While I love steak, steakhouses aren't normally my jam. That said, I've been to many top-level steakhouses over the years. I've found most of them to be overrated, more style over substance. So, that said, a recent visit to De Baca was a better experience. Yes, like at most steak-centric restaurants, a meal here is not free. But De Baca delivered the goods, from the ahi tuna appetizer to an excellent filet and delicious sides, all executed as one would expect from an establishment at this level. Our server Aspen did a great job ensuring we were taken care of, without hovering. Despite being on the edge of summer, we enjoyed a nice meal outside, but the inside dining area is also nice, without being too clubby. If a steakhouse is your vibe, De Baca is worth a visit. read more

I love De Baca! I always love De Baca. Their seafood, drinks, steaks, sides, all amazing! My favorites include: the house salad, French onion soup, raw tuna appetizer, cod, ribeye, beef Wellington, potatoes dauphinoise, and macaroni and cheese. I do not like their creme brulee; it's too sweet! Creme brulee should stand on its own. Without chocolate and toffee and candy and whipped cream on top. I also don't love the Calamari. They are thick and hard to chew. The service is always excellent, and the views from the window seats are lovely. read more

De Baca is an upscale steakhouse. There is a huge selection of wine and other spirits. Our server was extremely well versed in all adult beverages along providing suggestions with the vast options. The digital menu was perfect for viewing all the menu items (no needing a flashlight to view the menu lol). We ended up with the red deer as our appetite wasn't that great from too many holiday meals prior. The red deer was absolutely delicious (medium rare) and more on the lighter side. Presentation was superb. Flavor and tenderness are unrivaled from anywhere else I've been in recent time. When I return, I'd definitely love to try some of the steak options. Decided to venture out from our usual haunts and take the one hour trip from the Woodlands to College Station. De Baca is everything you would expect in an upscale Steak restaurant. Service and food were exceptional, as was the decor. Warm, inviting, perfect spot for a date night, anniversary or venue to celebrate that special event. Food: Tuna appetizer was not good, they cut the tuna super thick which made it have a weird chewy texture, could barely eat it. Ponzu sauce on top was good but the cut and flavor of the tuna was bad, by the pictures of it it was definitely prepared wrong. For $30 we got 5 hunks of fish but wasn't worth $10 imo. Beef tartare was delicious, would recommend. Butternut squash soup is a must, very good! We had the Chateaubriand for an entree and it was great, good filet with decent mash and sauce. The à la cart filet was also good, may have even preferred it. Brussels as a side was one of the best items we had. Dessert: Bread pudding was delicious 8/10, chocolate mouse cake was good, 7/10 it's soooo rich almost a bit dry but still good. Drinks: Absolutely superb limoncello martini, all others were great as well. Overall great, would come back. Want to try a few more things. We celebrated our 26th anniversary here and was so glad we did. Thalia, along with the entire staff made sure our evening was memorable and special. They remade the steaks for us but when they came out the second time they were rare in the middle and the outside was well done. The appetizers were delicious, but avoid the entrees. Also, we ordered two salads and they were subpar. Both tasted as if they were made with old lettuce. The desserts were delicious, and our server was very kind. She was so attentive and knowledgeable and she made us feel like close friends by the end of our meal! Chef Patrick and the manager came to check in on our meals and they were both so amazing! The food was good however my sister and I went there for dinner to relax and catch up as we do not get to see each other often . We arrived just as they opened for the evening. From the moment we sat and were assigned our waiter he stood over our table and thought we needed to know about his life, where he traveled and flirted with my sister. We were there just over two hours as we wanted a full course meal and were there to relax and enjoy a meal. We were so thankful when the waiter was assigned a second table. He had another group to stand over and he did That's when we could finally enjoy our meal. I can probably tell you this man's life story he stood at the table and told us so much about himself. The doors are opened for you by the hostesses and it opens up to a very upscale beautiful round bar with seating at the large windows that look over a beautiful green are space! I absolutely loved this restaurants. I had diner on a Friday and returned for brunch on Sunday! The server on Friday was incredible (though I can't remember his name) and the brunch server (Tim) was amazing!! Tim was charming, knowledgeable of your menu, provided excellent and quality customer service! The food was delicious, service impeccable and atmosphere conducive to fun fellowship! The ambiance of our dining experience is the perfect date night or celebratory event! Escoffier is not happy with your Chicken Cordon Bleu. Such a simple thing to follow the ingredients to a named dish. If you want chicken with spinach and blue cheese give it a different name. Caesar salad, beef Wellington Be creative in the kitchen, but labeling things inappropriately show a lack of creativity in the menu. I know most are going to love your food, and it's good, but they are being introduced to the wrong dishes. read more

