I was just looking at my ring today and remembered how awful my experience here was. My ring still doesn't appear to be missing metal anywhere, despite the claims they made. After one of their employees called my husband and spent five straight minutes insulting me calling my ring dirty and hypothisizing all of the things I could have done to make such a dirty ring while I was sitting right there in bed with him. Just to justify a $185 uncharge, and the owner's wife dismissed how that made me feel and even told me I wasn't the customer of a ring made for me because my husband paid for the ring. That was incredibly disrespectful. They also appeared to exaggerate issues with my ring to justify a such a small upcharge on a $40,000 ring. I'm glad I went elsewhere. Another jeweler made the exact same custom wedding band that I cancelled because of the incident for about half the price, it's beautiful and I've since purchased four more pieces from that store. Their loss. Every now and then I look at my ring and remember how completely they ruined what should have been a happy engagement and wedding ring experience. Instead of good memories, I think of an unpleasant experience with people I felt were unprofessional and more interested in creating extra charges than earning a customer's trust. Unfortunatley both my engagement ring and wedding band have this memory tied to them I wouldn't want anyone else to have to deal with these people. ** P.S. In response to the owner's reply: Your response repeatedly refers to "structural integrity." If your company genuinely believed a $40,000 custom ring that your company had made less than eight months earlier had structural integrity issues in 10 places, I would have expected a conversation explaining why your own work supposedly required that level of repair and why you were asking us to pay to correct those supposed issues. Instead, your employee spent nearly five minutes discussing how "dirty" my ring was and speculating about my cooking and hand lotion use while speaking to my husband, turning what should have been a routine service call into an insulting conversation about my personal hygiene while I sat there listening. Then you sent the highly magnified photos attached to this review, emphasizing how "dirty" my ring supposedly was, immediately after telling us one of the perks of sending it in was a complimentary cleaning. Rather than feeling like a courtesy, it felt like I mailed my ring to you just to be told how dirty it was. Then, when I questioned the recommendation, I was told I wasn't even the customer because my husband had paid for the ring. I am still bothered that this entire situation even happened. Instead of having a happy story attached to my engagement ring, I have to remember the "dirty ring" story, being told your own work supposedly had structural integrity issues in 10 places less than eight months after you made it, and then being asked to pay for those supposed issues, all while being told I wasn't even the customer. I still find that unbelievable. read more

I am one that is extremely detail oriented and demands the BEST. When shopping for engagement rings, I searched all over. Big name retailers and high end retailers alike. Some establishments would not show me something of high caliber unless I put a deposit down. They questioned my knowledge of diamonds and asked me to identify different color grades and clarity (thinking I couldn't tell the difference). I was able to with no problem. Then I met Brian Gavin. After researching every little detail and applying my own knowledge, I discovered Black by Brian Gavin. One thing I noticed when visiting other establishments is the sales associates trying to sell their product to you and convincing you of the quality. Brian Gavin doesn't have to do that. The product itself speaks for itself. If you are lucky enough to own a Black by Brian Gavin diamond, you know what I mean. Especially if you appreciate the small details. You notice the perfection of the ancillary angles and the fire it brings when hitting the light. I closely inspected several options and then found the ONE. Brian and his team were top notch and so accommodating during the experience. I flew out personally to meet the master himself. He is such a kind and knowledgeable individual who has a passion for what he does. You cannot go wrong with a Black by Brian Gavin. When I proposed, it was absolutely perfect. To this day, the diamond blows us away and it is so special to us. It represents our committee to each other and is a symbol of our love. The highest quality and most extreme beauty one could imagine. You have to see one in person. It is out of this world! If you know about how important a cut is on a diamond, you realize that Black by Brian Gavin is the epitome of perfection. I am so happy to have discovered Brian Gavin and his Team is wonderful. We kept it classic and timeless and went with a Novela setting in 18k yellow gold. read more

