The best experience i ever had at any DMV and let me mention on 12-23-2021 in the morning around 8:00 to 10:00 am the lady in BOOTH #2 she is the smartest and brightest DMV employee I've ever seen, I had three separate DMV related issues and she was FLAWLESS in solving all three I mean she was relentless and determined in her efforts , sorry i didn't get her name maybe someone can research the date and time and find out who she is, because of her professionalism I will recommend this location to everyone that's looking for a great DMV experience. read more

I wouldn't normally waste my time writing a review for a DMV, but I hope that someone in this office sees this, because I have an important message for one particular women who works here at the desk. I had to come to this DMV for a driving test, despite being a licensed driver in FL for the last 14 years. See, I recently bought a house here in DC and gave into the idea of finally needing to register my car here in the district. But you need a DC license to register a car in DC. Ok, fine, I'll give up my Florida ID and get a DC one. Welp, my wallet was stolen before I got a chance to make it over to the DMV to effectuate this. And as it turns out, when your wallet is stolen and you don't physically have your license to present at the DMV, the only other option accepted is a copy of your driving record. And as luck would have it, they would only accept the official record, which can only be procured in person at the court of clerks. So my options: fly to FL and get a copy of my driving record or start from scratch and get my DC learner's permit and then take the road test and get a license. I know - crazy. SO Dumb. I spent countless hours researching loopholes and other options, but came up short. So I opted for the latter option because I thought it would be easier and cheaper. I was wrong. So that brings me here, to the DMV road testing facility. I came to my appointment 15 minutes early. I had all my documents ready to go and was feeling good about making this trip easy and smooth. When my turn was called at the desk, the woman "helping me" came out swinging. Before I got a chance to say a single word, she was coming in hot, asking me in a tone saucy with attitude and presumption 'who's the licensed driver with you today?' Umm myself? Long story short, she didn't care to hear my story. She didn't care to know that I was a licensed driver in another state and because of ridiculous policies and red tape, I had to do something I'd already done 14 years earlier. She threatened to cancel my test. She called me a liar. She treated me with such disrespect and malicious intent while I was courteous and apologetic. I know in these situations you always get more bees with honey, so I was as nice as I possibly could be, despite be treated like a literal piece of shit. Not to sound juvenile, but she was being just plain mean. Unnecessarily mean. And sarcastic. And disdainful. The end of this story wraps up with me having to pay a random stranger $60 to have him be "my licensed chaperone" borrow his shitty car for the road test (which was falling apart), despite having my own car there which was, according to the woman, so unfathomable that I'd own a vehicle. The message I'd love to get across and hopefully is delivered to this woman in one way or another is that you never know what other people are going through. You never know what mental state a person is in. You never know who is on the brink, and an act of ill intent can set them over the edge. I walked out of that office so exhausted, mentally drained and despite accomplishing what I had gone there for, my mood and outlook and overall mental state for the rest of the day was really low. This woman came at me for no reason. No one expects DMV workers to be rays of sunshine, but this woman was just an over-the-top asshole. I wasn't asking for anyone to go out of their way, make any exceptions or pull strings, I just wanted to be assisted, and dare I say, treated like a human being? This woman was so miserable and made me so miserable that I had to come to Yelp to deliver this message: lady, if you don't change your attitude and the way you approach people, you will surely be that last straw for someone. Your attitude will easily set a teetering individual over the edge. I walked out of there annoyed, stressed, tired and low on energy. If someone with a chemical inbalance or who struggles with depression were to have a similar experience to my own, I would hate to think how things would go after leaving her presence. I had a perfectly fine experience taking my road test here. Despite arriving 15 minutes early, as they require, my test didn't happen until an hour after my actual appointment time. The people working inside the office are definitely disgruntled but if you come prepared, then there's no problem. Once you get here, you pull in to the parking lot by 7-11, and they have you back into a parking spot. Then, you go inside and check-in with your learners permit, drivers insurance and registration. Then you go back outside and wait for what seems like forever. Bring snacks and water, or hit up the 7-11, you have time. When they finally get to your test, first they have you check your lights, signals and horns. Then you pull out and drive around the neighborhood a bit. Nothing crazy, no parallel parking, no parking at all for that matter. The person conducting my test was very patient and nice, she was surprisingly a calming presence to have around. If you pass, you go back inside and fill out the application. It's 1 page long, takes 5 minutes if you know where you live and if you want to vote. No crazy amounts of paperwork that everyone on yelp mentioned. Then you wait another 10 minutes, pay the fee, take your photo, and leave with your temporary license. Easy peas! read more

DC DMV Road Test Office - My family getting her license - Departments of Motor Vehicles Near Me - Washington, DC, District of Columbia

