I hate bad customer service. A lot. And I hate being treated poorly because of age/ethnicity/supposed-socio-economic-status. I hate it. With a passion. And somehow I took great delight in being treated like a criminal at De Beers because I knew that I could vent on Yelp and warn all you people away from this awful store. I love nice things. Mostly to look, but we also love to splurge. My husband works right across from De Beers and when it opened last week he was really, really excited to see some of their unique and beautiful pieces. We've been hunting for a pretty earth tone diamond for me and De Beers (being THE diamond experience) claimed that they could get it in for us. So I finally make my stop in the store yesterday. It is Friday, I'm about to go to dinner, so I'm just wearing jeans and a nice top. You'd think I was flashing a gun around and about to break the glass and steal everything. They looked at me like I was a criminal. I felt compelled to keep my hands where they could see them so that the 90 lbs. security guard wouldn't try to tackle me to the ground. There were 4 salespeople (one woman) and the scrawny security guard. All of them avoided eye contact, two of them left the room when I got there and the other two were trust to guard me in case I wanted to hold them up I suppose. They continued on with their nice little conversation and looked me up and down as if wondering what I was doing there. I saw a few things that I fell in love with (including a necklace that my husband was planning to buy as a late anniversary gift), but their attitudes kept me from even asking to have them pull it out. I left in a huff. This is not Dallas. We're not overly pretentious. I've been at the Galleria enough to know that the people wearing sweat pants and a baseball cap are usually the ridiculously rich ones. The workers at De Beers have not learned this yet. One of the highest profile customers at my husband's store is a lady from College Station. She comes into the store in neon shorts and a fanny pack whenever she's in town and drops $10-40K every time. She was there the first day that De Beers opened and bought a $15,000 ring. She was back in town the next week for their "Grand Opening" and they pretty much didn't let her in the door. Big mistake. I'm assuming she'll never shop with them again. My goal now is to pull a Pretty Woman and take my mother in there. My parents decided to become filthy rich after I moved out of the house (isn't that how it always is?!) and they love to spoil my mother. A lot. As in many carats worth of spoiling. She currently wants to upgrade her ring another 2 carats (plus all the diamonds around the band itself), and needless to say that it would add up to a hefty commission. That being said, I'm now planning to take my mother in there in all her sparkling glory and have her pull out all sorts of rings (while I was in there, I didn't see one center stone as big as her current one) and then leave by reminding them that bad service to a seemingly unimportant client can ruin a bigger sale in the future. I do not know the gentleman's name who assisted me but he went above and beyond to get my rings cleaned given the extenuating circumstance is of my visit. I will never buy from De Beers Galleria! I was told to remove my baseball cap by the security guard when i was already in the store and asked why and continuously told me to remove an LA dodgers cap because i need to see your face for facial recognition and we don't allow caps. For facial recognition he said. Was my face hidden? No, my head was covered obviously and because its cold. I personally felt stereotyped. I then called the manager(Renee/René) for an explanation and better understanding and she became a bit frantic while trying to remain professional stating that there is a policy of no caps or anything on your head or face. Then i asked what of various cultures and religions that wear various headwear or clothing that cover up everywhere , will you ask everyone to remove their headgear each time they came in? She continuously iterated about the policy that is nowhere to be found and then says its for safety and due to theft. And then says unless its religious purposes, no caps (at that point in time). Do you know my culture, religion, health, or anything? Policies are documented and she could not tell me where i could find this policy. Shame on this store and the manager for such behavior. How do you create a "verbal policy(which could be made up)" for something so frivolous. One should not be stereotyped or singled out because their dressing is not up to par according to a store, it can be taken as profiling. read more

Been here several times over the last few months. Work with John if you go!! He's the kindest and most knowledgeble diamond expert. Very attentive and will address any questions/concerns. My fiance got my engagement ring from here and it definitely would not have happened with out John! He made my fiance feel comfortable by educating him on diamonds and went over all the different setting options.