This place is truly a place anyone serious about diamonds should know about. My fiance and I were looking for the perfect diamond for me, and after much research, we found BGD. Luckily for us, it wasn't too far from us, so we made an appointment to come in. While they don't have store hours on the weekend, they are flexible about staying late on a weekday, which we needed since my fiance works longer hours. All of their inventory is easily searchable on their site, so we gave them some specifications and went in with 3 diamonds picked out. We worked with Lesley directly, who we both felt was very knowledgable and personable. Nothing felt at all pushy, but their product spoke for itself. We were able to view the hearts and arrows of the diamonds we looked at, and Lesley also went to get a slightly bigger diamond when I inquired about that one. We were able to look at wedding bands as well, which they also have a great selection for. I knew the setting I wanted for the engagement ring, and they knew exactly what we were looking for when we described it. We were fortunate enough to get a wonderful stone at a great price, and I happily refer all of my friends to them (apparently they have a referral program as well!). Especially if you are looking for a round stone, but really any stone, you cannot go wrong with coming to look at Brian Gavin's inventory. I can't wait to buy both of our wedding bands with them, and I fall more in love with my ring every single day. read more

When you are looking for a diamond that is truly special, unique, and of the highest quality cut, look no further than BGD. I wanted to find the perfect engagement ring for my wife. After doing much research, comparing retail jewelry stores and online stores, reading forums and expert opinions, only one name continuously popped up with extremely happy customers with positive reviews : Brian Gavin. From his bio, BG is an expert diamond cutter, learning and perfecting the trade from family generations past. BGD's specialty, the perfectly brilliant round Hearts and Arrows cut. Named because that's what you see under a firescope (8 symmetrical arrows from above the diamond, 8 symmetrical hearts from below), this cut is the most precise, beautiful, and rarest to obtain. Looking up stats, only about 1% of all diamonds are cut in H&A because of how precise and time consuming the cut has to be. However, the effort is worth it and my wife's diamond was magnificent. Set in a platinum six prong setting, the fire and sparkle you see from this diamond under any light is spectacular. We were at the mall shopping, stopped by a Kay jeweler, and compared my wife's diamond to their nicest Leo diamond. Let's just say BGD was hands down "visibly brighter". No contest. The ease of selecting and purchasing an engagement ring at BGD's online store was fairly simple. Make sure to learn your 4 C's and decide on the perfect diamond for you or your significant other. Once payment is completed, BGD works on your ring to get it to you fairly quick. When the ring was finished, shipping was fast. I had to go down to the main post office in my area and pick up my wife's new ring with signature confirmation. This was the best. 100 percent confidence that your purchase will be secure and that the ring will get to you. The ring comes in a nice black with brown trim box. I saved it until the perfect day to give to my wife and the rest is now history. Thanks BGD for an amazing diamond ring and my happy wife and I would definitely recommend you to everyone we know. read more

Note: This review is about my Online experience - I did not fly to Texas! My diamond expert Auntie has been a happy BGD customer for years and I was just drooling over her 5 stone right hand ring (RHR) with a platinum trellis setting....SO Sparkly! Must have! So...I contacted Brian Gavin to get one, too! (Auntie gave her blessing - imitation flattery and all that!) What a wonderful experience! I've been schooled by my Auntie and the diamond Pricescope forum, that when it comes to high quality bling: NEVER SHOP A MALL JEWELER - and Jared is NOT your friend! Online jewelers can give you double the quality at half the price on all quality and custom jewelry (I invite you to see my review of Quest Jewelers, VA about my custom 2tcw platinum ring - IMHO Quest is the best for custom - BGD is great for their already gorgeous designs ) Working with the Brian Gavin team was great! With help, I picked out the 5 diamonds I wanted - each one just under .50 keeping the price more reasonable, each one super ideal cut and sparkly, color a mix of J & K, and a mix of clarity SI1, SI2, & VS2 with a total of 2.0 tcw. All set within that gorgeous platinum (for strength of every day wear!) trellis setting. The finished ring was GORGEOUS! It's a Stunner! You can also upgrade later, sending back your stones and getting larger ones! I've been idly thinking of upgrading to doubling it to a 4tcw trellis ring but that would be [gulp] $12,000 - ummmm I think I better just enjoy my 2 tcw for now! LOL You would think doubling a carat weight would be just doubling the price but nope...not with diamonds. Who knew!? So I got a stunner of a ring that would cost 3x maybe 4x in the mall- better quality for a LOT less. This is why you shop Brian Gavin! read more

