Sprouts Farmers Market - Checking out the new store

I used to dismiss Sprouts as a Whole Foods knock-off with stores that looked like the set of "Supermaket Sweep." Now that Whole Foods has been Amazoned, with many of its former products swept off the shelves in favor of more Bud Light, Sprouts actually feels like the more genuine of the two stores. Whole Foods has gone completely bobo and goop-y; anyone who misses the old "crunchy" allure (but who just doesn't want to deal with the chaotic, dated feel of Lassen's) will appreciate Sprouts. Like Lassen's, this Sprouts does not sell alcohol (though some stores do). And like all such bio-fair-trade-vegan-free-range-macro-gluten-free-earth-loving stores, the prices are nothing less than profane. But I expect anyone going here already expects that; Food4Less this is not. The relatively new store is clean with helpful, friendly staff. Hopefully it will remain that way for a long time.

Is this a joke ? Self check out line was super long and also saw another store worker tell a customer who needed help at self checkout to wait until she's done wiping a counter. I use to work at Whole Foods so I get it but all these workers don't even try to give basic customer service.

    Henrietta - FRIED BROCCOLINI

There were no reservations available near 7:00, our preferred time, so we decided to try our luck walking in. We were pleased to find free lot parking and a light crowd, and got a table for four, no problem. It was a high top near the door, probably not the best table in the house, but it suited our purposes just fine. The restaurant was charming, cute and small with a European wine bar by way of Echo Park vibe. (The location is not what I tend to think of as Echo Park, but if you've been to the Clark Street, it's on that same stretch.) I guess it's a sandwich shop by day and an elegant bistro by night. It must be at least a little trendy because at one point a very made-up woman came in and recorded footage of the dining room on her phone (please tell me if you see me on TikTok). Service was great. We had a helpful, handsome waiter (another sign this is a trendy spot) who talked movies with us and attended to all our needs. We got a couple bottles of a French red blend, the Domaine La Grange Tiphaine Touraine "Ad Libitum," and enjoyed a fun, relaxing dinner. The menu was short, everything made to share, and we got eight of the twelve dishes (I'm counting the bread and accompaniments as one). Portions were on the small side, but no one left hungry, and the food was delicious. The bread was not free, but it was fantastic. Fresh Clark Street baguette, presumably from the bakery next door. We ordered two and added the cultured butter and chicken liver. The butter was rich, creamy, and yellow, and the liver might have been the best dish of the night. It was velvety and flavorful, finished with scallion, pickled onion, and some kind of jammy, vinegary sauce. The bluefin tuna crudo was firm and silky, served with blood orange, knob onion, and Fresno chile. The ricotta dumplings made a warm, rustic dish, soft and delicate in a dark broth with morel, English pea, shaved cacciocavallo cheese, and Madeira. We had a nice snap pea and avocado salad with tangerine, endive, and buttermilk, and two excellent vegetable dishes from the sidesy part of the menu. Fried broccolini came with green chile, honey, yogurt, and mint; grilled asparagus with pistachio, dukkah, and tahini. On the more substantial side, the rigatoni was quite good, doughy pasta with short rib, Bloomsdale spinach, Banyuls (a fortified wine), and pecorino. And the vermillion rock cod was rock solid, a beautifully cooked piece of fish served with cucumber, lime, pepita, and zhoug. We had a lovely time at this new restaurant and I'd be happy to go back, both for dinner and for the lunchtime sandwiches, which look outstanding. Henrietta is an elegant little place, well worth visiting for a leisurely night out.

We got the broccolini, squash, potatoes, and the ricotta dumplings. The flavors on everything were amazing. My favorites were the dumplings and the broccolini. Would definitely come back again. P.S if you get the dumplings, get the side of sourdough for the broth. It's worth it!

We ordered a la carte instead of the trays this time around. Their Laing topped with bonito flakes paired with steamed white rice was my favorite! The Pancit Sotanghon had a good chew. The Hiramasa Collar was still fatty and enjoyed the pickled veggies it came with. My husband enjoyed the Lucenachon and Grilled Chicken. They were tender and well seasoned! The tart from their calamansi pie was a good note to finish our dinner with. I still highly recommend!

The only reason I gave 4 stars is because the pancit was very salty. My friend noticed this also. On a positive note, I was impressed by the amount of pancit served on this plate and the abundance of vegetables When I tried the lechon kawali, OMG the skin and meat flavors, and crispy skin, made me text my cousin immediately to tell her she was right! My friend ordered a longganisa rice plate and it was perfectly sweet. The Java rice was an excellent pair with the longganisa. Service is excellent and our food came out fast. The staff who took our orders patiently answered my questions related to my dietary restrictions. We sat outside since it was full inside. Such a sign of the Kuya Lord hype and delicious food fans!