I couldn't find much info online about the dc driving test, so I wanted to provide anxious drivers some information on what to expect. This location seems kinda crappy even by DMV standards. Its in a small strip mall next to a 7-11 in a small cramped area. I took my drivers test with one of the private companies, Dexterity, and used their vehicle. It was pricey at $160, but very, very convenient. The vehicle I took the test in was a new ford focus hatchback. If you use your own vehicle, you get a number, fill out paperwork and provide all the things they ask for on the website. ( it always astounds me that so many people don't have any of the paperwork they need) then wait to be called from an examiner. With the private company, I met the test provider from Dexterity in the parking lot and we proceeded inside where he gave them his info. I then took the driving test. He will tell you to get in the car and get ready to drive. You need to adjust the seat and all three mirrors and put your seatbelt on. He checked to make sure that all the lights were working on the car. we took a 10 minute ride in the neighborhood surrounding the DMV office. There were several stop signs and 2 traffic lights on the test route. It would be really helpful if you could driver around the neighborhood prior to your test. Remember to place your hands at 10 and 2 on the steering wheel, come to a complete stop at Stop signs and wait a few seconds before pulling out at a Stop sign. Follow all road signs and drive slow. He doesn't ask you any questions and there is no parallel parking test. i went inside after my test, filled out paperwork, and they called me up to have my picture taken and a few seconds later I had my license. This review is for the DC Driver License road test process, which takes place at Brentwood if you're lucky enough to get in there but begins online. This info is very important for anyone trying to obtain a DC driver's license in a limited period of time. First of all, if you're moving from out of state, don't delay as I did. Get your license converted as quickly as possible, and definitely before it's been expired for 90 days. DC makes it very easy for out-of-state drivers to obtain a local license as long as they do it within this timeframe. For those of you without cars who might be tempted to think they can sit on this, heed my tale: I needed to drive from DC to Chicago in a rented car. My Illinois license expired soon after I moved here and I didn't bother/wasn't able to get it renewed until the 90-day deadline had passed. It's still possible to get a DC license after that point, of course, but you have to start from scratch. That's right, learner's permit, road test, the works (okay, you don't need to complete 40 hours of supervised driving like a teenager). Getting the learner's permit was easy, especially since I had a DC ID card, but the road test was what screwed me or, to be more precise, scheduling the road test. I had to rent my car on May 27 and figured a month would be plenty of time to arrange the rest. I got my learner's permit on April 23 and immediately logged on to the DC DMV site to schedule my road exam. When the online reservation system displayed only one available opening in late July, I assumed there was a mistake and called the DMV hotline. No mistake, all the driving test appointments were booked solid for three months. Apparently, this is standard. DC has only one facility where it administers driving tests and it can only accomodate about a dozen per day, from the look of it. The system won't take reservations more than 90 days in advance, so the only way to get a spot at all is to sit by your computer at 8:00 AM and hit refresh until you can snatch up an appointment three months from that date. Expect them all to be filled by noon. I'm sorry, but this waiting period is absurd and unheard of to me. My only prior experience taking a licensing test was in Illinois, where there is no reservation system, you just show up, wait in line for possibly a very long time, but stand an excellent chance of taking your test that day as long as you don't show up right before closing. Instituting a reservation system makes sense too, but a 3-month backlog is ridiculous. Planning things out a month in advance should be sufficient, I didn't even know I would have to drive anywhere 3 months ago! Moreover, nowhere does the DC DMV inform the users of its services that they should expect such a long delay - you can only access scheduling information after you've already obtained your learner's permit. I understand that you should expect some delays and inefficiencies related to city services, but I've never lived in a city that functioned as poorly as Washington, DC, not even close. We had a budget surplus last year and it still takes us this long just to license our drivers. Here's an idea, use some of that cash to open up a new facility across town or at least increase capacity at the current one. And why don't you warn us somewhere that the process is so lengthy so we can plan accordingly? This city's capacity to fail so epically never ceases to amaze me. read more

What's the point of having an appointment system when you have to wait an hour just to take your test?! Got there at 11, stood in line for maybe 4-5 minutes just to get my line number. Then proceeded to wait an hour for the tester. The tester was super nice man. Had me drive around for maybe 8-10 minutes. Then pulled over to the side and the test was over. Then to turn in my application, and take my picture that was maybe another 20-25 minute wait time. Please note, if you miss your appointment they will make you pay that $30 no show fee. DC needs to open another testing center and more staff! Workers look like they hate their job, what happened to friendly service? read more