Their service could be improved. This is more 3.5 stars, but I'm willing to rate this .5 stars higher because they do provide what seems like quality diamonds. I was in TX for work and thought I'd stop by for an appointment. Clearly stating this in the email that I sent a week beforehand (and I also said I was willing to drive a few hours to personally be there as I was in a neighboring city)... and the reaction I get? Attitude about them having "a lot of customers" and there was a possibility that if I'm late, I might not get to see them. Well, thanks a bunch for being so accommodating for a non-local. It's not like I requested a time close to their closing time either. I felt very taken aback by the comments made to me (and I made sure to notify them when I was running late due to traffic). read more

We haven't been out to their location, this is strictly for their online website and associated custom service. On a friend's strong recommendation, my fiance commissioned them for a custom engagement ring, and what is supposed to be a happy, exciting time turned increasingly frustrating and difficult until we finally cancelled the project. The Bad: 1) We received conflicting information regarding non-diamond side stones; the sales associate we initially worked with told us that we would have to source the stones ourselves, while almost two months later Brian Gavin told us that he preferred working with their own sourced side-stones. It doesn't seem like they have consistent policies, and that is incredibly frustrating as a consumer. 2) Our initially quoted ring design was based off their own internal miscommunication, and we never received a corrected quote. They also require the entire amount up front before they will lift a finger to draw up a design. This causes a lot of stress when it takes weeks for them to develop a viable CAD (which they were never able to in our case). 3) A lot of the communication (mostly over e-mail) turned increasingly difficult because they would take days to get back to us but if they called or e-mailed it seemed implied that we needed to drop everything to talk to them. 3) Brian Gavin did set up a phone conference to discuss the design quite late in the game; while he was very polite (including offering to repay us for the side stones we were forced to source), he seemed a bit patronizing and didn't seem as intuitive to me as reviews might suggest. About half the time I tried to say anything I was cut off, leaving me not wanting to ask any more questions or clarify any points. We felt less confidant in their ability to deliver a satisfactory CAD drawing after the conference, and if they knew they couldn't do it I wish they had expressed that to us rather than waste our time. 4) Their custom commission process in execution feels different than what they post on their website; they claim 10 - 15 business days to complete a project. It took 5 days to just receive a quote for the piece, and 7-8 business days to receive the first CAD (based off their internally mis-communicated design). 5) I don't know what their originally promised completion date was, but they pretty much missed every target date my fiance had planned to propose on. No amount of apologizing can give us those days or plans back. 6) When they handled the return, Lesley requested a certain (unusual) bank routing number that ended up to be the incorrect number for the wire transfer; it took them over a week for them to handle the return to my fiance's bank account. It's one thing to do this for a $100 gift, but absolutely frustrating for something numbering in many thousands of dollars. This further delayed when my fiance could purchase a ring we had found somewhere else. The Good: 1) Both Brian and his wife Lesley are very pleasant people, and they do genuinely want happy customers. Lesley in particular is incredibly gracious. 2) I do believe that their shop does excellent work, and they have beautiful diamonds. 3) I think if you purchased one of their stock pieces, they could execute this on time. 4) Their custom process might be better if you want something very close to a custom project they've already done or stock piece they already produce. read more

As we were looking around for a special sparklie stone, Brian Gavin Diamonds kept coming up again & again as highly recommended And let me just say.....finding a special stone is an exhaustive process! Who knew you needed a Master's Degree in Gemology? There are SO MANY factors to consider....it's not just the 4Cs & when you think you finally know it all, up pops another "critical" factor And while 1 place kept trying to steer us towards a larger stone w/ visible flaws, we were happy that Brian Gavin was willing to help locate a stone w/ the qualities & ranges we had deemed *important* to us.....I'm a quality over quantity kind of girl & bigger is *not* better when there are imperfections! The site is easy to navigate - you plug in whatever parameters you're looking for & out pop 1000s of diamonds for your review.....the details of the stone are included in the description & GIA reports are attached for further confidence. Some of the diamonds even have a "real" pic & you can use this zooming thing to surf around the stone to check its features....it's really cool! You may also notice they do not offer EGL diamonds - which immediately gave them bonus points in our book - you're looking at premium GIA or AGS BF & I initially found a couple of stones we thought were nice but they were unavailable....which turned out to be in our favor after speaking w/ the staff at Brian Gavin......our education was even further enhanced around why those stones weren't hitting all the ideal ranges & the exact factors that prevented them from attaining perfecton. We were extremely grateful for the guidance & would have been kicking ourselves later for choosing something that was not perfect in every way - which was the only thing I wanted. Is perfection really too much to ask? :-) Communication w/ the staff was extremely timely ( via both email and phone) & we felt well looked after. The shipping process was extremely secure w/ no possibility of being lost or stolen in transit After receiving our stone, we had it independently appraised & everything came back even better than expected. Thank you for securing our brilliant, ideal, sparklie dream! read more

