favorite. The Digital Safari Multimedia Academy. (http://www.digitalsafari.org) I'm a graduate of this program. Here I learned out to be a graphic designer, website designer, and programmer. Straight out of high school I was able to get a 40K a year job because of this program doing web and graphic design. As a student if you want a great education you can get one here. My son is attending this school this year. We are new to area and this is the school he is zoned to attend. It's his first high school year. So far, the office staff have been very nice. The principal truly seems to care. My son seems to like the teachers too. I had to visit the school with my pet the other day. I snapped this photo while waiting. Mt Diablo High School - Middle Schools & High Schools Near Me - Concord, California

Mt. Diablo High has a fascinating history. Over 100 years old, it was the first high school erected in Concord, CA. When the owner died, his will specified the land be used only for a high school called Mt. Diablo High. With that in mind, no matter how much the state or the district hates it, and though our English books were from the '20's and crumbled in our hands, nobody can get rid of it and few appear willing to improve it. Vilified for its more ghetto characteristics and for the sub-par education (it was seized by the state last year), Mt. Diablo High has among the best Digital Safari courses in the nation and a bangin' color guard (which the student body actually didn't realize, because they wouldn't perform for an audience that threw batteries and rocks). It also has its own student-run gourmet restaurant, called Serendipity, where many an aimless transient or former gangster came to discover his future in creme-puffs. I didn't learn very much, granted, but Mt. Diablo served a more important purpose - it taught its student body that if you don't sort out your priorities, nobody's going to create them for you. It taught its student body how to negotiate space with multiple races, loose cannons and a vibrant underground economy. It taught its student body that peers matter, maybe even more than American history. Mt. Diablo showed us what life was. I wouldn't trade it for a different high school education. read more

I am saddened to read the one star reviews. I'm certain that those feelings are at least in part a result of the ongoing and tragic drop in support for public education, including absurdly low teacher salaries, which has been taking place in California, and nationally, for at least 20 years. When I attended public schools in Concord, from 1953 until 1966, beginning at Crawford Village Elementary, continuuing at Loma Vista Intermediate, and Mt Diablo, I feel sure they were among the best in the country. Looking at my 1963, 64, 65, and 66 Diablo yearbooks, fully one-third of the teachers were UC Berkeley grads. Teaching attracted many of the best college graduates from the best universities. That is far less true today and we are all diminished because of it. Nothing is more important than great public schools. At their best, they are the equalizer, the institution that can provide every child with the opportunity to improve their lot in life. We should end the "war on drugs" - several trillion dollars spent over the last 40 years without success, and try something else, *anything* else, and if that doesn't work we can always go back to what hasn't worked for five decades; cut defense spending in half; restore taxes on capital gains and dividend income to the same level as earned income (money made from wealth is taxed at a maximum of 15%; income from labor is taxed as high as 35%); and use the money to make American public education the best the world has ever seen; to stimulate the economy by putting people to work rebuilding our disintegrating infrastructure; to fully fund national healthcare with a single payer, Medicare-type system, and to reduce the Bush budget deficits. I digress. Mt. Diablo was the first high school in Contra Costa County and most students embraced the Diablo spirit and traditions. The most famous grad, then, and now, was pianist Dave Brubeck, who was on the cover of Time magazine in 1954 for his role in popularizing jazz music. I was a student here from 2005 to 2009. One star reviews are really disappointing. I was from a low income student while going there. I witnessed the fights and got in some. Im also from bay point. Does that mean Im a "stupid no good fucc"?! Yes i had to go to two schools to graduate. Olympic and Mt Diablo High. Mt. Diablo high is a school that I find more peaceful than other schools because I know what I had to do. Richard A., you ditched on lunch to get food. I grew up in Benicia, California, and moved to Concord the summer before my freshman year. As you can imagine, I was a bit anxious--a new school, full of people I didn't know and connotations of gang violence and drugs. But the fact of the matter is, that isn't the experience I had at Mt. Diablo High School at all. I was an honors/ AP student, and I definitely don't think that I got any less of an education than anyone who went to a school with more money floating around (like CV or Northgate). In fact, the preparation my experiences at MDHS gave me for college and for the outside world made my transition to college--even completely across the country--almost nonexistent; I was not only prepared for the academic work, I sat there wondering when college was going to get difficult (and still haven't found a science class as tough as AP bio set me up for). My ability to be a part of clubs and have leadership roles in them prepared me for jumping into college and undoubtedly played an important role in my life. It's unfortunate and heartbreaking that so many people have such terrible things to say about MDHS and their experiences there--especially because I know that with enough effort on their part, they would have had just as great of an experience as I did, if not better. I met my best friend there; I met the teacher who made THE single biggest difference in my life there; I met several other teachers who supported my endeavors and were always there for me if I needed them there; and, even though it wasn't always easy, I made the most out of my high school experience. From August of 2008 through June of 2012, I had opportunities--like Poetry Out Loud, the Mt. Diablo Peace and Justice Center's Peace through Art and Writing Challenge, an internship at a local veterinary clinic, and many more--that I would never have had if I had been anywhere else. I taught French and led a campaign to get bathrooms open (Pissing Is a Human Right, anyone?) both in my senior year, and I wouldn't trade it for anything. I am now a student at the University of Maine at Farmington double majoring in creative writing and pre-professional biology, and because of my experiences at Mount, I can still graduate within four years with a dual degree and honors. The problems people see and have with Mt. Diablo High School are not really there, not to the extent described here. The only thing that needs to change for the school is that Mr. Reynolds needs to be brought back--he shouldn't have had to leave. The rest is up to the students, so the rest of the community can see what all of us Red Devils have known is there all along. read more

I came from Pittsburg high school which is known for being one of the best schools. But I can truly I love mount diablo more then I do pitt. Mount Diablo is not a bad school they're academics are way higher then Pitts & if you've never attended mount Diablo please don't speak badly upon the school. I can truly say mount Diablo really does care for there kids & not to mention the teachers are wonderful I loved my time at mount & the digital safari academy *dsa* is the best academy read more

I work around the school and student stand near front gate and smoke weed at their breaks. Everyday they smoke weed on the door step of the church next door before school. There is obviously no campus supervision. read more

As a DSA Mt. Diablo alum, I had a great time being in the Digital Safari Academy. The academy is focused on multi media subjects such as photography, a little bit of video production, photo and video editing with Adobe Photoshop SC6 and Final Cut X, a little bit of music making, and graphic design. The education development is challenging but it prepares students for college courses in the future. Now, as a current student at The Art Institute of California - San Francisco, I look back on DSA Mt. Diablo as a way of my pre-foundation before becoming a film major. read more