There is a waste disposal fragrance generously permeating the north exit and entrance doors that are separate. I felt nauseated after sniffing that. There is a large sign asking people to report their concerns to DC government--you can tell someone is trying to improve this place. There is also a large sign on the wall that says no profanity. The good news is that this 1205 site replaces the 1233 site it if you can find the sign despite it being placed in a position that is small print and requires a quick turn into a small shopping center upon spotting. If you enter a round-a-bout, then you have traveled too far. It seemed like there was more literature and URLs available at other DMV sites, specifically the thickest pamphlet available was a one-pager. In that while you are waiting in line, the least you could do is make some sort of driving manual available to study. Well read drivers are in the interest of the community so I believe the lack of literature is attributable to the fact the site is too new to have all its offerings refreshed. Maybe I was not counting all the examiners on the road, but while waiting, there seemed to be more security guards than driving examiners present. The staff present could be organized for better customer service. The telephone service was online Monday-Friday but not operational on Saturday. The in-person services were available Mon-Sat. The signage posted on the wall showing the new fees seemed confusing in that some of the fees took place before July 1, 2012. Also the website did not reflect the hours of telephone operation as accurately as it could have (e.g. Sat. non-operation of telephone service). If the management wanted to improve the quality of this site, it seems like it would be a good candidate worthy of some additional supervisory management attention like updating the website to reflect the hours of the telephone service. If one looks hard enough, one can see improvements over reviews of the 1233 Brentwood site in that the management have made some visible efforts to improve this. The web viewable video provides more public accountability but the public queue appears out of frame so the viewer would be wise to not necessarily conclude the absence of a line upon looking at the video which could be a little misleading. Also, I would recommend a larger sign more visible from the main street or the existing sign posted earlier so there is time to signal and turn in. The driver examiners appeared equipped with the latest in bluetooth ear pieces navy blue baseball caps, badges and canes. They have the latest in smartphone technology and amply demo smartphone models at noon outside the DMV office. With demonstrations like that, the odds of being protected from crime appeared better than the odds of getting a test. The site appeared to have more security guards than driver examiners so visitors can take comfort that they will be protected from crime while standing in line waiting for a driving test. read more

Between the new REAL ID requirements, a tiny facility and too few workers, the young lady who helped us today has an undoubtedly stressful job. Around 10:30 a.m., the building was at capacity, and they were asking people who weren't testing to step outside. However, the employee who helped us was direct, efficient and polite. Getting a minor's license in DC is tough, especially if you are transferring from another state. First step, if you're under 21, it doesn't matter if you've had a permit for a year in another state--obtain a DC permit as soon as possible because they require you to have it for six months no matter if you're 18 and have completed permit requirements elsewhere. There is a LOT of required paperwork. Check the site to make sure you have it all, or you will be coming back. So, I applaud the employees, (especially ours, today). but I wish DC would step up staffing in its only road test facility. Based on the wait for appointments--usually at least a month to two months, the demand obviously calls for an increase in both office employees and driver's test examiners. read more

Endless bureaucracy and ridiculous wait times. Went as the chaperone of a young person living with me. Despite having a 10am appt, we waited until 11:30 for the road test, then another hour for the paperwork after that. 2 and a half hours in all. Desk personnel and driving instructor were nice, security guard officious and grumpy. read more

The process was quick. I used CAS Driving School car. I went around a neighborhood. test took like 15 minutes. No parallel parking or 3 point turn is required. Only got 8 points taken off. read more

What a great DMV! The line was short. The first lady ensured we had everything necessary and sent us to window #17. The next lady organized everything and we paid. The last lady gave us what we needed and we were on our way. All three were helpful and had fantastic attitudes. The ladies room was very clean. The parking lot is tight but workable. I have no complaints. I'll have to go back in a few months and I really hope I have a similar experience. read more

I went to the dmv to get a replacement non-driver's license Id and was told my birth certificate could not be used because it was mended with tape on the back of the form, I had to go purchase a new copy. I returned the following day with new copy to find out that I needed not 1 but 2 address verification, that i don't have. I was told to give a form to the head of household which i reside and bring their copy of identification, and two bills or letters from the government that shows their current address. I did better than that, I went home came back again with one utility bill, and 2 letters from the government and the original head of household Id. Note all documents are dated with f the current month. To my surprise, I was told; that the dmv non driver license Id didn't have the apartment number on it like all the documents show. I was extra surprised when they added that the documents weren't in an envelope. Guess what was next? The head of household, has to get a new Id card with the apartment number on it. Here are my concerns: 1. Why wasn't I told all information that I need to bring at once and the way it should be presented. 2. If all the verified documents has the apartment number on it, except the dmv Id; why not issue the applicant a replacement Id anyway. 3. Why should the head of household be responsible for paying additional fee to get a simple apartment number added to his Id. Who is to say that it wasn't a typo error on dmv behalf. After all, the head of household knows his address and its evident on the other government verification of address forms. 4. Why aren't all of the employee's on one accord, it makes you question their training. This would include the supervisor whom I also spoke with. In conclusion, I am writing my councilman.