I was looking for a very unique engagement ring for my partner, and couldn't quite find what I was looking for. Everyone had sub-par quality/rated diamonds at exceptionally high prices. This was until I came across Brian Gavin Diamonds. I came across the perfect ring, the "Connect the dots" in Platinum. I fell in love with this ring, at which point, I called in to enquire about certain things, and Jamie Carson was absolutely FABULOUS!! Being a newbie to this, they held my hand and explained everything. She was very personable, and felt as though she truly cared about my concerns. I purchased the ring, and they followed up shortly after delivery. The ring was PERFECT. I would HIGHLY recommend BGD for your jewellery needs. These guys are absolute pros in the diamond business. I had a great experience with BGD. I actually did not work with Brian Gavin but worked very closely with Leslie and she was very helpful at every stage. I never felt like she tried to oversell anything. Being a student she understood my constraints and consistently helped me pick a diamond and setting with cost in mind. They also have great policies about changing the setting, etc. This was also my first time making such a big purchase and all the staff was patient when I made multiple calls to confirm and alter my purchase. Overall I would definitely recommend them to everyone. My fiancee and I are super happy with the diamond! read more

When I first started the process of finding an engagement ring for my then future fiancee, I came to Brian Gavin Diamonds (BGD) through an intense Internet search. I wanted a super ideal diamond and a true Hearts and Arrows qualifier. I found that the super ideal Hearts & Arrows style diamonds were indeed rare and that Brian Gavin presented a research paper outlining the measurements to judge a super ideal diamond. Many appraisers across the U.S. use these findings to judge super ideal diamonds. In addition, Lesley was very helpful in teaching me about the measurements that qualify something for an H&A diamond. (Be careful as most claiming to be H&A aren't.) I also used the HCA tool on Pricescope and sites like heartsandarrows.com. In the end, I found my way back to Brian Gavin who had the best cuts at the best prices. I'm glad I selected BGD for the center diamond as it truly sparkles beyond any I have seen since. Too many people rush to buy a diamond without enough research. The cut is the key and super ideal diamonds are cut so well that they flash more brilliance and offer more light return causing the diamonds to look larger and more amazing. No diamond seems to measure up to the one I purchased. I also received a much better price than I could find locally or elsewhere on the Internet. (And don't be afraid of buying on the Internet through reputable dealers -- you have plenty of time to review with local appraisers so you can keep or return it.) After securing the center stone, I found my way back to BGD for the custom ring design. I have pretty exacting standards that often lead me to be a very particular and perhaps difficult customer. The BGD team was patient and creative. I wanted a custom designed ring and they really helped me to focus my vision and bring it to life. I hope they can keep up the great customer service because I have a feeling their business is going to explode and some businesses have growing pains as they get larger. In my experience, I got a better ring at a better price than any other option available! I had a great experience and I can highly recommend BGD. I worked with Brian and his team on an engagement ring. Brian was very helpful from my first visit onwards. He asked what my budget was, and showed me diamonds and bands within my price range. There was absolutely no pressure to upsell a diamond. Quite frankly, every diamond that he showed me looked absolutely stunning. I selected a diamond and setting- and was given an estimate of 2 weeks to deliver the ring. I received a call exactly 2 weeks later from Brian himself, telling me my ring is ready. I was very impressed with the ring, considering my modest budget. After I gave the ring to my fiance, the compliments simply didn't stop. There definitely is a noticable difference in the cut of the diamond that Brian sells, compared to other diamonds. I would definitely recommend that you check these folks out when you are out shopping for your diamond jewellry. read more

I have a Black by Brian Gavin custom made engagement ring and wedding band. I absolutely love it, one of the ring sets featured on their Brian Gavin Looks back at 2017 youtube video. Anyway , yesterday was my anniversary and my husband surprised me with a diamond (tennis) line bracelet he ordered from Brian Gavin... Once I got over the shock of this surprise gift, I then became mesmerized by the beauty of the stones , matching the fire of my center stone on engagement ring... long story short, I love it- my husband did not take any chances by going to a different jeweler - he knew going back to Brian Gavin and working directly with Leslie would end in a home-run ... and of course it did! read more

