Timothy at Daystar Plumbing is very friendly, honest, and goes out of his way to give the customer the best solution. He fixed our kitchen sink drain, installed our dishwasher air gap, and reattached the flange in our garbage disposal. The garbage disposal was not planned for this appointment, however Timothy had a myriad of parts to address the situation and repair the disposal where it was attached properly and no leaks. He even provided recommendations for how to fix other issues in my home (we had a problem with our shower). While some people I've spoken to may pay less for similar plumbing services, Timothy breaks down the reason for every cost, his professional advice was worth it, and I feel good supporting the professional services from an independent local business. My biggest fears of owning a home was that repair bills were going to be made by me instead of my landlord. Two months into home ownership I already had my redwood gate blown down by high winds, body damage to my car from falling limbs of the tree in my front yard, and fence repair due to the recent storms. So when I noticed the water getting colder and colder while showering one morning, I knew something had to be up with my water heater. "Great!" I said to myself. "Here's another $700 repair." I felt like I was just kicked in the stomach. I didn't know much about water heaters, but looked at the date of the installation and read it was installed back in 1999. I figured it was probably time to replace it. I began looking around online looking online at Lowes and Home Depot for a good deal. But it was a Saturday and I had to work, so I didn't have time to shop for this thing. I started looking for plumbers on Yelp and called a few in the area. I got no answer. Then I came across Timothy's listing. He answered his phone right away. I described the problem to him and was very empathetic. He wasn't able to come to the house right away, but he asked specific questions about the water heater and from the information I gave him he seemed to diagnose the problem. Turned out I had a bad thermocouple. He described the repair I would have to do so took his advice. Double checking how the repair would be done on online, replacing the thermocouple seemed pretty easy and it was. So I go from spending $700 to replace my water heater to spending $8 for the broken part and taking 15 minutes install it. I don't think many plumbers would take the time to give anyone free advice. Timothy is a rare, honest businessman. You can be sure if I have any plumbing issues in the future he will be the first one I call. Highly recommended. read more

Timothy came over to evaluate a gutter downspout/ drain line/outflow pipe blockage rootering situation that I faced. He carefully looked over the problem and said that it wasn't a repair that he normally addresses. He gave me the name of a trusted colleague who might be better suited for the task. Timothy then looked over two small kitchen problems. A faucet issue could be delayed because it was functional and therefore optional. I also suspected a major $$$ dishwasher repair need. He probed the symptoms and JIGGLED THE WALL PLUG FULLY INTO PLACE, enabling the appliance to then do its thing. Amazing how essential electricity actually is to the functioning of modern appliances. Timothy then explained all administrative components of working with him (pricing models, etc.). I pledged myself (swore) that he'd be the first guy I called when the need arose again. Cost me $160 for zero work. This guy is super slow and very long winded. Came over the house to diagnose three problems. After telling me he could not replace a water heater, what kind of plumber doesn't do this seemingly easy task, I showed him two other problems which he spent way too much time looking at. My time is more valuable than wasting it listening to him over explain about how hard the job would be. Then he quoted $475 to replace a faucet and strainer. I've had two wonderful professional experiences with Timothy at Daystar Plumbing. Years back he installed a new standard hot water heater for me. As happens, the hot water tank went out and very quickly he was able to install a new one. During a remodel, the standard tank was replaced with an on-demand unit. After many years, it experienced an issue and I was unable to have the company that installed it come back. I first encountered Timothy on a desperate Sunday afternoon when my father and I were trying to switch out the faucets in one of my bathrooms. What should have been a fairly straightforward home improvement project went badly awry thanks to the shoddy construction of my 80s-era condo. But that's a whole different story. After hours of collecting a not-so-slow drip in tupperware while we attempted to fix the leaking valves ourselves, I finally cried "uncle" and called Timothy, based on the other Yelp reviews I read. He's the first plumber I've ever called-- I grew up in a do-it-yourself type family. Let me tell you, I'm sold on not doing it myself anymore! I reached Timothy's sympathetic and helpful wife who had him call me within 10 minutes. Despite it being a Sunday (and an uncharacteristically beautiful and warm Pacifica day to boot), Timothy