Spinach pie, cheese pie, meat pie, feta pie, sweet cream pie...
PIE PIE PIE!!!!!
If you've ever had the pleasure of sinking your teeth into crispy Greek pastries filled with feta, spinach, or meat topped with fresh oregano then you can imagine my delight when I heard about a street food stall in Waterlooplein serving fresh Grastries (greek pastries) that are flown in from Greece in order to avoid the questionable quality of ingredients one finds in the Netherlands.
I had a Greek colleague take me this afternoon and on the Gemeente Amsterdam side around the middle of Waterloopleinmarkt, you'll find a couple of street food vendors. I was no joke the only non-Greek person there and for €2.50, you get a good portion of these pastries filled with various things like 4 cheese and bacon, spinach and leek, chopped olive and even sweet cream. I felt like I was on the streets of Athens again! And to top that off, they serve Freddo Espresso (Greek iced coffee) using greek coffee beans (so think turkish coffee but iced and with foam). It was peeeerfect for a 28 degree Friday lunch sitting outside.
Now... if you have NOT had these before than you better get your malaka asses over before you upset Apollo along with a slew of other greek gods who love some Grastries! OPA!!! read more