Disclaimer: I did not purchase my ring, but rather received it. My experience is not on the buying side. My fiance purchased my engagement ring from BG and he has nothing but good things to say about that process. However, my experience with them is going into the Houston office for a cleaning. I dropped off my ring for 36 hrs for them to steam clean and polish the dings off the Tiffany band. They did a MARVELOUS job. Leslie was very personable and knowledgeable. I'm not sure what her position is at BG, but she knew what was up. The lady at the front desk was a bit disorganized, but I understand they don't get many people walking in. She did say she was only in shipping, etc. The building BG is in is kind of in the ghetto. The building is an older high rise, so I wasn't impressed. However, that's probably why BG's value is so high. They're able to price it right and provide amazing customer service. I've been getting good follow up emails from Catherine following my visit, and I'm happy that I know my ring is being taken care of with them. read more

really terrible experience over the last 10 years. my husband bought me a beautiful platinum diamond engagement ring about 10 years ago (~$25K at the time). the center stone is raised high on a fairly petite stand and within a year the ring had become quite misshaped with no trauma or inciting event. we tried to get the ring repaired with them as part of the warranty. they said no way was it wear and tear and I must have done something to the ring.... well I hadn't. As they wouldnt repair it we had to get insurance to repair it, which was great. over the years, I think due to the design and height of the central stone, the ring had become similarly misshaped. we reached out to them again and they said it was not covered this time because insurance had the ring repaired in 2015 and not Brian Gavin's (... Well it's not like we didn't try, they just outright refused to fix it at the time). so again we got insurance to cover the repair, this time the repair was done by Brian Gavin's. the ring was ~size 5.0 and I told them that the ring had to be a size 4.0. they made it to a 3.5 and told me once it was repaired that I would need to pay $125 to get it resized to a 4.0, even though it was clearly their mistake. I am working out how to proceed because honestly having spent so much money with them and honestly every time we deal with them I feel swindled and upset. they have an accusatory tone and a very unpleasant manner. We will never buy from this company again. read more

The story began on July 8th. I started by looking at few online diamond selling web sites to buy about 65 diamonds with perfect H&A, Ideal scope and ASET scope images to get a Riviera necklace custom made by my local jeweler. I have a time deadline. My daughter's wedding is 6 weeks away. I visited Tiffany and Harry Winston but could not find what I wanted. I visited at a couple of local jewelry stores in town. They are mostly interested in doing salesman talk (wasted my time). Noen can meet my quality of cut criteria. I hired an online diamond consultant to help me. We were was browsing thru different web sites trying looking to select about 65 diamonds. Every one of them must be perfect H&A, ASET and ideal scope image. Every diamond must have exact matching pair of same diameter stone. The diameter of every one of these stones must meet my criteria of 6% taper from largest to smallest. Once the diameter dropped to 5 mm, we decided not to taper the remaining stones. Initially I was trying to order diamonds from different online vendors in various diameter sizes to create a smooth gradual tapering of the necklace. That was the only choice since I needed about 65 stones with top of the line H&A , idealiscope and ASET scope images. No single online vendor carried this many stones for quick delivery with DEF color and VS1 or better clarity etc.. Soon I realized, ordering from multiple vendors, then finding some one else to fabricate the necklace will be a nightmare. I was more picky to make sure the diamonds have the best sparkle in low light. The light return has to be top of the line. I am looking at ASET and ideal scope images to eliminate poor light performance diamonds. After spending a few days, I relaized it was impossible to collect 65 diamonds with DEF and VS1 or above category and only H&A in such a short time. Luckily I was referred to Brian Gavin to help me get this diamond necklace made for my daughter's wedding in such a short time. My first call with Brian is on 7/12/2015. I told him about my being very very picky on the quality of cut and light performance in low light conditions. He listened to me fully and his answer is "Don't worry, we can do this for you". I expressed my concern if he can create piece of jeweler in such a short time without compromise of diamond quality or workmanship. His answer is "Don't worry and trust me". He made 2 trips to Belgium in such a short time to personally make sure the correct stones are selected and cut to the highest quality. I am insistent that the gap between diamonds can not exceed 0.3 mm and the metal join piece joining the 2 rings (baskets) should not be easily visible when we look at the necklace from 3 feet distance. I told him that the 95 platinum wire used to create the 2 ring basket must be very slender ( as low diameter as possible). I am concerned if the platinum wire is of thick diameter, it does block some light getting in or out of the diamond. Brian flew to Belgium and had the diamonds cut to my requirements. He shipped to AGS lab his 1st batch of production close to 80 diamonds just in case some of them do not meet my criteria. He personally inspected every single piece and decided not to accept some diamonds that came out of production the 1st batch. He flew back to Belgium again to supervise production of 20 more diamonds to meet the shortfall after the 1st batch of production was evaluated. The 2nd batch was sent to AGS for certification. Finally he was able to select 65 best diamonds. I was quite worried about the workmanship of the Riviera Necklace. What good is it having top performing diamonds but the workmanship of setting these diamonds is not the best. I was insistent that the gap between the diamonds can not exceed 1/3rd mm. I never liked too much gap between the diamonds and exposing the join piece behind. I was insisting that the platinum double rings and the prongs wire diameter be as thin as possible ( small diameter), to block the diamond as little as possible. His jeweler making staff worked not stop including the weekend for close to 180 man hours hours to make this happen before the wedding deadline. I was getting ready leave town for my daughter's wedding out of town. He flew in and hand delivered the piece in the airport (as promised) 4 hours before my departure. When he delivered to piece, it is stunningly "brilliant" and sparkling. It is almost impossible to see the basket rings or the prongs unless you are very close the the necklace. The distance between each diamond is perfect (just enough gap to prevent the diamonds rubbing each other and chipping). The workmanship is top quality. When my daughter wore the beautiful piece of riviera necklace, tears came out to express the appreciation of the workmanship and the sparkle of every single diamond. Every one who looked at it, the jaw dropped and the eyes stopped blinking. When Brian promises, he delivers 100% of what he says read more

