I came to Island County ("the dump") to get rid of a carpet Grandma had when spending a few days…read morewith her. The carpet was large and we were charged a flat rate. We were able to back the car up to the dumpster area and get close enough that there was not too much wrestling to get the carpet into the dumpster. She had some other items she was thinking of getting rid of, such as paint, and when we asked about disposal we learned that oil-based and water-based paints required different disposal procedures. Learned something new on our visit. We went in the morning soon after it opened for the day and it was not too busy, the worker at the entrance where we paid the flat fee was friendly, full of insight, and eager to share what she knew to help out.

It was my first time going to a dump around in this area and they're not that easy to find but I came across this one and it is open seven days a week that accepts virtually anything before disposal. It's a little intimidating cuz it's very massive but once you're in they way your vehicle with your disposable Goods they allow you to go back into the area where you get rid of your disposables and then on the way out yeah, the way your vehicle and then they charge you the difference. I had a bunch of stuff from the house several toilets broken mirrors frames and a bunch of other stuff several hundred pounds ended up costing me 30 bucks.

With my local grocery and liquor store refusing returns because of construction, I Iugged three dozen beer bottles and some miscellaneous beverage containers to this location in order to scrounge some coffee change. I took the bottles to the counter and confessed to the guy in sweet ear muffs that it was my first time, asking how best to sort the bottles. (Hey, I'm a follow-the-rules type of gal.) To make a sweeping generalization, I was expecting a grumpy-middle-age-man reply, but instead got a friendly direction to separate out the types of containers into the red trays and leave the beer bottles in their cases. As requested, I cordoned off the containers and redeemed them for the value of a coffee and muffin. True, the floor was sticky, the air stinky, and I tried desperately not to touch anything, but at least the service was friendly. Let's focus on the positive ; )

The thing is that it is a business and it's a high end neighborhood and maybe they don't get as much business as say, DTES. I went there today (Apr 20, 2025) with a couple hundred or so bottles and cans that accumulated…read moreover the last while. I was also getting over being sick the past few days and had some errands that accumulated, so time was of the essence. When I arrived, there was only 1 cart and no trays. I grabbed the cart and wheeled it into the customer receiving/counting area but there was no one there. I waited a couple of minutes and no one came out even though I saw at least one worker eyeball me from back inside of their work area. I figured no one was coming so I decided to wheel the cart to my vehicle. I then stacked my bottles and cans as neat as I could, 12 per row. By the time I finished I was concerned that if I wheeled it to the customer service area, that the cans and bottles would tumble over into a mess. Earlier I saw that a worker came out to another customer's car and seemed to do the count there, for the same reason since that customer also didn't have any trays. I left the cart at my car and walked into the customer service area. Again, no one was there. I could see a worker or two who looked at me, however no one came out. A few literal minutes later, another customer drove in and came in through the other (north) door. Shortly thereafter a worker came out but instead of asking me if I needed help, the employee immediately asked the other person if he needed assistance. Fine, I thought, I'll wait until he was done. He mentioned something about needing a pallet but I really didn't pay attention. After he left, I expected that the worker would help me, however by this time 2 other customers came in after me, both with carts, and the employee started helping them without saying anything to me or even thinking to herself why this person had been standing in the area for the last several minutes. I realized that by the time the worker finished with the other customers and got to me, a significant amount of time would have passed and quite frankly I still had other errands to run. I calculated things out and determined it would be quicker for me to simply pack up my items and load them back into my car- which is exactly what I did. The whole time I reloaded everything back into my car, no one came out to check on me or even ask if I was stealing these items. Ironically after loading everything, I noticed that there was a scruffy looking person who arrived on a bike, who looked like he was in fact stealing bottles and cans. I was loaded up and ready to go, and given my experience was not motivated to speak up about this. Even if I wanted to, I don't think I could have gotten the attention of any employee even if I fired a flare into the sky. I'm happy to find another place to offload my items and just need to ensure that wherever I do business is not linked to this chain or mother company.

I drove here twice during the past six months to get rid of non-functional/broken appliances…read more Before discovering this place (here on Yelp, of course!) I really had no idea what to do with my old vacuum cleaner and my crockpot from the dinosaur age. Seriously, it's not easy to get rid of this kind of stuff anymore! So I was thrilled to find this place, and the whole process of unloading this kind of stuff was so easy! Finding the place is the most difficult part of the whole process; it's in an industrial area, parallel to Terminal Ave, just a few minutes away from the Science Center. Luckily, there is a sandwich-board sign by the road, marking the entrance to their huge, unpaved parking lot. Once I found the place, I pulled up to a large, opened garage door on the warehouse there, and I saw a guy loading stuff into various bins. I asked him if I could just put my stuff down by the bins and he said sure. I dumped my stuff and left. I mean, how much easier can offloading your junk be? I believe this place is open every day of the year, and the have long hours, too. Can't beat that! (Writing this, I am reminded that I have a broken NutriBullet I should bring there soon. Glad I found this place, as my condo doesn't have the storage to keep broken appliances hanging around).

BEWARE is the best advice I can offer after two experiences with TALO…read more This is what I have learned to expect from them: They will be late. On the first move, they were 3 hours late because a driver had called in sick. That can happen, and I thought it forgivable. Two years later on the second move, they were 4 hours and 40 minutes late. Again "a driver called in sick". Apologies were offered on both occasions, but that did nothing to mitigate the exhaustion experience by this senior caused by a 9-hour moving day for a 550 square foot space. They will lose something. On the first move, vacuum cleaner attachments went missing. I didn't notice this until the next day so too late to report. On the second move, two woven baskets and a 3-foot silk plant went missing. This I noticed and reported within an hour of the team leaving but I received only repeated assurances of how important my concern was and how "Our top priority as your go-to home moving company is the protection and safety of your possessions". Nice words, no action. There will be damage to something. On the first move, it was minimal. The leg of a dresser was loosened and bent and the frame of a folding table was slightly bent. On the second move, there was damage to a leg on each of two recliners, a chip out of a wooden kitchen table, and slight damage to the finish of a TV stand. Again, I was far too tired to notice these things before the team left, so too bad for me. The team will be friendly and personable. Fairness demands that I report the good as well as the negative. Justin and Jason were both very pleasant to deal with and are good ambassadors for TALO. This is the first negative review I have ever posted in any circumstance but conscience dictates that I alert unsuspecting potential clients of the pitfalls that I met with on two separate encounters with Take A Load Off Moving Ltd.
