The field has no designated running zone around it - a small track-like path would be nice. I remember having to run in junior high. Hopefully kids still have to do this. There is an area of the pavement I guess they could use for running but it looked more like sprinter lanes. I did like that they allow access to the field though. Only a couple other people were there. ONe runner and 1 softball player with two adults helping pitch to her. I'd like to purchase some nets for this school but not sure how to start this process. Maybe calling the District? Perhaps they have some already, but they're not up... At least there wasn't much litter on the field or courts. 10/10/12 update: So I bought 8 nets (well, someone else paid for them, but it was my idea). :) Fingers crossed a person can't get in trouble for putting these up (semi-)anonymously. Now I need a ladder!

On top of that, some teachers act like they don't care whether students understand the material or not. When concerns are brought up, they're ignored. It feels like the school cares more about its image than the actual students. This place seriously needs accountability and major changes.

The administration didn't do much to stop the violence, it really just sorted itself out which was lucky. The principal was an unenthusiastic mess, she focused on minor problems like dress code and running in the halls instead of the violence that happened all over campus, and really never solved problems brought up by students/counselors. My teachers were overall pretty good, but some were terrible. My eighth grade math teacher Mr. Woolridge, was an oaf. He didn't know how to spell or even do the curriculum. He strictly went by the book and only went over problems were they give you the answers. Luckily he was fired and left right after the 2024 school year ended. Overall I can say that the school has gotten better since 2022, but is still a violent and overall lacking education and administration wise.

It was the most uncomfortable feeling I have ever had going to the Admin Office. I all ways felt the atmosphere or mood of the office starts from the top. Talking to several teachers they all have delicately said Principle Bain is very busy and has alot on her mind which is why she doesn't engage in a positive friendly manner with parents or students. I just stared back at the teachers in disbelief they just smiled back what else can they do if they want to keep their job's.

They sat in their chairs shuffling us out to look around. No information packets, no actual tour. The last person we met on our self-guided tour was so helpful and provided so much information. We were grateful for that. You also need to be aware, they have an open campus. Kids 13 and above can not only leave campus to go to the store or the library, but they can also "chaperone" younger kids to go along with them. I do not know of any 13 year olds that could fend off an abductor or stop a car, or protect a child from injury. Even if the school had been perfect in every way, that would have been the nail in the coffin. I'm sorry but for $21,500 annual tuition, I would expect the place to be clean and organized. They currently have 13 kids enrolled. I would also expect books and information to be current. There is no working AC. Makes one wonder where the $21k per student goes? Most of the building, supplies, furniture, games, etc. were run down, raggedy even. Very disappointing. We compared this to The Open School (virtual) and were so disappointed. Also, if you are looking for cultural diversity (my grandson is Filipino/American) this is not the place for your child. We were very clear with my grandson that he could make the decision on this school. His decision was he never wanted to go back there. The Sudbury model is such a great educational theory. But this school is a very poor representation of that model. There is a Waldorf school in Walnut Creek, you may want to look at that.

From the very beginning, the sense of community stood out. The teachers are not only knowledgeable, but genuinely invested in their students' success. They go out of their way to support each student individually, whether it's academic help, college guidance, or just being there as a mentor. My daughter feels seen, encouraged, and challenged in the best possible way. Academically, the school offers a strong and well-rounded curriculum with plenty of opportunities for students to explore their interests, whether that's advanced classes, arts, athletics, or extracurricular activities. There's a real emphasis on developing confident, well-rounded young adults, not just good test-takers. What I appreciate most is the environment. It's supportive, inclusive, and motivating. Students are encouraged to be themselves while also striving for excellence. There's a healthy balance between academics and personal growth, which has made a huge difference in my daughter's confidence and independence. Communication with parents has also been excellent. We always feel informed and involved, and it's clear that the administration truly cares about both students and families. If you're looking for a high school where your child will be challenged, supported, and inspired, I highly recommend Carondolet. It has been a wonderful experience for our family.

There was a distinct difference between how the boys were treated and how the girls were treated during my stay at Carondelete. I was a student there a long time ago. Far before Yelp! however I feel that my experience needs to be shared with prospective students and their families.. I would never, as an alumni send my daughter to Carondelete. Save your money. This school will teach your daughter that she is less than her male schoolmates. For example, during a coed civics class the boys claimed that the woman victim in the famous Miranda case (the case that enshrined the right for every suspect to be informed of their legal rights in a language they could understand) should have been raped if she suffered such an offense! This conversation was glossed over by the school administration. No pupil or instructor suffered any disciplinary action. In fact, by being offended by the assertion that the female victim in the Miranda case should have been raped rather than have her purse stolen, I was made to feel like an outcast. I can not stress it enough. If you value your daughter's autonomy and her sense of self, do not send her to this school.

The kids are bright and quirky and kind, and the teachers and leadership truly understand how to support 2E/ASD kids in ways that will prepare them for life after high school. My teen has become so independent in just a year at Orion, and I am confident that this will only increase as they begin the transitions program in 11th grade. Social emotional, speech, executive function, and self-regulation support is cohesively built into all aspects of every class in ways that are clearly transferable to other settings during and post-high school. The school is 100% committed to helping prepare every student for whatever their goals are for after high school. As a bonus, the school is super sensory friendly in all ways, something no public school IEP can really accommodate for. Dr. Stewart has designed a real gem of a school!