The most beautiful diamonds in the world, superb customer service (thank you Jamie/Lesley!!!), and highly skilled craftsman/production team make for the perfect place to purchase your jewelry! You don't have to spend a fortune to get a super ideal diamond in their inventory, they have a diamond for every budget! Whether it's a K color diamond and/or SI1, the brilliance, fire, and sparkle will mask any hint of color and/or inclusion, making the diamond appear frosty white. When we make large purchases, whether it's a car or a home, we expect the car to run and the house to provide us shelter... same goes for diamonds - they're meant to be brilliant, fiery, and sparkly. Do yourself and your partner a favor and never sacrifice the cut of a diamond -why purchase a diamond that doesn't sparkle? The diamonds that BGD provides are mind-blowing and true super ideal cut! The ASET, Idealscope, and Hearts proves it! Ask BlueNile, ShaneCo, or any local jeweler for these images and they will either deny what it is and/or not provide them, which tells me they have something to hide. P.S. My fiance wears a ring size 3.15 (most places won't dare to go below a ring size 6) and they were able to craft a fishtail pave e-ring and wedding band with precision and perfectly symmetric. The diamond is eye-catching and blinding! She can't stop looking at it and gets compliments everywhere she goes. She calls it her "precious!" ;) read more

Not only did the resizing process go so well, but my ring is simply gorgeous. Tons of compliments on it. I would recommend Brian Gavin as their rings are beautiful and their service is outstanding. read more

Everyone at Brian Gavin Diamonds was fantastic. From educating me on diamonds and settings to helping me pick out the perfect ring for my fiancé, they were extremely nice and knowledgeable. What I thought would be a nerve-wracking experience was very fun and one I will always remember. As is the look on the face of my fiancé when I gave her the beautiful ring! I look forward to going back to Brian Gavin Diamonds for our wedding bands and any other jewelry in the future. read more

unbelievable from start to finish!! I got an engagement ring from BGD and worked with Kaity through email/phone and from start to finish had a very pleasant experience! The ring arrived today and it is soooo much nicer than i could have ever imagined, the stock pictures on the website do not do the ring in person any justice. I highly recommend the "Anita" setting if you are looking for a halo style ring. Absolutely amazing, and will def be coming back for the matching wedding band as well as any other diamonds that are in her future! read more
