My experience at Daystarr Motors was disappointing. The intended owner of my latest purchase was an `18 year old girl. When she found a car she liked, we noticed that the tire pressure sensor light was on. When we inquired about it, Mr Coleman told us not to worry about it as he just put 4 new tires on the car and that was a likely explanation. He told us another explanation might be that one or more of the sensors was bad. He passed this off as insignificant because tire sensors are "options" on many cars and not requirements anyway. Overlooking that for this model the tire sensors were factory installed. Based on Mr Coleman's explanation we made the assumption that the car was safe to drive off of his lot. Since we were concerned about it, rather than offer a price adjustment he told us at our expense we could go to his recommended shop that he does business with. I decided instead to have the sensor light independently checked. Turns out the sensor was on because one of the "new" tires had a small puncture wound. I understand that when buying a used car a customer should expect some defects, but regardless my minimal expectation is that the car I purchase is safe to drive off the lot. Mr Coleman's explanation about tire sensors enhanced my belief that this was a reasonable expectation plus the fact I was lead to believe that we had 4 new tires & not used retreads, one of which was defective. Based on the independent shops diagnosis, this car was not safe to drive off the lot. When my family asked Mr Coleman about this, he was critical of our decision to go to an independent shop and not go to his recommended shop. When I called Mr Coleman to tell him I was writing this review, he hung up on me. In recent developments, the battery died completely, three days after taking possession. Our mechanic said this was a battery dated September 2017, adding to my concerns about safety issues with purchasing cars from Mr Coleman, He was aware that we are writing this review and rather than show williingness to work with us. He sent us an inflammatory text further showing he is unwilling to resolve this issue. He told us we have ridiculous expectations. As I stated in this review, my "ridiculous expectation" is that the car be safe to drive for my 18-year old daughter It is possible to have a good experience buying from him but this experience was very disappointing. read more

My husband and I bought a 2004 Toyota 4Runner about a month ago from Daystarr. We worked with Clint, who was real and a nice guy, test drove the vehicle and loved it. A couple days later we went back to purchase it and I noticed that the muffler wasn't connected to the exhaust pipe. Not a huge deal since my husband has modified/upgraded multiple vehicles in the past. We bought the 4Runner, but on the way home the check engine light came on! My husband got the code read and it was a Cam Position Sensor. We called up Andy (the owner of Daystarr) and told him about it. We knew that we bought the vehicle As-Is, but it was more than frustrating that the check engine light came on 15min after we drove it off the lot. He said he would talk to his parts guy about the sensor. Honestly I figured he was just saying that to make us feel better. Two days later a Cam Position Sensor showed up at our house! We were shocked! My husband installed it and no more check engine light! Getting that sensor from Daystarr was unexpected and honestly they probably didn't HAVE to, but they did. The employees are actually friendly and easy to talk to, which honestly makes it easier to tell them exactly what your looking for and whatever your financial situation may be. When I initially went to Daystarr, I was looking for a new vehicle after my previous had been stolen, so I obviously wasn't in the best spot financially. The owner, Andy, was super friendly and very understanding when I told him my situation, that I didn't have very good credit nor did I have a lot of money to put down. I was pleasantly surprised when he told me that he could help with in house financing. They also have a lot of affordable options and its nice to see cars that you can afford but also really nice. Who knew going shopping for a vehicle could be so enjoyable? I would absolutely recommend to any of my friends and family. read more

After going in to so many smaller car lots I finally landed on Daystarr Motors in Minneapolis conveniently located off HWY 169 on Excelsior Bvd.They had a strong selection of around 70 clean vehicles and I was able to drive 5 different vehicles and they let me go by myself which I appreciated.It was very low pressure sales but Andy the owner has a tremendous knowledge of all vehicles and I was impressed.I would like to note that I did not have to ask for a Car Fax they gave me one on every car I drove which is great customer service.I picked out the vehicle that best fit me and Andy gave ne some history on that specific model which I didnt know . A girl name Shauna did the titling and paperwork in a little more than 5 minutes.She was extremely thorough and knew her job.I have had the car for quite a while now and I have had to put money into it .A new air cleaner.....$7.00 !!!!! We visited many car lots in the search for my daughters car and we needed something dependable as she is going to college in N Dakota and will be putting on high miles in the trip back and forth to the cities.She of course wanted an Acura or Lexus but the owner Andy showed her the great value in a Mazda that he had that had enough sex appeal for a 19 year old without breaking the bank for dad. I purchased a vehicle from Daystarr and they were very easy to work with. The vehicle had A LOT of miles but looked in good shape and was priced as you'd expect for a high mileage car. Andy let me take the vehicle to a nearby shop for a vehicle inspection - at my expense (there are several shops just down the road from Daystarr) where they checked over everything so I could make my decision on whether to buy the vehicle. In my case, the car was in good shape for me to move forward to purchase the vehicle. I looked at 6 different cars from different used car dealerships and Daystarr was the only one to ask me anything about what I was looking for. The first car I drove from them wasn't what I wanted but, he showed me another after asking me some questions. I test drove it, and it was pretty much exactly what we needed.