TLDR: This place is great! Went with a large group from a training class, the wait staff was attentive and friendly. The atmosphere is very relaxing, but classy. The food was outstanding. I ordered the buffalo and it was cooked just right. I was concerned it would be dry since buffalo is a very lean protein but it was juicy and very flavorful! I did "borrow" some melted butter from one of the guys at the table and that added a whole new flavor profile so I recommend ordering melted butter with the buffalo. The fire roasted mushrooms were great, as were the potatoes. I ordered an old fashioned, and to be honest it was probably one of the best I'd ever had. read more

The digital menus were a big change from the ordinary menus, but it provided an upscale feeling while also showing cool videos on how the cocktails are made and having pictures of every dish available. The only negative I have about the experience was the music volume. Depending on the song playing, it was hard to hear my wife across the table at times. Our server Dominique was the best part of our entire night. 2. The amuse bouche: Was okay, a bit dry. Can definitely do without that. 3. Burrata salad was delicious, no complaints about that. 4. Prime rib was cold and bread was also cold. We didn't expect to get charged for sour cream butter and chives for a basic baked potato. I think that's the first we've ever seen. We did order a side of scallops and those were a bit salty. 5. Our drinks were delicious, that was another plus. We ordered a dirty martini, espresso martini and a pistolero. 6. We really want to like this place. TLDR- we will give it another try because it definitely has potential. The dishes we tried: Stuff calamari- meh. Weird combo of cream cheese and calamari. Also cutting into it all the filling comes out making it messy and impossible to eat . 1 star Pheasant- my husband really likes his dish and said it was like what his mom used to make. 3 stars Sea bass- pretty good. Well cooked fish but it had same veggies as the pheasant dish. Potato dauphenoise was good. 3 stars Mac and cheese side dish- really good. Warm, thick and cheesy. Pasta was nicely cooked and the breadcrumb crust was really nice. 4 stars Choc cake- was ok. Nothing special that I can't get elsewhere. 2 1/2 stars. Service : almost excellent. We were very well taken care of and never wanting water or drinks. Small, very minor thing. When amuse bouche came we asked what it was they said, "uh, I think it's chicken. Let me get back to you." No big deal at all in grand scheme of the meal. 4.5 stars Ambiance and decor: beautiful! The view into the backside of the restaurant with the tree and greenery makes you think you could be in different town. The restaurant is beautifully decorated- very open and well lit. The owners clearly did not spare any expense. 5 stars. Our bill of $200+ for 2 people is a bit steep for food that was less than 3 star average. More like a 3.5 instead of a 3! I read about this restaurant in a MSN article! I was so excited to realize it was in my town, because there's almost never a restaurant from College Station featured online, so I couldn't wait to check it out! The pros: Chef Pat Swetnam definitely seems to know his stuff about steaks, mine was cooked great, and the restaurant is spacious and feels different from most of what you get around here, which was so fun! The cons: I wasn't a huge fan of some of the dishes, for it felt a little overpriced for the quality, and the menu could use a little more diversity. It was also heavier than I expected in taste, especially compared to how it was advertised in my opinion. It's too expensive, and maybe it could benefit from having some more refined and diverse options. I am willing to pay top price if it's really special and considered, but it didn't quite get there for me. That said, I'll definitely be back to give it another shot, and I'm rooting for this place!! read more

If you want a high end restaurant to serve you a cloudy water. That's a restaurant for you. When I saw that my water was cloudy, I immediately asked the server whether they've added lemon to their water. Her reply was no, they did not. But why is the water in a clear glass would come out cloudy? I told her I want to change my water, the server immediately gave me that you are being picky look. I mean if a new restaurant like theirs can't put forth the most simple clean water on my table then think about the food they are going to serve on your table! It might be a health violation. Maybe we should call the health department to find out. Also, for the price you pay for the food I expect the restaurant to look more high class. Their bar reminded me of one of those bars in the airport terminal. The rest of the restaurant was just okay. The food was not bad just that some bites of my fish was really salty and others was bland and the potatoes on the side was bland. For $50 I expect the fish to come out perfecto! The salad I had was good and the blueberries bread pudding was very good. But the overall experience of the restaurant was just ok nothing special. We went there for an early Father's day celebration. However, it is not to our satisfaction. read more
