I dealt with Mike DeJung 9 years ago. I never wrote a yelp review because I don't really like them. Also, my wife was dying of cancer and there were more important things to deal with. However, upon reflection, dealing with Mike was the worst business experience of my life. All of things that the other negative reviewers said are true. Mike is arrogant and demeaning. I took my Boxster to his shop to have the convertible top mechanism repaired. It took several months, several broken bows and a lot of money and he was never able fix it. I would try to strategize asking for status as he was show difficult to talk to. One time, I noticed my car was sitting outside with the windows down. I mentioned this to him. The next time I went in, the interior was soaked. No comment from Mike. One time, I went into the back of the shop because he didn't answer my shouts. He gave me a lecture on touching other people's expensive cars. There was no touching. At the end, after a couple months of repeated failures I decided to cut my loses and take my car elsewhere. He asked me what I thought was fair for his final charge, I I was kind of dumbfounded. I should have said he owed me for my time and money. However, I paid Mike a little more more just to get out of there. I went to Dibble's and they fixed the top with one visit and at a reasonable charge. It's still working 9 years later. Known Steve for years, he has worked on various Porsches of mine (356, 911, 970) he is a great mechanic and is very straightforward on his diagnosis. If he cannot fix a problem he is good about referring you to someone who can. I trust him completely. read more

I have been coming to De Jung for years with a problematic 986. At this point, I'd be surprised if the bulb on my check engine light doesn't just burn out one of these days with all the codes this car has had since the day I got it. My saving grace is Steve at De Jung. He always gets me in quick for a diagnostic(oftentimes day-of!), gives me a recommendation, and doesn't pressure me at all to go one way or another. Aircooled mechanics aren't that plentiful. Years ago...Steve rebuit my transmission on my 914 and when i got it back it started making some loud alarming noises .He was very dismissive and wouldn't even take the time to look under the car. This led to me losing power on hwy 101 in a very dangerous situation. It was towed to Matt McCoy German Auto who found that the cv bolts were left loose! I decided to count myself lucky that I wasn't killed and moved on . Today I stopped by Jung and told Steve about what had happened years ago and gave him a chance to own up to his arrogance and a mistake that could have cost me my life. Nope no such response.!still graceless and dismissive. If this guy is such a great detailed mechanic why would he perform such an amateur and dangerous mistake. The owner is a pretty busy guy, and very knowledgeable with Porsche. I recently purchased a 2006 911 Carrera. We spent some time in the vehicle, test driving it. Our interaction could have been handled with "drop the keys and I will spend an hour looking it identify the problem" but Steve is so concerned with instructing me when I'm allowed to talk, the fact that my opinion of the problem is insignificant, history of work done is irrelevant, how to scope the conversation, which changed from telling me i know nothing to what approach to take. I heard he is a nice old man before going to the shop, but I had a totally different experience. It was raining and he had the garage door closed. I entered through the office door looking for him and saying " HELLO" loud enough to be heard but apparently he did not hear me and once i was close enough to speak at a normal level, he got scared and the next words out of his mouth were "NEXT TIME I WILL SHOOT YOU. I'll admit that he's not for everyone but once you get to know him he is a GREAT person - no fluff here, absolutely straight up. He is a one man shop and his work is as perfect as can be. We've been going to Steve for many years as he's lovingly cared for our BMW and Porsche. He doggedly works to find cost-effective solutions to difficult problems yet has the experience to pick out answers to common problems. His honesty gives the customer peace-of-mind in a world where auto dealer repair seems shady and unreliable. He's a great alternative to those shops, and you always know who is actually working on your car. He is a meticulous and articulate mechanic who takes pride in what he does. A true professional. When you go there, look at the shop. No mess or grease. Looks like you could eat off his garage floor. He can be a bit "chatty", but you always go away learning something about your car or the world of Porsches. I always love our discussions about cars! Most notable experience: I have an 88 Porsche that had the engine stall out unpredictably. While it rarely did it for Steve, he finally got it to stall, spent hours finding out where it was coming from, gave me alternatives for the repair (a rare and costly part), but wound up calling a friend of his in SoCal who knows about these parts. His friend guided him through opening my part where he found a broken solder joint. He re-soldered it, and the car has been perfect ever since -- and he did this all at a very modest cost to me. I was referred to Steve by a smog specialist and had been looking for a good Porsche mechanic in the North Bay since moving here 4 years ago; don't like to go to the dealers. If you want a lot of chummy conversation about the weather and sports, Steve is not your guy; but if you want a fair, knowledgeable and skilled mechanic who really loves Porsches then you should definitely bring your Porsche to Steve. He did a bunch of odds and ends type work on my Boxster S and I was very pleased with the result and reasonable cost. I will definitely be returning in future for regular services. Went to Steve the owner of the shop with my BMW which just came off factory warranty. Did not feel like paying the $1700 the dealer wanted to do the front and rear brakes. Steve first told me to wait until the brake warning light comes on to do the service. That got me an extra 1000 miles on my old brakes. Dealer said they had to be changed ASAP. I scheduled an appointment and dropped off the car. Steve took the car for a test drive both before and after servicing the car (he does this to all cars he services). Steve called me and told me that yes indeed both front and rear need to be replaced gave me a quote and that's exactly what it came out to be. Parts $720 and $240 for labor. He saved me over $700! and he uses only factory parts no cutting corners here. No charge for topping off fluids and giving the car a thorough inspection. What can I say? Excellent service by someone who's not trying to rip you off that's what I say. If you have a BMW or Porsche (the only cars he works on) I highly recommend taking it to Steve de Jung. read more