came right over. Once he arrived, he immediately took charge of the situation, and I knew we were in very good hands. Timothy was able to replace the leaking valve and get the faucet installed. Then he helped diagnose a problem with a shower head we were having trouble with, and he had just the right obscure part in his van to fix that up as well. And all the while, he had my father following him around talking to him about what he was doing and asking questions. My overall experience with Timothy was that he was clean, knowledgeable, efficient, responsible and responsive, very respectful and courteous, and also patient. He'll talk to you about what he's doing as much as you want to know-- or as little, if you are not interested! We had to call Timothy back two days later when the valve broke on the second sink install. This time, there was no leaking and no hours of trying to fix it ourselves. As soon as I saw we were going to have a problem, I just called Timothy. He made time in his schedule to accommodate me the same day, and my experience with him was much the same as before. From now on, any plumbing issue will be Timothy's to solve! What a relief! As far as price, I really can't say anything much about it because I don't have comparative experience. My feeling about him is that he's a person of integrity, and so I trust that his prices are fair. He's also very detailed in explaining how the price is being assessed. I contacted Daystar Plumbing regarding installation of a waterline for an ice maker. Timothy talked me through what needed to be done and let me text pictures of the plumbing that would need to be navigated. He helped me realize that it didn't make sense for me to pay to have this done. Additionally, it wasn't a good idea for me to do this myself. Our complicated, electric Kohler toilet ceased functioning. And since I had watched it being installed 3 or 4 years ago, I knew this wasn't an ordinary plumbing job. So we went directly to Kohler to get a recommendation for a local plumber. Timothy at DayStar was one of two in the Bay Area. Turns out he had worked on a few of these toilets before. We made an appointment and he was right on time. And he had spoken to the tech people at Kohler before arriving, to ensure we were on the right track and would have the right parts in hand. I assisted with the repair from time to time, as the toilet is rather heavy and needs to be re-installed gently and accurately. Timothy replaced the faulty shut-off valve pretty quickly. Problem solved! But then we ran into trouble re-installing the main toilet piece onto the base - no fault of his; it was a problem that existed from when it was first installed. Another call to Kohler tech, and another problem solved (and it's quieter than before too). A careful, thoughtful, and interesting guy. We're pleased. PS - If you only have one bathroom in your house/apartment (fortunately, we have two), I'd suggest thinking twice about an electric toilet. If it breaks or you have a power failure, guess what, it gets very inconvenient very soon. read more

We had an emergency toilet malfunction at out rental in Pacifica and we went to YELP for a local referral. The reviews for Daystar were great, so without much research, I called at 9:15 P.M. on a Sunday night. Timothy answered the phone and was setting up an appointment for the following day, when our renters called with new information about the nature of the toilet failure. I handed the phone to my husband and Timothy spent a considerable amount of time with him giving him helpful advice, and referrals for our problem. We have used Tim/Daystar plumbing for multiple jobs. Here's why: he's honest, CLEAN--yes, a CLEAN plumber, and the work never needs to be re-done. He's not the cheapest, but you can count on getting the work done once and correctly. Tim is prompt to answer/return calls, and if he can't do your job, he'll let you know--won't string you along. We called Tim once on Thanksgiving day, and although he couldn't do the work, he was able to assess--he had my husband put the phone inside the toilet bowl as he flushed it, and just by the sound, Tim could tell it was a whole-house clog. I'm not kidding. We called another service, and they came out and said the same thing--at least we were confident that they weren't ripping us off on TG Day. Timothy was really, really great. I was having issues with my water heater, and I called him up on a sunday evening. He was having 10 people over for dinner, BUT he still took time to explain to me what my potential issues were AND how to ensure we didn't have any problems until he could come in the next morning. We came and diagnosed the issue fairly quickly. He told me that there was a chance that the water company might fix it, although they usually don't. BUT, I should call them up and then call him only if I needed him. I called the water company and they agreed to fix it, so I wouldn't need Timothys services (this time). BUT, he took the time to explain the issue, as well as a few other odds and ends type questions that I had. AND, I mentioned something in passing and he showed up later in the day with a fix for that (AND, it wasn't even related to my plumbing).
